The Man They Killed Just Walked In

A Night of Weakness

Ch. 14 / 20 Apr 18, 2025

Lena’s POV

“You drive me insane, Donahue.”

The words left my lips before I could stop them, sharp and laced with frustration.

Zeke smirked, leaning against the counter, arms crossed over his chest like he knew. Like he enjoyed how much he got under my skin.

“I noticed,” he said smoothly, tilting his head, those piercing blue eyes locked onto mine.

I hated him.

Or at least, I should have.

I should have despised him for keeping me locked away in this gilded cage, for making choices for me like he owned me.

But then—his hands.

His touch.

Soft where I expected roughness. Careful where I expected control.

And I felt it—the shift in the air.

We were standing too close.

The space between us had shrunk into nothing, the heat of his body wrapping around mine like a warning. Or maybe a promise.

The tension was suffocating, electric, something I wasn’t sure I could fight much longer.

Zeke’s smirk faded, his gaze darkening as he reached out, brushing his fingers along my jaw. Light. Barely there.

I stopped breathing.

“You want me to leave?” he murmured, his voice low, deep, his breath hot against my skin.

Yes.

No.

I wasn’t sure anymore. I was shaking. Not from fear—but from something far more dangerous.

Something that coiled low in my stomach, that made my pulse stutter and my knees weak.

His fingers moved lower, skimming over the scar on my cheek, tracing it like it meant something. Like I meant something.

I exhaled shakily, my hands twitching at my sides, unsure whether to push him away or pull him closer.

I was falling.

And I didn’t know how to stop.

Zeke dipped his head lower, his lips hovering just above mine. Close enough that I could feel the heat radiating from him, close enough that all I had to do was lean in—

Then the phone rang.

Loud. Obnoxious. A slap of reality.

I jolted, my body stiffening as Zeke let out a quiet curse under his breath.

The moment shattered.

He pulled back, jaw tight as he reached for the phone on the counter.

“This better be good,” he growled.

Jax’s voice came through the speaker, urgent, clipped. “We found out who put the hit on her.”
