Wren POV
I feel comfortable in Destin's cabin. I could see myself living here, away from the prying eyes of the werewolves and the Fae. If only he could see how perfect it would be. Instead, he continues to fight me at every turn. I decide that while I am here, I am going to live in my fairy tale and pretend like it is perfect.
The air in the bathroom changes as I rinse the shampoo from my hair. I freeze with my hands in my hair. Someone has opened the door.
"Hello?" I call out stupidly.
There is no response. Maybe I am only imagining things, but the feeling that I am being watched makes me hurry through the rest of my shower.
Sliding the shower door open just a crack, I peek my head out. I was right. I am not alone. Destin is standing in the doorway.
There is an unreadable expression on his face, and I get the feeling I have made a mistake. "I see you decided to forgo the guest room."
Shit. I know he told me which room was the guest room, but I wasn't listening. "This is the room I woke up in last time. I just assumed it was the guest room."
"It is not," he replies. "It is my room."
I cock my head to the side and stare at him. Why did he put me in his bed the night of the playroom? Why does he take care of me when he insists he hates me? I have a thousand questions, but none of them are appropriate to ask while I am naked.
"I'm sorry," I mutter as I reach for my towel only to find it gone.
"Looking for this?" He muses, dangling a towel from his fingertips.
I swallow down the lump in the back of my throat and nod. The cold expression on his face is gone and is replaced with something I have been longing for. Suddenly, all of my confidence is gone, and I am afraid.
He is eating up the floor between us while I am frozen in shock. It isn't until his hand rests on the shower door that I snap out of my trance.
He is trying to open it, and I am trying to keep it shut. The push and pull between us grows, and our eyes are locked onto one another. Neither one of us is giving up, even when the glass groans under the pressure.
A loud crack makes me stop fighting, but it is too late. Destin pulls too hard on the door, and it flings open, leaving me exposed in front of him. That could be the worst thing that happens, but it isn't. The door shatters into a million pieces.
"Shit," Destin and I groan at the same time.
I can't move. There is glass everywhere, and while I will heal if I get cut, digging glass out of my feet is not my idea of a fun Friday night. I am so shocked at the turn of events that I don't bother covering myself.
I am studying the floor, trying to figure out my next move when Destin lifts me out of the shower. Electricity spreads over my skin, and I can't stop the heat building between my legs. But he doesn't want this or me. I shake the feeling from myself and turn my head.
"You can put me down," I whisper.
He holds me tighter and nuzzles his nose into my hair. "No. I am tired of fighting against this."
"Don't say things you don't mean," I warn him. "I don't deserve to be toyed with."
Without letting go of me, he takes me into his bedroom. He sits me on his bed and kneels in front of me. His hands are resting on my knees, and I can't take my eyes off them.
"Kitten," he whispers. "Look at my left arm."
My eyes drag up his arm, and I gasp loudly. Symbols and runes appear to be freshly etched into his skin. I have seen these before on my brothers and Macy. They are a sign that he has accepted our bond.
I look at my arms, and my right arm has the same pattern. I am too shocked to be giddy with excitement. All I can think about is my Father's many, many lectures about tattoos.
"My parents are going to flip out," I whisper.
"Please don't bring up your parents when I am in between your legs," Destin whispers.
Instantly, my attention is back on him. His fingers are making circles on my knees, and the electricity between us is getting stronger. I pull my bottom up between my teeth to stop from moaning.
"We can take things slow," he misreads my expression.
"There is no need," I breathe out. "I am not a virgin."
A scowl tugs at his lips, but I can tell he isn't actually mad. "Is that so?"
His hand is in between my thighs, and his fingers are circling my entrance. Goddess, I have waited for this moment, and now he is teasing me.
"It was before I met you," I whimper.
A finger thrusts inside me. "I will have to wipe the memories from your mind."
My back hits the bed, and Destin hovers over me. His movements are slow and punishing, and I am writhing shamelessly under him.
I reach for his pants, but he manages to inch just out of reach.
"Don't tease me," I beg.
"Kitten," his tone is even. "I haven't even begun to tease you."
The thumb of his other hand presses down on my clit, and my whole body shakes.
"I have been waiting a year for you," I say with a shaky breath. "It isn't fair."
"And you assume I haven't been pining after you?" He leans down and takes my nipple into his mouth. He bites down gently before blowing across the wet skin. "Every time the hairs on the back of your neck stood up, and you felt like you were being watched, it was because I was watching you. I have followed you and watched your every move. I was desperate to have you."
His admission should make me angry. I should push him off me and demand that he take me home. But I don't. Like the love-sick girl that I am, I wrap my arms around his neck and pull him closer to me. We are nose to nose before his lips crash into mine.
