Amy turned fearfully at the sound of the voice and when she saw Brett, she heaved a sigh of relief. Brett had intentionally mimicked Broderick's voice.
"You scared me," Any said as she tried to catch her breath.
Brett shrugged and chuckled, "I would have reported you to Broderick if not for Jane."
"Jane? My personal assistant? How about her?" Amy wondered why Jane was the reason why he didn't want to report her disobedience to Broderick
"Forget it, let's go home," Brett said and began to walk alongside Nolan.
"I need to see Nolan and tell him that I'm going," she said.
"You can just call him, remember that it will be too dangerous for Broderick to find out you are outside of the house?" Brett reminded her.
Before Amy could place a call across to Nolan, he appeared behind her and called, "Amy?"
Amy turned to him and said," thank you so much, Nolan. I'm glad the truth has finally come to light."
"You are welcome. I guess Brett is taking you home?"
"That's right, I need to go back home before Broderick finds out," Amy said and he nodded.
"Will you call you later," Nolan said and walked away.
In a jiffy, Amy and Brett were both inside the car.
A few seconds after the car had started moving, Amy place a call across to Irvin and he answered, "Irvin, guess what?"
"Tell me?" Irvin demanded impatiently.
"All thanks to Nolan. He has helped us reveal the truth of the fact that Callan is our father. Our father now beleived us to be his biological son and daughter," Amy said happily.
"I know the truth will be out someday. That man has never really played his role over us as our father. I only know him as my father but will never regard him as one," Irvin said.
Amy understood Irvin very well. Their father had wronged them so bad that it will take them a lot of energy to forgive him.
"I understand. Take care, brother!"
"You too."
Amy then hung the call up, he turned to Brett's side profile and suddenly smiled when an idea popped up on her mind," see who has a crush on my persony assistant."
Brett coughed instinctively and almost looked away but because he was driving, he had to concentrate. "I don't know what you are talking about."
"Is that why you are blushing?" Amy asked Brett.
Brett hated the fact that Amy saw him blushing. He wanted to bury himself alive but he had to drive her home first.
"Amy, how is Debby?" He quickly had to change the topic.
Amy smirked and said," she's fine." She then turned to the window and kept looking through the window until the car eventually pulled over at the garage of the house.
Amy and Brett stepped down, "thanks for not snitching on me, Brett?"
"You are welcome," Brett smiled at her and Amy walked inside the house.
When it was the following day, after the kids had already gone to school, Amy laid on the sofa in the living room, relaxing. She would consider this period as though she was on a work leave. Perhaps, after the one month of punishment, she can go back to work.
While playing a cooking game on her phone, a knock could be heard on the door.
Could that be Broderick? She thought to herself and stood. She walked towards the door and opened it only to see Martha.
She frowned and asked," what are you doing here? The kids aren't even here."
"I know that," Martha said and smuggled her way inside.
Amy then followed and watched her keenly. Who knows what the bitch is up to now?
Martha turned to her with an angry face and pointed to her," you!"
"You eventually let the mayor find out the truth and now my mother has been kicked out of the Owen's mansion," Martha said angrily.
Amy smirked," so then what? Your mother deserved more punishment and don't think I'm done with her. Your mother killed my mother, I can never forgive her. Now that she doesn't have the backing of the mayor anymore, it will be easy for me to deal with her."
Martha smirked, "you have no idea."
"That?"
"We are not interested in your father, we are interested in his power and money."
"So what?"
Martha went to sit majestically and said," I suggest you find out what is going on with your father."
Amy's heart skipped when she heard this, she immediately dialed Irvin's number but he did not answer the call. That made her even more worried.
She said to Martha," If anything happens to my father, you and your mother will pay heavily for it."
Just as Any finished speaking, a call came through to her phone and seeing that it was Irvin, she answered immediately," hey Irvin."
"Sorry, I missed your call. I was in the toilet."
"Got it. Did you here any news from dad?"
"Not at all. Is anything wrong?" Irvin asked.
"I can't say yet but please try to reach out to him to be sure he's fine."
"Alright," Irvin said and hung the call up.
"You and your brother must be living in the back of world for the both of you not to know what has happened to the mayor of the city," Martha said.
Amy's heart became very troubled, she sat and immediately browsed about her father, the first page on Google had said that the mayor had an accident that made the doctor declare him to be paralyzed.
"What!" Amy screamed. It was at this moment that Irvin's call came through," dad had an accident and I think it's a serious one, I'm heading to the Owen's mansion now, join me there as soon as you can."
"Got it," Any immediately stood and ran out, ignoring Martha.
She pleaded with the head of guard again," please, I'll need your help again. My father is almost dieing and I need to see him."
Seeing that this was a matter of life and death, the head of guard dared not to refuse her.
Amy got inside the car and drove out immediately. She drove speedily and after a couple of minutes, she arrived at the Owen's mansion.
She saw Irvin running inside the house, apparently, he had just arrived too. She stepped out of her car and ran inside too.
Amy and Irvin saw Carlton paralyzed to a wheel chair, his mouth had shifted to a side and saliva was drooling on its own, his head was also bending and his right hand was curved.
"Is this an accident or stroke?" Irvin was confused.
"I don't know," Amy had already started crying seeing her father in this position. Although she had said that she will never forgive her father, that doesn't imply that she doesn't like her father. Infact, she hoped that after she had eventually forgave him in the future, she and her brother can enjoy the love that they had been starved off for many years.
Irvin placed a call across to a doctor and told him to come quick. While waiting for the doctor, both Amy and Irvin sat quietly in the house. It was obvious that there was not a single person in the house.
Amy just kept sobbing quietly while Irvin watched his father with a sad look.
The doctor soon arrived and Irvin told him to examine what really happened to his father. The doctor took his time to examine Carlton and said," though I will have to take his blood to the laboratory to confirm but if I'm to judge what is wrong with him by reason of my vast experience in the medical field, then I can tell you that he's poisoned."
"Poisoned?" Amy screamed.
"Yes, his blood is becoming dark... As you can see," the man showed them the blood that he extracted out of Carlton.
Irvin lowered his head sadly and clenched his fist hard," who could have done this to my father?"
"You can leave," Irvin said to the doctor and he walked away.
"It must be Edith, Martha's mother. Martha came to my place a few minutes ago to ask if I've heard what happened to my father, that was why I called you. It seems that Edith poisoned him after he had sent her away from the mansion."
"These people literally doesn't have a heart," Irvin said with grossly pained heart.
"Edith killed our mother too and even set her up as a cheater, and now, she's killing our father," just as Amy finished speaking, Carlton dropped from the chair and fell to the ground all of a sudden
Amy and Irvin rallied around him to help him but his body had already grown cold, his eyes were closed and he had stopped breathing.
Both children paused when they realized this and looked into eachother's face, it was as if the world stood still.
Amy stood and ran away from the living room, she ran inside the room that used to belong to her mother and shut the door hard, she stripped herself naked and laid on the ground, crying so hard.
"Has life decided to torture me alone? Why has my life been full of pains and pains only?" She cried..."At an early age, I lost my mother and even now, when the truth about my identity is revealed to my father, he got killed." Amy thought as she sobbed. Her heart felt like it was being stabbed with a sharp knife.
Irvin carried his father's head and let his tears drop on his cold face, "father! Father!" He cried and shut his eyes tightly. Pain was surging through his bones and marrows. His body was literally shivering as if he was subjected to a minus hundred degree Celsius cold."
He cried so hard for hours, he eventually stood from the dead body of his father and walked towards the wall, he leaned his back on it and from there, he watched the dead body of his father with a devastating heart.
While his heart was hurting, he swore to take revenge on Edith and Martha.
The door flinged open all of a sudden and Broderick appeared, he walked towards Irvin with an hard look and said," were you the one who took Amy away from where I told her to be?"Broderick has been informed by Martha that Amy had left the house he told her not to leave. Martha also told him where Amy went. She had done that purposely so that Broderick can deal mercilessly with Amy.
Instead of answering him, Irvin lowered his head sadly. The thought of his father's death occupied his mind that he could barely breath.
"Are you deaf?" Broderick already felt like crumbling him.
"Can't you see that my father is dead?" Irvin bursted out angrily. It was the first time he would be raising his voice at Broderick.
Broderick sincerely had not noticed any dead body, he just walked inside angrily and walked straight to Irvin. He turned from Irvin and looked around the house, when his eyes fell on the mayor laying dead, his heart constricted and he walked slowly towards the dead body.
He turned back to Irvin and asked," what killed him?"
"What? The question should be who killed him," Irvin responded.
"Who did?"
"Your wife's mother," Irvin responded.
"Edith? That's not possible. Aren't they couples? Why would she want to kill her husband?" Broderick asked.
"They stopped being couple after my father find out the truth that Edith had been hiding. My father already find out that Amy and I are his children, this happened yesterday with the help of a DNA test," Irvin said. "When Edith finds out the truth is revealed, she did this to my father."
"Where is Amy?"
"Inside one of the rooms," Irvin responded and Broderick took one more glance at the dead body on the floor then walked towards the rooms in the house. He kept opening the doors in the house until he got before the door he couldn't open. He twisted the knob severally but the door won't open.
He knocked on it but got no response, he knocked severally but got no response still. Could Amy be inside? He thought to himself.
"Amy!" He called but got no response.
"Amy!" He called again but got no response still.
Amy was inside the room and heard Broderick's call but she was too weak to respond. Also, she wasn't ready to face his trouble cause she knew she had disobeyed him.
She dressed up and sat and kept listening to the knock on the door. When the knock came in persistently, she had to stand and walked towards the door.
She heaved a heavy sigh before twisting the knob of the door after which Broderick appeared before her.
"My father was the reason why I left the house, I.."
"It's okay," Broderick interrupted and walked inside, he held her hand and pulled her to himself," I'm so sorry for the loss of your father."
Amy didn't have tears left to shed, she just looked blankly at him and nodded, "thank you, Broderick."
Broderick lead her to the bed and made her sit, while sitting beside her, he said gently and tenderly to her," you look very weak."
"I have never enjoyed the love of my father, I've lived a life devoid of love all my life. I thought that after my father finds out the truth about myself and my brother being his children, we would start to enjoy his love but he was killed," Amy lamented with a sorrowful heart.
"He was killed? I thought it was an accident?" Broderick asked.
"It wasn't. Edith poisoned him. According to the doctor, his blood was poisoned," Amy said.
"Edith? Martha's mother, why would she do that?" Broderick asked curiously.
"Don't worry about it," Amy said. Amy beleived that even if she explains the reasons behind Edith's act, he may not believe her cause he trusted Martha, Edith's daughter than her.
"I want to know." He demanded.
"I can fight the battle myself, don't worry. All those who killed my mother and my father will pay," Amy meant every single word she said. She will never let Edith and Theresa go unpunished.
Edith killed her parents while Martha stole her kids from her, how can she keep on living without causing them pain? She would inflict so much pain upon them that they will beg for death. Enough is enough of bullying her, it's time for her to fight back
After a few seconds of silence between the two adults, Amy spoke," I'm sorry for leaving the house."
"I understand why you left, you can spend some time with your brother and come back, remember the kids needs you?" Broderick asked as he stood.
"I'll come home this night. I need my kids too," Amy said. She was totally exhausted.
Broderick walked towards the door and when he got before the door, he paused and turned to her, he felt a heavy burden in his heart seeing Amy in pain, he wished earnestly that he could do something to ease her sorrow, "is there something I can do to ease your pain?"
"Divorce Martha," Amy said. She didn't even think twice about before responding to Broderick's question. As long as Martha is the wife of Broderick, it will be impossible for her to deal with her.
"She is the mother of..."
"I know that she's claiming to be the mother of your kids but the kids never like her, they like me. Anyways, I'm just stating my request," Amy said and looked away.
Sincerely, if Broderick can really divorce Martha, she would feel relieved but can he? Unless she can prove that the kids are not for Martha, Broderick won't be able to divorce her.
"I'll divorce her," Broderick declared.
