"I'm Mr. Cray from the Children protecting agency." The man glanced briefly at the middle-aged-looking woman standing beside him.
"This is Mrs. Lee, my partner."
Faith stared at the ID card that was extended toward her.
Faith's eyes bore confusion, she couldn't think of a reason why they would be here to see her.
Why were they here to see her?
Her eyes immediately wandered to the nurses who were only some distance away, there was something about their stares that made Faith instantly nervous and uncomfortable.
They had also behaved suspiciously some minutes ago when they had taken Maya away.
Faith had assumed Maya had been taken away because she had been very weak, they took her away in the meantime to take good care of her baby, right?
"Without wasting much of our time, let's get down to why we are here!" Mrs. Lee started, her red-coated thin lips pressed in an unappreciative line.
"From your lifestyle, I'm sure you already know you are unfit to be a mother!" Faith didn't miss the condescending look in the woman's eyes.
Her confusion rapidly transformed into anger, who were these people to appear before her to judge her? The hairs on her whole body rose in self-defense.
"Excuse me? Who do you think you are?" Faith blasted, glaring back at the woman heatedly.
"We are here to help you, we are not the enemy here, our job is to protect children from dangerous parents like you."
"We must save innocent babies from toxic women like you! who knows, she might become the next news headline, and that would just be so unfortunate!" The woman snarled, her expression turning uglier with each sentence.
Faith's blood fumed with rage, her body vibrated uncontrollably with anger.
"Shut up! I don't tolerate anyone talking ill of me or my child!" She hissed.
" You don't even know me! How dare you say such things!" Turning to the nurses present, Faith growled out her next words.
"I want them out of here, right now! I don't want to see them!!" Faith growled at the nurse.
"It's not that easy to get rid of us Mrs. Lawson listen here__"
Faith ignored the use of Michael's last name, it wasn't the issue right now.
"Leave it to me to explain it to her." Mr. Cray spoke for the first time, his tone was calm, Faith instantly assumed he was more reasonable than his colleague until he dropped the bomb on her.
"Mrs. Lawson, unfortunately, your blood test results showed that you have been under the influence of harmful drugs for some time now! It's a miracle that your baby wasn't harmed due to your harmful lifestyle. we have to take her away because she's not safe with you!"
Faith stared at him stunned speechless for the next few seconds.
Her brain was taking its time to process the words she had just heard.
It was outrageous!
"That's ridiculous! I haven't done drugs in my entire life!" She hissed.
Her eyes flew to the nurses instantly.
"There has to be a mistake! Where is my baby? Where did you take her?! " Her hoarse voice cracked as struggled to get up from the bed but her shaky knees continued to protest.
"Ma'am, you need to calm do__" A nurse rushed towards her, trying to support her but Faith brushed off the hands furiously.
"Don't tell me to fucking calm down! I'm leaving this place right now with my baby!"
Faith grew even more heated when she realized that they were staring at her as if she was insane.
They were the crazy ones!
"Look here, We don't have all day to listen to your crazy rantings! Our job is done here! You are a threat to the child so she will continue to be under our care until you sort yourself out." Mrs. Lee's tone taunted Faith's ears and she clenched her fist, her blood boiling beneath her skin as she met the woman's cold look.
She was Maya's mother!
There were mere strangers! None of them had a right to even touch her baby!
"I won't allow you to take her! I can care for her myself!" Faith snapped.
"Don't think that you have a choice. Our actions are approved by the judiciary, we've seen so many women like you, so you don't have to pretend to care about your child. You should have thought about the consequences that follow every action!" Mr. Cray spoke.
He turned out to be an asshole as well!
Faith didn't know whether to laugh or cry or yell angrily at their stupidity!
"I've never taken drugs in my entire life! There must have been a mistake with the test! I will never harm my baby or any child at that!"
Faith watched the woman roll her eyes, it was the nurse who spoke this time.
"I'm sorry, but we have to protect the child from danger, it's best if she's taken away from you. At least for now. Please try to cooperate with them, we are doing everything for the benefit of your baby!"
Faith started to laugh hysterically.
Someone must surely be playing a prank on her!
This couldn't be happening! She didn't have the strength to deal with all these right now.
Their solemn expressions never changed.
Mr. Cray sighed, his expression was almost pitiful.
"Mrs. Lawson, there is no way you can win this. The man who also happens to be your baby's father has been arrested multiple times for drugs and assault charges."
"He's not my baby's father! I'm not Mrs. Lawson!"
They started to leave. She couldn't allow them!
Faith charged from the bed, barely conscious of the pain the action brought.
They weren't going to take her child away!
Not unless they killed her first!
"Ma'am! You are not supposed to move___!" A nurse blocked her path but Faith in a fit of rage smacked her in the face, shoving her roughly.
"You're only harming yourself, you have to stop fighting or we will have no choice but to sedate you!" The other nurse rushed to her colleague's rescue.
"You have to bring my daughter back to me! This is all a misunderstanding! Why are you all doing this__?!" Faith suddenly paused.
For a moment she didn't move.
She couldn't breathe.
How did they appear and know everything in such a short time?
Everything happening seemed preplanned!
