# 78 False Friend

Ch. 78 / 129 Mar 31, 2025

Tears rolled down Anna’s eyes as she sat there in shock; why was this happening to her? Why was everyone in her life betraying her?

She was still contemplating on her miserable life when she heard a knock on the door. Anna got up and slowly walked to the door, she stood there crying, not knowing if to open the door or not.

When the knock persisted, she slowly unlocked the door and pulled it open. It was Jennifer standing outside, wearing a pity face the moment she saw Anna.

“Oh babe, I am so sorry.” Jennifer cooed and embraced her in a tight hug. “I just wish you had listened to me, I tried to warn you about him.” she said in consolation.

Annabel didn’t reciprocate the hug, she just stood there crying, Jennifer’s words of consolation only fueled the rage and anger with her. How could this human look her in the face and pretend like she didn’t sleep with her boyfriend?

Jennifer broke the hug and stepped back. “It is okay, Anna. Please stop crying, at least now your life purpose can be clear, you are finally free from that liar and cheat.”

“Yeah, I am free from him,” Anna scoffed and sniffed in, holding back her tears for a few seconds. “But what about you?” she added immediately.

Jenifer looked confused at her words, she stared at her like asking for more clarification. “What are you talking about? Are you okay?” she asked with a look of concern.

“Don’t stand there and act all innocent with me, Jen. You were supposed to be my best friend, I trusted you!” Anna yelled in pain.

“What are you talking about? Of course I am your best friend, I always warned you about Jimmy but you choose not to listen to me, where is my offense in all that?” Jennifer queried.

Anna rubbed her forehead that was hurting badly from crying in the past twenty-four hours. She fought back the tears that were rushing down her face, pain in her heart.

“Why Jennifer? Why??” she lamented.

“Okay, you are scaring me. What are you talking about? We should go inside.” Jennifer advised.

“No, you would not step foot into my house or my life. Are you going to stand there and pretend like you didn’t sleep with my boyfriend? How long has this been going on?”

Jenifer’s face went pale that moment, and then slowly turned red. There was fear and shock in her eyes. “Anna, I don’t know what Jimmy told you as a final resort to ruin your life, but I didn’t do that.”

“You would stand there and lie to my face? How dare you? I trusted you with my life and you do this to me, Jen? Like why? You have so many guys in your life, and yet you still sleep with my man. Why would you do that to me?” Anna cried out, unable to hold back the pain in her heart.

“That is not true, Anna. Please you have to believe me, you are my best friend and I care about you, Jimmy is a liar!”

“Sure, he is. But what about this video I happen to have? Is it also lying?” Anna retorted as she raised her phone to reveal the video clip to Jennifer.

Jennifer froze that moment, the look on her face would tell that she knew she was busted. She waved her head as her eyes got teary. “I can explain Ann, just hear me out.”

“No, you have had your chance and you lied to my face, that tells me all that I needed to know about our friendship. You should be on your way, Jennifer Gilbert. We are done,” Anna clearly stated.

“Wait Anna, just hear what I have to say, I admit I lied but…”

“I said get out!!” Anna screamed at the top of her voice. “I don’t ever want to see you again, you backstabbing bitch!” she cursed.

Jennifer folded her lips and shook her head in plea. “Don’t do this Anna, I won’t be able to live with myself if we don’t talk this out, I know I have messed up but please hear me out.”

“I curse the day I met you, Jen. I hope our paths never cross again,” Anna said in tears. “Now get the hell out of my house and never ever return,” she spat as she stepped back and slammed the door at Jennifer’s face.

Anna stepped back immediately in tears, she felt dizzy and grabbed the wall for support, then slowly sank at the base of the door, she placed her back against the door and let the tears flow, she felt shattered on the inside, she had lost everything, her job, her friends, her relationship, it was all gone.

Jennifer strolled out to the street, completely unconscious of her environment. She was feeling devastated, she couldn’t believe her friendship had come to an end. For months now, she had tried to confess the truth to Anna but she couldn’t find the courage.

She always cared about Anna and even though her ways of showing it were questionable, it didn’t change the fact that Anna meant a lot to her. She had failed to resist the temptation when Jimmy came to her but she regretted it afterwards.

As she dragged herself through the road, she tried to fight back the tears pooling in her eyes. This isn’t how it was supposed to go, she was starting to think that Anna would never find out and everything would be just perfect, but the worst had happened.

Perhaps she should have summoned the courage to confess the truth earlier and maybe the damage wouldn’t be much. It won't change the fact that she slept with her best friend’s boyfriend but maybe she would still have her best friend.

Jennifer’s deep thoughts were disturbed by the loud screeching sounds of tires, she turned around and screamed as she saw a car speeding in her direction, and then suddenly she dropped to the floor and blacked out.
