Why Can't I Get Her Out of My Mind?
Mrs Haward opened and closed her mouth but no words came out as she stood staring at Jason's face.
"Apologies, it's not my fault. You usually don't have women walking around your house, so I thought they broke into the house," Mrs Haward said and sat down on the sofa.
Jason frowned listening to Mrs Haward's excuse, but he ignored her, knowing she had just thrown them out of the house because they were not up to her standard.
"Mum, what is the reason behind this unannounced visit?" Jason asked, sitting down on the sofa opposite her.
"Yeah. I just needed to understand some things, so I could give you my full support. We will soon have to announce you and your wife to the world. It will be good to know her better before then. For instance, which noble family did she come from and what job she is in?" Mrs Haward said and Jason's face darkened.
"But, I am a bit surprised. How long have you two been dating?" Mrs Haward inquired curiously.
"Please let's go to my study. This is not a discussion to be done in the living room," Jason said, Mrs Haward agreed, following him to his study.
Once inside the study, Jason and Mrs Haward sat on the sofa. Jason stared at her for a while, wondering why she was suddenly interested in matters concerning him. As far back as he could remember, she had never been interested in matters concerning him.
"Mum," Jason said, staring at her face with a questioning look.
"Why are you really here asking me all of this? You have never been interested in my affairs before?" Jason asked.
"That is true, but I never bothered about you because I knew my husband was taking care of you. I paid attention to James and Mirenda because I didn't want them to feel neglected," Mrs Haward said.
Jason frowned, as what she said didn't make sense to him, but he decided not to probe.
"Okay," Jason replied.
"Well, there is not much to be said about my wife aside from the fact that she rescued me," Jason said, with no intention of letting Mrs Haward know he had woken up married to Julia and the only reason he had acknowledged her, was because Mr Haward asked him to.
"Rescue you, from what?" Mrs Haward asked, doubting Jason was telling her the truth.
Jason was quiet for a while, unsure of what to say as he searched his mind for something that she would believe.
"I am sorry Mum. I can't tell you that. It isn't very comfortable. It's another reason why I married her. If she is with me, I can monitor her and ensure she doesn't tell others," Jason said and got up from the seat, moving towards his beverage area.
"Tea?" Jason asked as he made himself a cup of tea.
"No," replied Mrs Haward as she gave Jason's reply to her question a thought.
"What could be so embarrassing that Jason had to marry this girl to cover up?" Mrs Haward thought, and her gaze moved to Jason, staring at his back as he made the tea.
"The only way I can dig something out is when we all move in here. If he does not tell me, he may tell Mirenda or James," Mrs Haward thought.
"That is fine but where does she come from," Mrs Haward inquired as Jason sat back down on the sofa.
"Belle Glade," Jason replied, and Mrs Haward frowned.
"Which noble family lives there?" Mrs Haward asked.
"None. She is not from a rich family. She is an orphan and I have already told you why I married her," Jason replied.
"That is fine. I shall return home tomorrow and hope James, your brother, has not turned the house into a club," Mrs Haward said with a giggle, but Jason kept on a straight face as they both got up from the sofa, heading for the door.
Jason had one of the servants prepare a room for his mother and he proceeded to check on Julia. He knocked on the door, but it wasn't well closed, so it opened. From the door, he could see her sleeping peacefully on her bed with the bedside lamp still on.
Jason entered and strolled to her bed. She appeared to have dosed off while reading as she still had the open book in hand and her blanket lying somewhere on the bed. His eyes moved from her sleeping face down her body. It was like her skin glowed under the light. He could not help but admire her beauty. He took the book from her hand, making sure he didn't wake her. He already knew she was scared of him. He picked up the blanket and covered her with it, but he felt someone was watching him. He shifted his gaze to the door but saw no one. He put off the bedside lamp and exited the room, closing the door gently behind him.
Tilly tiptoed back into her bed. She stepped out of her room to get some water when she saw Julia's door open, so she decided to close it only to find Jason inside the room. She hid behind the door as she watched what he was doing but quickly moved away when she saw Jason was about to turn.
"What was he doing inside her room?" Tilly thought as she lay on her bed.
Inside Jason's room, he took a shower and returned to his bedroom, changing into his sleepwear. The image of Julia came back to his mind and he froze in place. He closed his eyes to get rid of the image, but that was even worse as provocative images appeared in his mind. He left the bedroom and went to his study, turned on his laptop and started working on some files to distract himself.
The next morning, Mrs Haward left the apartment very early and went back to the family condo in Aventura. Jason also left the house very early to avoid seeing Julia. Peter looked at him from the rearview mirror and could tell he had not slept.
"Boss, something troubling you?" Peter asked as he made the next turn towards the office.
"Just drive?" came Jason's voice.
"Yes, boss," replied Peter.
Jason sat in the back seat of the car wondering why he could not get Julia out of his mind. She is a woman too, so why can't he treat her like how he treats any other woman?
Back in Jason's apartment, Tilly was already in Julia's room.
"Thanks," said Julia.
"For what?" Tilly inquired.
"I know you took the book from my hand," Julia said.
"How did you know?" asked Tilly.
"I mostly put it under my pillow when I am going to bed. It was on the nightstand, which could only mean I slept reading and you...... Why am I even explaining to you?" Julia said, making her bed.
"Oh, so that is what he was doing in the room," Tilly thought, but smiled.
Back at Aventura, Mrs Haward had arrived at the condo. She ran into Mirenda who was coming from the kitchen holding a cup of coffee.
"You are back mum," Mirenda said.
"Yes, and we are all going to live with Jason," Mrs Haward said.
"Why?" came James's voice from the stairs.
James didn't like Jason's house because it was full of man-servants and all the female servants were in the kitchen.
"It's part of the plan to recover the family property," Mrs Haward replied.
"So what will happen to the condo?" asked Mirenda.
"Good question, I have a plan, but I need your total commitment. We will use everything to take back what belongs to us?" Mrs Haward said and both James and Mirenda raised an eyebrow, staring at her.
