** Anna’s POV **
I was bored to death at home, it had been two weeks already since I quit my job. I had applied for a new job in over four places but I was yet to get any feedback from any of the companies. I wasn’t really worried, I could take care of myself long enough to find a job.
But then I had to find a way to deal with the boredom. Too much screen time was a threat to my eyesight, I wanted to do something different today, something productive, maybe something that would make me happy.
My first option was Jennifer but the daughter of Jezebel had left me behind on a road trip with her other friends, too bad I didn’t have other friends. Megan had called in a few times to see how I was faring and she even asked to know if I had a change of mind but I was way past that now, there is no going back.
I like to wonder if Mr. Blackwood still thinks of me, because I can't keep him out of my head. There has been no contact between us in the past two weeks, although it still feels like he is around me every now and then, I still smell his cologne everywhere, he is messing with my head and I can't help it.
I am glad that part of my life was over, this new Chapter might be boring, but so is every beautiful story. The first paragraph doesn’t always determine the end, I know things will get better with time.
To deal with my boredom problem today, I decided to call my gummy bear. Just when I have enough time for him, he has been too busy lately. I haven’t even seen him in four days and I miss him so much.
I found the phone lying not too far from me in the sitting room. I have been clinging to it too much lately. I would go crazy if I didn't randomly scroll through stuff every five minutes.
I dialed Jimmy’s number and it began to ring, a smile spread across my face as he took the call. “Hey love,” I said with a blush.
“Hi,” he replied from the other end, his alluring voice cutting through my soul.
I frowned. “What happened to Princess?” I queried, he just said hi, what for?
He chuckled softly from the other end. “Sorry, I have just been having a busy day.”
“Oh, want me to come over? In fact, I was already thinking of coming over.” I confessed.
There was a little silence from the other end of the phone and then he spoke. “Opps, sorry Ann, but I am not in town. I would return late at night, so don’t bother coming over.” He replied.
“Oh,” I mouthed, trying to hide my disappointment. “Alright then.” I said and nodded.
“Yeah… Look, can we talk later, I have to get back to work.” He requested.
I nodded again, even though he couldn’t see me. “Sure, later. Bye.”
“Alright.” Was his last words before he ended the call.
Just like that? Fuck! Why is he always busy? I miss him so much.
As I lay back on the couch, a thought crossed my mind. What if I surprised him? Since he is not in town and he is really stressed out, I can go over to his place, clean it up, cook a nice meal and wait for him to return.
My face brightened with the idea, I rushed to the window frame to see if the spare keys he forgot one time he was here were still up there, luckily I found the key. I then rushed to the bathroom to take a bath.
As I left the house, for the umpteenth time, I was hit with the reminder that I no longer had a car. I walked right into the scorching sun. Sometimes I forget how hot it can get in New York City.
I found a cab and first went to the market to get groceries as I doubt he had foodstuffs back at home, and then I asked the cab to take me to his place. With the rising cost of petrol, I couldn’t help but notice an increase in the price of transportation as well. It never used to be a problem for me because the company took care of the car’s expenses, and refilled it every week so I never had to worry about the cost of petrol.
It began to rain as I approached Jimmy’s house, like every other black guy, he lived in a black neighborhood. I used to be very scared to come over here when we first started dating but then I got to learn that they are really nice people, you just don’t want to cross them.
I paid for the ride and ran into the rain, I didn’t stop till I was inside the verandah. I stopped at the door to take off my wet shoes and also watched the cab drive away. At least I made it here, the rain can keep falling for all I care.
I checked the bag of foodstuffs to make sure that nothing was ruined and after confirmation, I then turned around to open the door.
I unlocked the door and pushed it open, but just as I got in, I noticed the lights were on; that was strange. Jimmy always turns off the light when he is out of town.
I sighed and closed the door, dropping the bag by the door because it was still dripping water, I didn’t want to stain the rugs. My eyes scanned the room and it was in a mess, it looked like I had a lot of cleaning to do.
But then something caught my attention, something that left me frozen, shocked, my jaws dropped, rendering me speechless.
“No, it can’t be.” I mouthed inaudibly, as chills ran down my spine and my heart stopped working. “Please don’t be true.” I voiced out, tears forming in my eyes.
I had to be seeing wrong!
This is not happening!
I don’t believe it!
