Standing behind the heavy metal door, a thick wooden candlestick was held in quivering hands high above Selena's head as she attempted to quiet her deep, shuddering breaths. There was only one thing she could do: get away from him. She, therefore, waited anxiously behind the door while the sky grew darker. He hadn't come to her all day. Nancy had informed her that Natasha and Cayden would attend a meeting in the city. Nancy's plan was for them to meet in the woods and run off together because Selena couldn't turn with her collar and it was too risky for them to leave the mansion together.
She swiftly reached into her new wardrobe, pulled out a long-sleeved white shirt, and put it on while reaching for a pair of trousers while checking her back many times to make sure no one was approaching.
She had to leave right away! She raced as stealthily as she could toward the direction of the balcony windows, forgetting her shoes. She swallowed as she turned to face the manor house, which had three stories overall—four if you count this room. But before she hurried back and descended the ledge through the window, she didn't have time to stop and consider her options.
Selena rolled to the ground after falling out of the window. She appeared to have just leaped a foot in the air because of the shock. She was fortunate that her physique was still as tough as a wolf's.
Before standing up and moving toward the compound's entrance, she quickly scanned the area for more wolves. She shifted to the side of a building while she kept her breathing even and quiet when she barely heard crunching across the grass. She turned her head to the side and noticed 5 Omegas carrying supplies for their daily tasks. She wasted little time continuing gently low against the building, waving between structures until she reached the exit as they passed her without so much as a glance.
The morning star was visible and dazzling in the mild, misty blue and pale orange sky, giving the impression that dawn was just beginning. How much sleep did she get?
She shook the idea out of her head and carried on running, trying not to be seen by the other wolves. She puffed hard through her nose as she ran barefoot through the chilly dawn till she reached the gates. She gasped as she looked around and stared up at the enormous steel bars. She had never scaled a fence this high.
Nancy muttered next to her, "There might....be another way around. Maybe a hole...?"
Selena sprang to attention and turned to face a beaming Nancy.
"Gosh! I almost had a heart attack because of you."
"I'm happy that you made it. Come on, we're running out of time."
They stared at the large gate. It wasn't the main entrance, which was always manned by security. One of the lonely gates that led into the dense forest was this one. It had not been used for a long time since the appearance of the rusted locks.
"Cayden is not a fool. There would almost certainly be no security problems in their system, and even if there were, we don't have time to find them." Stated Selena.
"So we will jump the gate, right?" Nancy enquired imploringly.
"We'd have to try."
"But Selena, how are you going to shift?" Nancy said hysterically.
"That's why it was said I can't run," Selena sputtered. "You must leave, Nancy."
"I am not going alone; I'll carry you," Nancy said with a stern expression.
"What!" Although Selena was moved by her gesture, she was aware of her limitations.
"Nancy, you are an omega. You would have a difficult time jumping the gate. You and I won't be able to make it."
Nancy gave a headshake. "Cayden or his men would be here any second, so we don't have much time. We must leave."
Nancy became a tiny brown wolf before Selena could object. The young wolf approached Selena and placed her muzzle in her hand, almost pleading to be petted. Selena yearned for her wolf and pondered whether she would ever shift once more.
She could do nothing except go for it. She grabbed onto Nancy as she retreated a few steps and took a few long breaths before sprinting as quickly as she could toward the gate. When the fence's blade nicked Selena's left leg, the left pant leg tore slightly and allowed blood to trickle through it, but she landed on the other side and fell to the ground. Selena struggled against the friction of the frosty morning air as they leaped. She choked back a grunt as she winced in pain.
"RUN!" As she and Nancy sprinted into the woods, Selena shouted. Selena didn't waste any time basking in the sun's warmth on her bare skin or the sensation of freedom; instead, she dashes into the woods near the house, knowing that if she made it there, everything will be over and the nightmare would be finished.
Selena finally made it to the edge of the dense trees with all the speed she could generate from her legs. She continued moving forwards despite the agony in her legs and the lack of breath from her flight. Now that she was free, nothing could hold her back. As she trekked into the woodland, her senses were alert for any sign that she was being pursued. The soft mud crunched beneath her feet and rose between her toes.
Selena slowly made her way to an enormous tree after a little while, satisfied with how far she had made it in the woods. The rough bark rubbed against her back as she rested her body against the hardwood. However, she didn't let that bother her as she let her body go down the tree, lying back against it to unwind and take a quick breather. Nancy, the brown wolf, changed back into a woman.
Nancy grinned, "We made it."
Selena said, "I am tired," but she couldn't stop smiling as she spoke.
"It's fine. You may take an abrupt break. The freeway is where Zac would meet us after we get there. He must stay away from the pack's domain."
Selena said, "Okay."
But in an instant, all of their joy and contentment vanished. Selena's hair sprang on end and her eyes were as wide as saucers when she listened to the distant whining and scream of motorised dirt bikers.
Her mind was instantly taken over by a flurry of emotions, including a real, visceral, and unrelenting fear. As the motorbikes' whining got gradually closer. It served as a stark reminder that she was not yet secure.
"We must run," Nancy exclaimed in a panic.
"Nancy, take my advice. Without me, your wolf would move more quickly. Don't wait for me; just run. I'll try to stick with you."
"I can't leave you behind, Selena."
"Do you want to get Zac killed?" Selena asked in desperation.
Nancy's eyes grew larger.
"Cayden wouldn't leave Zac alone if you get captured. Go, Nancy. I'll meet you on the freeway. Don't wait for me if I don't arrive."
Nancy had tears in her eyes. She hugged Selena while nodding. Nancy reverted to her brown wolf form and dashed for the freeway.
