Chapter 89: Tragedy Strikes

Ch. 89 / 193 Mar 05, 2025

"Ms Angela, I am glad to see you again. My brother is looking for you," Elena said and Angela just stared at her.

"Are you two going to stand there all day?" Zora asked alternative his gaze between the two.

"Pardon my manners, please come inside. I mean have a seat," Angela said not sure what to think of Elena's visit but what Zora said about getting some information that will help with clarification of her suspicion also crowded her mind.

The trio moved to the living room and Zora excused them so they could have some privacy.

"So, you are here to convince me to go back to your brother?" Angela asked sitting opposite Elena.

"Well, you can look at it that way?" Elena replied and Angela raised an eyebrow.

"What do you mean?" Angela asked trying to get clarification.

"I came to find out one thing," Elena began.

"You are the first woman to capture my brother's attention to the extent that he married you and brought you to his home. No one woman had spent the night in his apartment you are the first to live there with him," Elena said and Angela understood why Bryce kept leaving the apartment when she moved in.

"My brother is searching for you everywhere. I am surprised he has still not found you yet with all the resources he has and looking at where you are hiding. This to me only means, someone is preventing him from finding you," Elena said. "But anyway, I don't suppose my brother raped you to make you pregnant," she said and Angela frowned. "So I want to know, why did you leave?" she asked.

Angela stared at Elena, who was very young but stared at her like an adult. She never went back to Bryce's apartment because of an artefact she found in Bryce's family home. That artefact belongs to her father and it was stolen the night her parents were murdered. She saw the murderer take the artefact away before darkness engulfed her. Angela lowered her head briefly. She can't just tell Elena she left because she saw an artefact belonging to her father which was taken out of her apartment by one of the men who killed her parents.

"I just needed space to think things through. Your brother and I didn't marry because we love each other. We have a different reason for getting married and now that I am pregnant, I wanted to rethink our relationship to see the way forward," Angela lied.

"Hmmm, I may be a child, but I can tell you are lying," Elena said and Angela frowned.

"I am not. Your brother and I didn't marry because we love each other," Angela said.

"Not that part. That part about you rethinking the relationship because you found out you were pregnant," Elena said and Angela frowned.

"I see it in your eyes Angela. You love my brother as much as my brother loves you. So what made you leave?" Elena asked.

"How old are you?" Angela asked and Elena smiled.

"I am nineteen," Elena replied.

"Don't you think you are too young for conversations like this?" Angela asked.

"Some people get married at the age of eighteen, some even less," Elena said and smiled and Angela knew she could not get her to drop the topic.

"Look, I have my reason for leaving and I am not ready to share that with you. That is the truth," Angela said.

"Okay, I respect that," Elena said with an expressionless face. "My brother needs you. He can never be with another woman. Whatever it is I believe it is something you and my brother can talk about. If he has done something wrong, please give him a chance to defend himself, please," she pleaded and Angela felt a sharp pain in her heart.

"Elena, I know you came here because you care about your brother but it's complicated. I will need time to sort things out. It's not that simple. Unfortunately, I can't tell you what it is," Angela said.

"Okay, I understand but I will plead with you to just call and talk to him and ask him to give you space. Vanishing like that is breaking him," Elena said and Angela lowered her head.

"Okay, I will call him," Angela said.

"Please do. It will help a lot," Elena said.

They spoke for a while and Angela saw Elena off.

"How did it go?" Zora asked and Angela exhaled returning to her seat.

"I told her I was going to call Bryce," Angela said dropping herself into the seat.

"Well, Mr Moore seems like an understanding person. Your parents were murdered when you were just thirteen and that was ten years ago. I am sure Mr Moore was also a teenager like you. So he couldn't be the one who sent people to commit the crime. You said it yourself, those who murdered your parents were adults," Zora said. "So you can call him and calm him down. Let him know you are safe and so is his child and you just need some time off," she added and Angela nodded.

"Great, so much for eavesdropping. Were you guys whispering?" Zora asked and Angela laughed.

"There was nothing to eavesdrop about?" Angela said.

"I heard you say something about age, can you clarify that?" Zora said.

"Please go take a shower so I can do the same later. I am sure the shower will tell you," Angela said.

"You are so mean," Zora said and started walking away. "Next time I will bug the living room and you guys should speak loudly," she added.

"Next time? Why do you intend to invite her over again?" Angela asked.

"Yeah, I am learning to eavesdrop. I can only practise in my home," Zora said climbing the stairs.

"You are funny," Angela said.

She stood up and went out onto the balcony after Zora had left for some fresh air since she was beginning to feel hot. She admired the outside environment. The other buildings appear to be a bit far from where they were but it was a nice place. Angela rested her hand on the railing and lowered her gaze, that was when she saw the person lying on the floor. She frowned and rubbed her eyes and looked at the person again.

"Is that Elena?" Angela whispered to herself.

She exited the balcony and exited the apartment. She hurried towards the staircase and went down. She used the opposite exit and there, lying on the floor was Elena.

"Elena," Angela called out to her and rushed to her side.

She turned her around and she realized she had a bullet wound on her head and there was blood on the floor.

Angela's heart started racing not sure what to do as she stared at the horror in front of her.
