Sterling's eyes flickered open when a knock sounded, followed by the sound of the door being nudged open.

A scowled passed across his features, he'd specifically requested that he didn't want to be disturbed.

For a blink of a second, he had even hoped that__

"Thank you, Nora."

Sterling's grimace deepened as he watched Rex wink at the nurse who was smiling way too wide, she walked away, closing the door behind her as she did.

"Why is it you again? I don't want to see anyone, you may leave!" Sterling gritted, a look of irritation flaring in his eyes.

His whole body felt itchy.

His head ached terribly. He despised the sound of the heart monitor and the sickening smell of antiseptic, each movement hurt and he was left with no choice but to be confined to the bloody bed!

That was not even half of everything he was feeling!

Why didn't they understand that the best thing they could do was fucking leave me alone?

His glare followed Rex as he casually relaxed on the seat closest to the bed.

"Even your mom didn't wish to be stuck with your horrible temper, but someone has to babysit you, don't you think? Fortunately for you, I was willing to" Rex snorted.

If looks could kill, he would have been long dead by Sterling's lethal glare.

"Moreover, shouldn't this work be done by your wife?"

Sterling visibly tensed and looked away from Rex who seemed to be preying on his every reaction.

Sterling's tone was devoid of emotion as he muttered.

"Who are you talking about?"

Rex only chuckled aloud.

"You can't even pretend this much when I mentioned her name." Ignoring the way Sterling's eyes narrowed, he continued.

"I'm only curious about the reason you instructed the doctor to lie about your health condition, it's about her, isn't it? What are you trying to accomplish? What the hell happened between you two?"

Sterling dragged out an uneven breath.

The ugly memory sliced even deeper than his physical wounds, and he just didn't know how to deal with it.

It was a constant thorn, prickling his heart and tearing through his chest.

He was furious at himself, and at her.

She despised him and he did so much to deserve it, but she aborted their child_

Well, he did act without her consent but__

Sterling closed his eyes briefly, willing his aching nerves to relax.

Perhaps he should never have woken up, that brink of darkness had been blissful. And now, he didn't even know what he was doing.

He just had to stop hurting them both.

And there was only one way to do that.

...To let her go.

Even if that would snatch his would from him.

It was the same as having to bear her hate for him.

Inhaling a sharp breath, he stared at Rex who had been silently watching him.

He knew he probably had guessed the situation.

"She wants a divorce." He muttered quietly.

The room went quiet for some seconds, and when finally Rex broke the silence, he didn't probe to get to the detail of things.

"What do you plan to do now?"

It was a question even Sterling was still searching for the answer within himself.

What had she told him that night?

He only ever cared about what he wanted! Now, she would get exactly what she wanted.

He would allow himself to lose. She was the only thing that he wouldn't forfeit, but now he just had to accept it.

"I'm going to let her go." Sterling finally muttered a response.

Rex lifted a brow as though surprised and yet confused.

"You're going to divorce her? Then why did you have to go through the trouble of pretending to lose your memory? You knew she was here this morning and ensured she heard about it from the doctor!"

Yet, she didn't care enough to even see him, Sterling thought bitterly.

She had left just like that even though the doctor had explained his "critical" state.

Whatsoever hope he might have had was vanquished.

"I've taken so much from her, I did that only so she could be rest assured that I wouldn't hurt her or her family, she needn't be wary of me if she thinks I don't remember!" Sterling spat harshly, he despised the look of sympathy in Rex's gaze.

Like everything he did, he always had to be extreme and could only hope that she would be comfortable with living her life without him and without worry.

"I just don't understand, Did you do everything only to give up like this? Maybe you can both talk it out__"

"We've talked, nothing can be solved, this time it's over!" Sterling shut his eyes, now he wanted Rex to leave, he needed the isolation so he could wallow in his misery.

"You need to calm down! I believe your situation can be sorted out! She was here this morning! It proves that she cares about you!"

"She didn't see me! Everything is clear enough!" Sterling breathed heavily, the pain in his head starting to throb painfully, the more agitated he grew.

Rex looked ready to argue, but Sterling shut him up with a final glimpse of anguish.

"She aborted our baby__ Is that clear enough for you?"

After some seconds, Sterling quietly added.

"Can you do a favor for me later?"

Faith knew she was a coward when she'd run out of the hospital without a backward glance. The light rain showered on her face and body as she cursed herself repeatedly.

He was her husband!

And he was in that condition because of her!

The least she could have done was try to see him!

But he didn't even remember who she was, how was she supposed to face him, from where would she begin to explain?

The guilt shredded her chest even more because she was certain that he couldn't have gotten in an accident if not for their fight.

Thank God he made it! What would she have done if the accident had claimed his life?

Her feet kicked at the pebbles when suddenly her phone rang.

Absentmindedly, she clicked on the answer button.

She didn't expect to hear a quite familiar voice.

"Can we meet?"
