Alpha King of Ruin and Desire

Chapter 26

Ch. 26 / 150 Dec 30, 2025

The journey out of the hidden sanctuary felt less like a descent from heaven and more like an emergence into a new life. Amelia leaned her head against Kian’s shoulder as they walked the last stretch of the private tunnel, the solid, comforting rhythm of his heartbeat beneath her ear a constant assurance that the nightmare was truly over. She was no longer just the princess from the Citadel, a bargaining chip or a cursed pawn; she was Amelia Sterling, the Luna of the strongest Pack in the Nation, and the marked Mate of its Alpha King.

The change in her was palpable. Where once there was a brittle tension, now a deep, radiating calm settled in her eyes. Her aura, once scattered and uncertain, now pulsed with the steady, powerful gold of the True Mate bond, a power Kian could feel weaving through the very air they breathed. He caught her hand, bringing her knuckles to his lips, and a wave of pure, possessive joy washed over him.

“Ready to face the pack, my Luna?” he murmured, as they reached the hidden door that led to the Keep’s main courtyard platform.

Amelia smiled, her gaze meeting his, reflecting the boundless devotion he felt. “I am ready, Kian. Let them look. Let them see what’s real.”

They were greeted by the Council of Elders, a severe group of ancient wolves responsible for the Pack’s spiritual and traditional governance, waiting solemnly at the base of the steps. The oldest among them, Elder Brennus, whose eyes were milky with age but sharp with ancient wisdom, stepped forward.

“King Kian, Luna Amelia,” Brennus intoned, his voice raspy. “The Pack welcomes you home. Now, let us confirm what the spirits have already proclaimed.”

Amelia stood tall, holding Kian’s hand firmly, and offered her neck. The custom was ancient and deeply rooted: the mark, the physical manifestation of the True Mate bond, had to be examined and blessed by the elders to be official. It was the final step of the prophecy.

Elder Brennus approached, his weathered hands trembling slightly. He gently pulled back the neckline of her velvet dress. There, just beneath the curve of her collarbone, was the mark. It wasn't merely Kian’s bite; it was a swirling tapestry of midnight black and deep, metallic silver—the colors of the Nightshade crest—etched into her skin. It looked like a permanent celestial tattoo, humming faintly with hidden power.

Brennus touched the mark with two fingers, and a wave of power—raw, pure, and uncontaminated—rippled outward. He closed his eyes, a profound sigh escaping his lips. When he opened them, tears tracked paths through the wrinkles of his face.

“The curse is broken,” he announced, his voice suddenly strong and ringing through the silence. “The bond is completed and made true. The mark is pure. All doubt is erased. Luna Amelia is fully Nightshade.”

A roar erupted from the assembled wolves—a joyous, deafening sound of relief and triumph. The tension that had plagued the Pack since the start of the conflict evaporated into cheers. Kian pulled Amelia into his embrace, burying his face in her hair as the Pack celebrated their future.

That evening, the Great Hall of the Keep was transformed. Massive hearths crackled, banishing the chill of the Northern night, and garlands of pine and fire lilies were draped everywhere. The air was thick with the scent of roasted venison, spiced cider, and the sheer euphoria of a Pack celebrating the confirmation of its leadership.

Kian and Amelia were seated on the twin thrones at the head of the feasting table, but they spent little time there.

“Did you miss me Alpha?” Kian turned to see the familiar voice.

“Beta Gareth!” Kian opened his arm for his Beta after months.

“Luna, welcome to Nightshade! My apology for not bing there fir your wedding. I was in a compulsory training for Betas” Gareth bowed to welcome Amelia.

“Kian missed you a lot Beta Gareth. I hope you have no any other business in near future to leave the pack” Amelia shows a gentle and kind smile.

Kian, relaxed for the first time in months, was radiant. His usual guarded intensity was replaced by an open, easy humor as he toasted the fighters and shared laughs with his closest Beta, Gareth.

Amelia moved through the crowd, a vision of grace and acceptance. She stopped to speak with the omegas, the children, and the older wolves, her newly confirmed status giving her words unprecedented weight. The Southern stiffness was gone, replaced by the natural warmth that Kian had always known she possessed. She talked about the power of the Pack, about hope, and about her commitment to the Northern lands. Every wolf she spoke to walked away feeling energized, seen, and secure.

Later, as the festivities reached their peak, Kian pulled Amelia away from the main celebration toward the balcony overlooking the Northern forest. The moon, fat and bright, cast silver light across the ancient, towering pines.

“They love you,” Kian murmured, wrapping his arms around her waist and resting his chin on the top of her head. “They always needed someone to believe in. And you gave it to them.”

Amelia sighed contentedly, leaning back into his strength. “I feel it, Kian. I feel them. It's like the bond didn’t just link us; it linked me to the very heart of this place. I finally feel… home.”

They stood there for a long moment, simply breathing in the cold, clean air of their territory, enjoying the quiet symphony of the distant feasting and the whisper of the wind through the forest. It was a perfect moment of peace, confirmation, and belonging.

“I love you, Amelia,” Kian whispered against her hair, his voice thick with emotion.

“And I love you, my King,” she replied, turning in his arms to kiss him, a deep, soul-stirring kiss that felt like a promise of all the decades to come.

But as their lips parted, a sharp, metallic odor assaulted Amelia’s senses. It wasn't the smell of the pack, or the forest, or the feast. It was a strange, chemically sharp scent, like rot mixed with ozone, alien and profoundly wrong.

Kian felt her tense instantly. “What is it?”

Amelia drew a shuddering breath. "I don't know, but something is… wrong with the air. It’s thin, like the life has been sucked out of it." She was relying on the new, raw sensitivity the True Mate bond had given her to the land itself.

Before Kian could reply, a chilling sound reached them from the deep woods. It was a sound no wolf should ever hear in the heart of their secured territory: the sharp, panicked, desperate cry of a wild animal in agony, immediately followed by the wet, sickening sound of a massive tree crashing down.

The celebration below instantly quieted. The joyous noise was replaced by a deadly silence.

Kian’s face hardened, his Alpha command radiating instantly. “Gareth!”

Before his Beta could reach them, another, closer sound cut through the air—a loud, rushing noise, like a powerful current suddenly diverted.

Kian and Amelia rushed to the edge of the balcony, looking toward the Silver River, the lifeblood of the Nightshade territory. In the moonlight, the river, which should have been a rushing torrent of pure, crystalline water, was black.

The water was no longer flowing; it was a sluggish, oily sludge, and the silver sheen of life had been replaced by a horrifying, putrid sheen of decay. Worse, the immediate bank of the river, where vibrant moss and lush ferns had thrived hours before, was now nothing but brittle, ash-gray dust.

Amelia gasped, clutching Kian’s arm as a wave of deep, cold dread hit her. The joy and warmth of the bond were suddenly invaded by a creeping, profound wrongness that felt like an infection in the very soul of the land.

"Kian, the prophecy," she whispered, her voice trembling. "They failed to break the bond, so they are breaking the kingdom."

Kian felt the blood drain from his face, his eyes fixed on the contaminated river. The black water, the falling trees, the chilling smell—this was not a natural event. This was war.

“Elders!” Kian roared, his voice carrying the authority and fury of an Alpha King under siege, his voice cracking the sudden silence of the night. “Double the guards on the South and West borders. No one leaves the Keep! Gareth, dispatch scouts to the river source—I want answers now! Something dark has been unleashed upon the North, and it has already begun to rot our lands.”
