Mira's POV
" Are you sure we are dressed right? "
I looked at myself in the mirror and at Razzak beside me. We had harem pants on with crop tops and oxidized jewelleries, with a cap and mask on. We looked like hippies.
" Absolutely. Let's go. "
She adjusted the dark eyeliner she had applied on me. This was nothing like how I dressed but I did think it was cool.
The street party was just a couple of blocks away from the school. We decided to walk there because why should we waste money hiring a cab.
The music was so loud, it could be heard several miles away. The bass made the road thump and we couldn't wait to see what else was happening there.
I had too much on my mind.
Let me give you a quick recap of that morning.
When my phone rang, I was sure it was Xen who had called back.
I didn't want to but I answered.
" Hello! I am so sorry. It was an unintentional missed call. "
" Unintentional missed call? Why, I didn't get any! "
The voice on the other side was that of Braze's.
I immediately sat up.
" Oh, it's you Braze. I'm sorry. "
" Why are you sorry? Whom were you expecting? "
came his voice from the other side.
" Oh, well nobody! "
I was about to hit my head with my free hand, but my hand stopped mid air when he said,
" I saw you with Xen last night. "
I almost dropped my phone.
How did he see me in the middle of nowhere? This dream was quickly turning nightmarish.
" Well, no! How! I mean impossible... I was here all night Razzak, wasn't I? "
Razzak turned at me with a start. She frowned at me with confused eyes, questioning my decision of pulling her in this.
I didn't even know why I was explaining it to Braze. What were we? Wasn't it all over?
" Oh, I'm sorry. Good Morning Mira. I couldn't sleep well last night... Will you go to the party tonight? "
He asked, changing the subject.
" I don't know. I don't feel like it. "
I wasn't lying when I said that.
But as soon as the afternoon turned into evening, there was itch inside me when I saw everyone dressing up and leaving. I knew I had to go when Razzak was getting ready.
And just like that we were there, in the middle of the neon lights.
The street was so loud and bright, I could feel my feet starting to tap and my hips swaying to its rhythm.
Everything was fading away from my mind as the sight of the colorful street full of posters and signs flooded my sight.
The street was no longer a street; it was literally a giant club.
" Mira, look at the food stalls. Gosh, I'm so hungry. Let's get something for ourselves. "
I couldn't agree more.
There were too many options but we decided to start with the fried chicken and baked ice cream cone.
" , delicious. Mira it's so good. They don't make it like this back home. Yummmmmm! "
Razzak was squeezing my arms so hard it hurt .
" Will the payment be in cash or card please? "
the friendly looking counter girl asked.
It was at this moment that we both realized we had forgotten our purse. We stopped chewing the food in our mouth and looked at the half eaten ones still in our hands.
We were definitely internally screaming but didn't know how to react. Razzak looked at me , biting her lips and I was about to pull my cap and bury my face down.
" It will be a card please. And I would like one serving as well. "
We both looked up. It was Xen. We had been saved from public humiliation.
" God, Almighty bless you! "
Razzak almost broke down trying to give him a hug.
He smiled but moved back.
It was at this moment that our eyes met.
We looked at each other for seconds and then looked away at once.
I was yet to understand what had happened that night but the kiss was vivid and raw. It didn't need any explanation.
" Mira! Razzak! When did you guys come! "
It was Kian and his gang getting out of the car and waving at us. That despicable Betty was stuck to his side as well.
Xen suddenly grabbed my hand.
" Mira, I want to talk. " Xen demanded my attention.
But I shamelessly pulled my hand away from his grip and ran towards Kian.
It was probably to get away from him. I knew I didn't want to have this conversation, not at this moment. I was there to get my head off everything and just enjoy.
" She's a bit of a crackhead, you know! "
I could hear Razzak trying to explain.
" When did you all come? You should have called me. I would have picked you up! "
Kian began, " Oh, right! You don't have my number. Here, let me feed it to your cell! "
And at this moment I realized, nothing was ever going to be normal.
Right there on my dialed call list was Xen's number, followed by Braze's incoming call and then I had Kian dialing his own number from my phone. All back to back, what a coincidence.
" Mira, you have a call. "
Kian returned my phone and I saw it was my mother.
Why was she calling me at this time? She usually called in the morning or late at night.
" Hello, Mamma, what's up? "
I yelled through the speaker because the music was just getting too loud.
" Where are you Mira? Are you alright? "
Her voice was very tense and worried, so I started walking away from the party, to hear what she was saying.
" What happened Mamma? Why are you so worried? I am at a party with my friends. What's wrong? "
But I couldn't say she was hyperventilating.
" Mira, there... there was an attack. I don't know if they are back... Mira, you must be careful baby. Do you understand? "
" Attack? What attack? Mamma, careful of what? You are not making any sense... Mamma! "
The connection was terrible and I didn't realize I had walked towards a bushy area with lots of plants.
I was trying to call her back because the connection was severed when suddenly a pair was shining, yellow eyes approached towards me from the bushes.
I was about to yell because it definitely felt like it belonged to a wild feline or canine but to my utter surprise, Braze came out of there on all four limbs, just like a dog or wolf would and jumped right on top of me.
