The Man They Killed Just Walked In

Betrayal Tastes Like Blood

Ch. 19 / 20 Apr 18, 2025

Zeke’s POV

She thought I didn’t notice.

The way her hands trembled when she read that message. The way her fingers curled around her phone just a little too tight, knuckles turning white. The way she kept glancing at me, like she was waiting for the right moment to slip away.

But I wasn’t an idiot.

Lena was thinking about running.

I leaned against the edge of my desk, watching her carefully. She was pretending to read through some documents Jax had left, but her eyes weren’t moving across the page. She was somewhere else.

With him.

I exhaled slowly, keeping my voice even. “You tell me if he contacts you.”

Lena’s head snapped up. For half a second, she looked guilty.

Then she schooled her expression, nodding once. “Of course.”

She was lying.

I had spent five years tracking people down, breaking them apart piece by piece, studying their every movement until I knew what they were going to do before they did.

Lena was good at hiding things. But she wasn’t that good. So I let it go. Let her think she had fooled me. Let her believe I wasn’t already three steps ahead.

Because if Lena wanted to play this game, she was going to learn the hard way—

I never lose. That night, I waited.

I sat in the shadows of my office, the city lights flickering behind me, the penthouse too quiet.

And sure enough—

The sound of soft footsteps. The quiet click of a door unlocking. I moved before she even had a chance to slip out.

Lena barely had time to reach for the handle before my hand closed around her wrist, stopping her cold.

She gasped, spinning to face me. Her eyes went wide, her lips parting slightly. “Zeke—”

I arched a brow. “Going somewhere?”

Lena yanked her wrist back, fire in her eyes. But I tightened my grip, stepping closer. She wasn’t getting away that easily.
