Macy POV
The morning air hits my face as I fling open the palace door. The sun has yet to rise, but the sky is a pale shade of pink. I rest my hands on my knees, trying to catch my breath.
'If you leave, Roland wins,' my creature's voice whispers in my mind.
I don't respond to her. I am not sure I want to admit that she is a part of me, but she is right. I can't let Roland win. Not even in death. I am not running away. Not this time.
I square my shoulders and turn on my heels, shutting the door behind me. Cassian is waiting for me by the staircase. "I am going to bed," he grunts. "I suggest you do the same."
"We need to talk about this," I tell him.
"There is nothing to say," he replies. "He was a terrible old man, and you probably did the realm a favor."
I remain steadfast. I have hurt Cassian deeply since coming to this realm. He must trust me if this war is to be favorable.
"But I didn't do you a favor. He was your father. Because of me, you have lost the only family you have ever known. Arabella, Destin, and now Roland. I am sorry."
"I accept your apology," he sighs. "But I still have Nyx. She has always been a great friend."
His eyes twinkle slightly when he mentions her name. "She has been more than a friend," I tell him. "Do not keep her at arm's length. She gave up so much for you."
"I do not wish to speak about my love life with my granddaughter," he rolls his eyes.
"Do as you please," I shrug. "Am I welcome back into the palace?"
"You are," he confirms. "Just don't kill anyone else."
Crossing my arms over my chest, I glare at him. "Don't make stupid decisions and I won't have reason to. I don't know how to control the Gray Creature within me yet. She is much more volatile than having Nyx in my mind. When she takes over, I can't hold her back."
Cassian looks me over before he ascends the stairs. "I will keep that in mind. Do get some sleep. Tomorrow is a big day. You should spend tonight with your mates."
He is gone before I have a chance to thank him for not kicking me out.
I rush down the hallways, anxious to see Edward and Winston. Roland's body has already been moved, and the blood has been cleaned up. I close my eyes as I pass where I killed him. I don't want to think about it. I will think about it later.
When I open the door to my room, Winston practically tackles me to the ground. His nose is nuzzled into my neck, and his chest rumbles with a silent growl.
"Are you okay?" I ask as I pull away from him.
He shakes his head and pulls me close. I glance around the room for Edward in hopes he can translate what Winston is upset about. I don't see him, but the sound of water coming from the bathroom lets me know that's where he is.
I try to pull Winston into the bathroom, but he holds me back. His dark eyes are pleading with me, but I don't understand why.
"Winston, what is happening?"
"They wouldn't let us out of the room," Edward calls from the bathroom. "He thought Roland was murdering you, but I am assuming you killed him instead."
"Why didn't you just kill the guard at the door?" I call out.
"First off," Edward peeks out of the door. "We thought of that, but the doors were sealed with some sort of magic. Secondly, it is really hot when you talk like that."
"I see you don't share Winston's concern for me," I scoff.
"You can turn into one of those creatures," Edward shrugs. "I am not worried about you being killed. I am more concerned about being killed by you."
I don't know whether to be offended or not, but still, I let out a frustrated sigh. Winston doesn't let me dwell on his brother's words. He scoops me into his arms and sits on the bed with me in his lap. It is awkward and uncomfortable with my wings draped over his legs, but I don't move. He needs this.
Edward waltzes out of the bathroom in only a towel. He opens the door to the room and steps through the threshold. "Magic is gone."
"I guess that explains why you didn't come after me when I ran," I mutter.
"You ran?" Edward cocks an eyebrow.
"I came back," I announce the obvious.
"You can't run every time things get hard," Edward snaps.
"I killed someone," I shout. "I can't control her. She is just lying in wait. When someone makes me angry, she emerges like a plague."
Winston continues to nuzzle his face into my neck. The tingles of the mate bond are making it difficult for me to focus on what Edward is saying. His teeth graze against my skin, and a mewl leaves my lips.
"Will you stop doing that?" Edward growls. "We have to talk to her about this."
Winston shakes his head and continues to assault my neck. I giggle as Edward glares at the two of us. With each swipe of his tongue, pressure builds in my core.
"I agree with Winston," I breathe heavily. "I don't want to talk about this."
"What do you want?" Edward asks. He is still irritated, but I don't care. I will do anything to feel both of their hands on me.
"You and Winston," I pant.
Winston's hand travels up my thigh, and I can feel him harden beneath me. Winston is already on board, but Edward seems hesitant.
"Your face is covered in blood," Edward groans.
Winston lifts his head from my neck and examines my face. He shrugs his shoulders, and his hand continues to move beneath my skirts. His thumb brushes against my core, and I spread my legs farther.
I watch Edward behind hooded eyes, and I can see how he is frustrated. He stomps his foot angrily and storms into the bathroom. Returning with a wet cloth in his hand, he gently wipes my face.
"I am not kissing you with blood on your face," he murmurs.
"Whatever," I whisper.
Grabbing the cloth out of his hand, I toss it to the side. Lacing my hands in his hair, I pull him close. Our breath mingles for a second before our lips crash together. Cassian told me to get some sleep, but I don't think that is in the cards for me.
