Bryce rushed to Angela's side and carried her off the floor. He was now concerned about her frequent passing out. The only difference now is her sudden scream. He exited the living room without noticing the artefact lying just a distance away from Angela's body but his father did.
Devon picked up the artefact wondering why Angela had it but he placed it where he had kept it and followed Bryce out of the house. He was just in time to see Bryce's car move out of his compound. He called his driver and he also followed Bryce in his car.
Bryce arrived at the hospital and called for help. Angela was soon sent to the emergency. Devon arrived after Angela had been sent to the emergency and he joined his son in the waiting area.
"Is she dead?" Devon asked and Bryce threw him a look.
"Is that what you wish her?" Bryce questioned his father with a frown. "What do you have against her?" he asked another question before his father could answer the first question.
"I have nothing against her. I am only worried about what she will do to you in the future," Devon expressed but before Bryce could react to the statement, the doctor walked up to him.
"Mr Moore, can I see you briefly?" the doctor requested and Bryce nodded.
The doctor led the way to his office with Bryce and his father following. The doctor opened the door to his office and Bryce entered followed by his father. The doctor looked at Devon and shifted his gaze back to Bryce.
"He is my father. I trust him," Bryce said and the doctor allowed Devon in.
The doctor sat behind his desk and Bryce and his father sat on the provided seat in front of him.
"How is my wife?" Bryce asked immediately.
"Your wife is fine but there are a couple of things I need to let you in on," the doctor said and Bryce together with Devon listened attentively.
"Your wife is pregnant. Four weeks old. However, we detected some traces of cocaine in her blood and this is not good for the baby. This can cause issues like, miscarriage, preterm birth, low birth weight, placental abruption and neonatal abstinence syndrome also called NAS. This means your baby gets addicted to a drug before birth and has to go through drug withdrawal after birth. Symptoms usually begin shortly after birth and can last several weeks. Symptoms of NAS include tremors (shaking), increased irritability, trouble sleeping and excessive crying. All conditions mentioned are very dangerous," the doctor explained.
Bryce already knew Angela was not a drug addict and that her drink was spiked with cocaine and she unknowingly consumed it.
"What do I have to do?" Bryce asked, his happiness turned into worry and Devon frowned hearing what the doctor had said about Angela's drug addiction.
Devon recalled the details of Mark's report which he had read intensively multiple times. The report never mentioned anything about Angela being drug-addicted. If Angela was a drug addict Mark would have said so in his report. This only means she is not but Devon despite this felt it was something he could use to separate Bryce and Angela.
"I recommend we begin a comprehensive prenatal care. This involves regular checkups and tests to ensure the health of the mother and baby throughout pregnancy. Your wife would also have to go to counselling. She will also have to go to a specialist rehab centre to start safe drug detoxification," the doctor advises.
"Can you do it here?" Bryce asked ready to do as recommended to ensure, his baby and Angela were okay.
"We do have a specialist here and we can begin the treatment," the doctor said.
"Please, start with the treatment then," Bryce said.
"Very well," the doctor said and gave the necessary documents for Bryce to sign.
"Is she awake? Can I see her," Bryce asked.
"She has been moved to one of the private wards so you can see her but she is not awake yet," the doctor informed Bryce and he nodded.
The doctor called in a nurse and she led Bryce and his father out of his office, leading them to Angela's ward. Bryce and his father walked into Angela's ward to find Angela lying there with her eyes closed. She was still not awake as the doctor had said. Bryce drew closer to her bed, his heart aching for her. He held her hand and planted a kiss on the back of her hand. His father Devon stood there watching his son's concern for Angela.
"Please wake up. I promise to protect you better. We are going to have a baby," Bryce said to Angela whose eyes were still closed and had some monitors attached to her body.
Bryce leaned in and pecked her lips.
"You mean a lot to me. Please wake up," Bryce said.
"Bryce, come outside with me," Devon said and Bryce pecked Angela's lips one more time before going out of the ward with his father.
"Bryce, what is wrong with you?"Devon questioned Bryce once they were both standing outside in front of Angela's ward's closed door.
"What do you mean?" Bryce asked with a frown. "Am I not allowed to take care of my wife?" he asked.
"Did you miss any of the things the doctor said in there?" Devon questioned. "A drug addict and you feel relaxed about this revelation? Did you already know she is a drug addict and still decided to marry her?" he asked.
"Dad, Angela is not a drug addict. Diana spiked her drink with the drugs and she consumed it without knowing. This is why I terminated Diana's contract with the company for having illegal drugs and using them on an employee. She is with the police now," Bryce said.
"Very convenient," Devon said almost throwing his hand in the air. "Is it not strange to you that everything she does, it turns out someone was behind it? Have you ever bothered to ask yourself, who she is and why everyone is trying to frame her even if that is true?" he questioned and that sent Bryce into thinking but the evidence he had proving Angela innocent convinced him Angela was indeed innocent.
"Dad, I am not just defending her words. I have the evidence of the schemes pulled by Eva, Susan and Diana just to make her look bad," Bryce defended.
"I see, so tell me, how do you explain she leaving your house in an Uber to Luke's place?" Devon questioned and Bryce frowned. "You think I don't know she went to Luke's place and was in his bed?" he said and Bryce started wondering what Angela went to do at Luke's place in the first place.
"If she knew where to find Luke, the womanizer who sleeps with anything in a skirt, what makes you think, that child she is carrying is yours?" Devon asked sending Bryce's mind into another direction of thinking.
"I was the one who broke her virginity. She is twenty-three and still a virgin. If she is that kind of a person, she would have lost her virginity before I met her," Bryce defended.
He knew his defence was weak but he wanted to trust what he felt within. He strongly believed Angela was a good girl and nothing like what his father was saying.
"You broke her virginity and moved her to your home. What makes you think, she didn't plot all of this?" Devon said. "You broke her virginity, can you tell if she is sleeping around after that? Are you around her 24/7? What makes you think, she didn't plot it all just to win your complete trust," he pointed out.
"She would go through all this trouble to plot all of this, for what?" Bryce asked sounding naive.
"What else if not for your inheritance," Devon said and Bryce squeezed his brow. "I will not sit and watch you make stupid decisions with your small head inside your pants just because you had the chance to get intimate with a woman for the first time," he added. "Stay with Angela and I will take everything away from you," he threatened and left Bryce standing there.
Bryce began to process everything his father had said to him looking at the possibility of it being true. He fetched his phone and made a call to someone.
"I need you to do something for me. Get me everything you can find on Angela Anderson," Bryce said and ended the call after.
He stared at Angela who was still sleeping through the glass window on the door.
