Destined by One Night: The CEO's Pursuit

Chapter 14

Ch. 14 / 281 Apr 07, 2026

The reason why she wanted to stay in Fielddell was not only to take revenge but also to find out her own background and her biological parents.

But Roland had a bright future ahead of him. He shouldn't waste time with her.

As Marilyn was lost in thought when she looked at the phone, Malcolm also had a bad mood all of a sudden.

He frowned slightly as he didn't like the way she looked.

He looked up and saw that they had arrived at Vogue Plaza.

The flickering rainbow lights fully showed that the Vogue Plaza was as lively as ever.

At the entrance to the parking lot, Marilyn and Malcolm got out of the car, leaving Sergio alone for parking.

Marilyn walked along with Malcolm.

All the way, she followed behind him quietly.

The party was held in a high-class restaurant.

They got into a private room together.

All the department directors had already arrived. They all happily greeted Marilyn when they saw her come in!

They had already known about Marilyn's personnel transfer.

Moreover, Marilyn's autumn works had passed in one go.

She was very remarkable in their eyes.

Therefore, when it came to introducing themselves, those department directors were very proactive. They wanted to be familiar with Marilyn.

Of course, there were also people who disliked Marilyn.

For example, Melissa Templeton from the marketing department, a good-looking girl with heavy makeup as well as arrogance on her face. The fitted red dress on her perfectly outlined her enchanting curves.

Her gaze was not on Marilyn but on Malcolm.

The marketing manager was a woman in her thirties.

She was a beautiful woman with mature charm. Her name was Candice Byrd, and she kept praising Marilyn.

Marilyn was even a little ill at ease by her constant praise.

After Malcolm greeted everyone, he sat at the side with an expressionless face.

It was just that his deep gaze would occasionally land on Marilyn's smiling face.

Sergio and Julian also came.

Soon everyone got seated respectively.

"Congratulations, Ms. Chapman!" Malcolm raised the glass of red wine in his hand and toasted Marilyn.

"Thank you, Mr. Lowe!" Marilyn smiled.

"Congratulations, Ms. Chapman. Cheers!" Candice shouted.

After the toasting, they sat down for food.

Marilyn couldn't help but feel a mix of emotions at the look at the sumptuous dinner in front of her. It had been seven years! She missed the taste of food in Fielddell a lot!

Fielddell was a place that had a lot of famous delicacies!

With the relaxed atmosphere, Marilyn was in a much better mood.

"Ms. Chapman, you have been living in Goldmere for a long time. But as to delicacies, those in Goldmere were no match for the ones in Fielddell! You should try the food in Fielddell! It is very authentic, especially this restaurant. It is the first choice of our gathering. While I must say that the air in Goldmere is better. Look at your skin. It is so tender!" Candice looked at Marilyn in envy.

The air in Fielddell was dry and thus their skin was somewhat rough.

Marilyn smiled, her eyes as clear as water. She said to Candice, "Candice, you can call me Marilyn! I like the food in Fielddell."

"Great! Marilyn, I'd love to. Just have a try on the food!" Candice smiled even more happily!

She even added some food to Marilyn's plate. To newcomers, she was the friendliest person Marilyn had ever met.

Everyone was chatting and eating pleasantly with each other.

Julian took the opportunity to ask, "Ms. Chapman, where do you live in Goldmere? I am quite familiar with Goldmere."

People were just chatting casually, so even if he asked, Marilyn would not take it as a suspicious question.

Marilyn's eyes wandered towards Julian. She wondered why he suddenly asked for her address.

To avoid being found by the Chamberses, she had always rented houses with Roland's name.

She looked at Julian and replied with a smile, "I live in a friend's house."

When Julian heard this, he suddenly understood why he could not find anything.

But after a second thought, he felt that something was wrong. There seemed to be someone stopping him from investigating Marilyn. He and Sergio were both computer experts. It was impossible for them not to find any clues. But a program had always been attacking him when he was investigating.

Malcolm also slightly paused when he heard her words. He picked up the wine cup on the side and drank it.

When Marilyn saw this, she frowned slightly. She thought, "Why is he drinking wine? He should take good care of himself!

He still has stitches on his forehead!"

Melissa noticed all these.

She slightly gritted her teeth as she glanced at Marilyn. To Melissa, she was the only one who could attract the attention of Malcolm.

She reached out to pick up the wine glass and "accidentally" knocked it over. Most of the red wine was poured on Marilyn's white shirt.

She pretended to feel guilty and shouted, "Oh, my god! Ms. Chapman, I'm sorry! I didn't mean to."

Marilyn's white shirt was dyed red and the shape of her white underwear was vaguely revealed.

Malcolm immediately threw a sharp glance at Melissa. Every time Melissa attended a gathering, there would be problems.

He frowned slightly as he saw the way Marilyn looked.

Just as he got up, the door was suddenly pushed open from outside.

The people who came in were Velma and her elder brother, Darren Remington.

When Malcolm saw them, his eyes were filled with coldness.

Why were they here?

Seeing Velma, Marilyn suddenly remembered what she had come for in the morning.

Tonight, their families were going to discuss Velma and Malcolm's wedding, but Malcolm was here.

So Velma came for him!

Marilyn felt a little guilty at the thought of that.

"Malcolm, I didn't expect you to see you here." Velma smiled gently, just as perfect as when Marilyn first saw her in the morning.

The expression in Velma's eyes was painful as she gazed at Malcolm. Instead of coming to the Remington's, he had actually joined the entry celebration for a new employee!

To him, was she inferior to this new employee?

The gathering between the two families was also ruined.

Since she became one of the Remingtons, Debbie had told her that if Carolyn could not be found, she would be the one to marry Malcolm. The two families were long-time friends. She was adopted to maintain the business connections with the Lowe family.

Now that she had grown up and understood everything, she had deeply fallen for Malcolm.

He was cold but at the same time unique. His calm and aloof temperament made him even more attractive.

Now she only hoped that the so-called biological daughter of the Remington family had died.

She had totally fallen for Malcolm!

"Malcolm!" Darren greeted him with a smile.

"Hi!" Malcolm nodded indifferently.

Darren teased, "Velma said that you didn't have time tonight. Since you don't even have time to talk about the wedding, I didn't expect to see you here."

It seemed that Darren was blaming Malcolm.

The entire private room instantly quieted down. The atmosphere became very oppressive!
