Alpha King of Ruin and Desire

Chapter 14

Ch. 14 / 150 Dec 30, 2025

Amelia’s world, only moments ago filled with the blinding euphoria of Kian’s touch and claim, was now reduced to the sterile horror of the bunker floor. The pain that tore through Kian was not a reflection; it was a punishment, the catastrophic price of cheating fate.

“Lykos, get that emergency anti-seizure gel—now! Rune, secure the area and prep the high-frequency modulator!” Amelia’s voice was sharp, cutting through the heavy air. She was the strategist again, but her hands trembled as she forced herself to work over Kian’s convulsing body.

Kian’s body was a terrifying canvas of agony. Veins stood out like dark cords, and a primal, distorted howl tore from his throat—a sound unlike his usual Alpha roar, filled instead with the anguish of his entire cursed lineage.

Lykos returned instantly with the medical kit. Amelia worked with the cold precision of someone who had long studied this inevitable outcome. She administered the counter-agents, relying on Rune and Lykos to hold Kian steady during the worst of the tremors. After what felt like an eternity, the convulsions subsided, leaving Kian limp and unconscious, his breathing shallow but steady. The gold was gone, replaced by a devastating pallor.

Amelia sank back on her heels, physically exhausted and emotionally hollowed out. She was safe; the claim had not killed her. But her mate was broken on the ground, and the silence now felt like a shroud.

Rune knelt beside them, checking Kian’s pulse. “He’s stabilized. His recovery will be brutal, Luna. It was amplified, just as you predicted.”

“But the curse didn’t reflect,” Amelia murmured, her gaze tracing the clean, unmarred skin of her own hands. “I felt his essence, his pain, but no reflected injury. The claim… the bonding itself must have created a baseline protection for the True Mate.”

Amelia forced herself to inspect the tiny, pale puncture wound on Kian’s arm where Rune had injected the solution. The curse was a binding force, but the mate bond was stronger. She was his Queen, and her first duty was to save the crown he nearly died for.

Lykos, who had returned to his perimeter duty, spoke into his comms. “Luna. We have confirmation. Zoran Vane’s security network is currently in total disarray. The official Royal Ledger has recorded an Active and Consummated True Mate Claim. There is a massive public response already building. The prophecy is now officially verified by the highest legal authority.”

Amelia stood up, shaking off the trauma. Kian had paid the price, but they had won the moment.

“Then the payment was worth it,” Amelia declared, the Queen’s steel instantly returning to her spine. She looked at Kian's prone figure, a rush of fierce possessiveness flooding her. He was hers. They were bound.

“Rune, get the King to the medical suite immediately. Lykos, send out the official press release on all channels,” she commanded. “Title it: ‘The Curse is Broken, The King Returns.’ And add this line: ‘To solidify the political alliance and honor the True Mate bond, Alpha King Kian Sterling and Luna Amelia Thorne will be bound in a public wedding ceremony within the week.’”

Rune looked shocked. “Within the week, Luna? That’s impossible. And the King is unconscious.”

"Impossible is a term used by the Crescent Bloc. I know that Alpha King is strong. He will run within the next three days," Amelia retorted, not softening her tone. Lykos, usually stoic, hesitated before accepting the command. He understood the urgency, but a public wedding at the Nightshade fortress, known for its fierce isolation, was unprecedented.

"The language, Luna?" Lykos asked, his hand hovering over the transmitter. "Does 'The Curse is Broken' imply a full cure? That's a massive claim."

"It implies the curse is broken enough," Amelia clarified. "It is broken in the only way that matters to the Morvane Nation: it failed to kill the True Mate upon claiming. It is broken because the bond is intact. Use the exact wording I gave you, Lykos. Every syllable is a strategic bomb aimed at Zoran Vane’s authority."

He is whole. He is ours. The pain is just the passing shadow, her wolf purred, oddly calm, the ferocious hunger replaced by a deep, resonant contentment. Amelia could feel the shift: Kian was resting, but his wolf was aware, projecting a powerful, possessive calm into her core. She might have spent her life analyzing the markets, but the raw emotional depth now available to her through Kian was staggering.

“It is necessary,” Amelia stated, walking toward the exit hatch, her posture radiating newly claimed authority. “Zoran Vane has relied on our division. He cannot survive the public spectacle of our unification. The claim is the legal weapon; the wedding is the public victory. The Morvane world must see the new King and Queen, touched and whole, before Zoran can mount a counter-narrative.”

She paused at the hatch, looking back at Kian one last time. He lay still, but she felt the deep, constant thrum of his wolf through the bond—a low, contented growl beneath the layers of physical pain. It was the purest declaration of possession, a lullaby of ownership that promised absolute protection and absolute devotion. Amelia realized she had traded her freedom for a magnificent, terrifying fate.

“He paid the price for ten seconds of certainty,” Amelia said softly, addressing her team and her own conscience. “And I will not allow that certainty to waver. We are giving them seven days to prepare. Seven days of panic in the Crescent Bloc, seven days of celebration among the traditionalists, and seven days for the King to wake up to his new reality. We will leverage every single asset we have. I want every minor Pack Alpha to receive a personal invitation. I want the finest tailor in the Nation flown in, and I want the fortress prepared for a gathering of twenty thousand Morvanes. No expense spared. This is not a ceremony; it is a declaration of war.”

With that, Amelia stepped out of the bunker and into the dawn, carrying the political mandate for a wedding that would change the course of the Morvane nation. She was no longer the exiled strategist; she was the claimed Luna, and her first act was to plan her own, very public ceremony. The clock on the seven days of chaos had officially begun.
