Olivia Blake
He led me downstairs and we sat in the places we had the night before. Him at the head of the table, relaxed back into his chair as we waited on the meal to be brought out and myself, beside him, tapping my heels together under the table. All I could think about was how weird it was to have people waiting on me that way. a week ago I'd been bringing the meals to the table, now I felt like a sitting duck.
“Don't you want some normal type of living?”
He paused, after sipping the beer that was sat out for him. “What do you mean?”
“I mean, they do everything for us.” It felt weird as soon as I said it, referring to this situation as us when in reality it was still his house – I wasn't his – yet, as he liked to put it.
“The staff?” He seemed confused about the subject and I realized, this must've not been a new concept for him.
“Yeah, duh--”
His chin dropped and his eyes ignited. I shut my mouth quickly and tried to recover from my mouthy comment. Of course, that then begged the question of how well he had trained me in such a short amount of time and we hadn't even gone over anything really!
“I mean, can't you cook?”
He smiled. “Yes.”
I cocked an eyebrow, if he could – why did people wait on him….
“I'll cook for you one day to prove it. For now, we keep the house staff. at least until I see a serious improvement in your wife and mothering skills.”
“Excuse me?” I snapped.
He put his beer down after glancing at the label. “Olivia, I don't have time to cook and do household chores. I'm already seriously behind on work, there was a slight fall in timber sales prior to my position that I need to address and I have a stack of twenty or so requests to join Silvermoon - that I haven't even touched, mostly because I've been chasing you around. So, unless it becomes your need to play house in the future, the staff stays.”
“No one made you chase me around,” I snarked and grabbed the water in front of me. “How come I don't get anything to drink?”
“You're eighteen.” His voice had grown snarly. five minutes ago he'd been all touchy on our descent down the stairs, now I could almost see the smoke coming from his ears again.
“Do you have a thing for rules? Do they turn you on--” I stopped my snotty mouth as the cook wanted in with two plates of steaming hot lasagna. It looked awesome, much better than anything I could whip up – maybe Wyler had a point here....
“Thank you.” He said to her as she nodded and left, leaving us alone again. Taking up his fork, he gave me a good look over. “I understand you enjoy pissing me off, but that's only because you haven't gotten a real punishment. Break the rules, Olivia, and find out on your accord.”
I poked my food and tried not to giggle. “Kay, Alpha.”
He sighed, giving me a look.
A part of me was terrified to test him and be subject to a real punishment – whatever that meant, so I apologized. “I was joking.”
He smirked, bringing a forkful of food to his mouth. “I've only had one sub like you before and she was much better behaved.”
My heart thudded upon the comment, curiosity and anger getting to me. “Don't you have to agree to be someone's sub and what do you mean like me?”
“Though in most circumstances, agreeing is part of the natural course of this type of relationship, you just seem to like jumping in head first. Wet panties and thinking of my cock much more than you should are a couple tell-tale signs of a woman wanting to be my sub.”
“Argh.” I muttered between bites of my food. “That mind reading thing is annoying.”
He smiled. “I really don't find it that inconvenient.”
“You wouldn't. But really, why is it I've heard nothing from you since that day at the pack meeting?”
“You heard me?” He seemed interested.
“Yeah, pissed off about me high-tailing it.”
He chuckled, his eyes looking over me with that same look he got when I was turning him on. “I was reasonably angry and it's because I'm quiet in my mind. You're like a damn pup, chatting to yourself with every exciting experience.”
I wanted to drop my head into my food from the sheer honesty of that explanation. It had to be true, he was so calm and in control – there I was, at his damn mercy every minute of the damn day. I was ready to change the subject. “Who was this other girl? Wait – how many other girls have there been?”
For once, I had Caleb in a squeeze. he hesitated like I had his nuts in a vice grip and answered me similarly. “Eight.”
My mouth dropped, I couldn't have heard that right. “Eight?”
“Four were slaves – that I did some very nasty things to, three were nicely mannered submissive wolves in need of some redirection and one, was similar to you – but much less bratty.”
I smiled. “Too bad for her.”
“Yes, maybe if she'd had more of your will power she wouldn't have as easily accepted what happened to her.”
I was stunned, my sarcasm had hit against me. “What happened to her?”
He fell silent with a grunt and started to eat again.
“Caleb?”
“Never mind,” his voice went to a curt understanding of shut the fuck up.
I sighed. For a moment, our conversation had been almost normal, almost... I went silent the rest of the meal, because I'd shut up Caleb in a whole new way – no anger, just some understated silence that drove me crazy. Who had the girl been? Had she died? Murdered? I gulped as my brain raced with possibilities. Though he was into so many wonky things, I still saw he had a conscience – somewhere. Obviously, the girl had meant something to him...
“Did you love her?”
His eyes slowly peeled up to me. “I'm unsure what love feels like, but if I have to equate exactly what I think it feels like – then no.”
“Well, what does it feel like?”
“An urge to protect someone no matter the outcome.”
“You didn't want to protect her, or couldn't?”
“Olivia,” he growled.
The frustration associated with him was intense. He could drill me as much as he wanted, but when it came to digging him open – I got nothing. “There's a difference, you know... not being able to--”
He smacked his hand to the table and I went rigid. “I fucked her and now, she's gone. All that matters.”
I sighed, accepting he was going to stay mute on the subject. “What's for dessert?”
He leaned back in his chair and stared at me. “You are.”
It made me choke, but in a real good way.
“What do you want for dessert, babygirl?” He melted me from the way his voice had started to roll out of his chest again. he'd quickly moved on from our rocky conversation.
I couldn't get the comment out, so instead I went red and drank water.
“Answer the question.”
What left my lips, was likely not what he'd been expecting but I had to say it. “A kiss.”
Caleb's breath even stopped upon the realization of my request. any sort of kiss meant romance and I wasn't sure he could be capable of it. I took his stiffness as a rejection, which meant that night, I'd be doing what he wanted – no kisses involved.
He reached forward suddenly and took my hand that had been quivering against the table upon my needy request. Did I really want to kiss Caleb Wyler? My alpha. Silvermoon's Alpha...
“Patience, Olivia.” He didn't smile when he said it, instead he looked like he was turning a plan and it made me antsy. What did that even mean? Today? Tomorrow? Four weeks from now? How long did I have to wait to have a kiss from him!
The cook walked in as my mind reeled. “Are you finished?”
“Yes, I think so.” Caleb sat back, letting our grip slip.
“Ice cream?”
My eyes flashed to his and he smirked.
He cleared his throat and stood, passing her his plate. “On the couch tonight, I'm thinking.”
“Yes, sir...” She scooped up our plates and left.
“Not going to run off to the bedroom tonight, are you?” He asked, holding out his hand for me to take.
I didn't give him mine just yet. “Well, are you watching basketball again?”
He thought for a moment. “What do you want to watch?”
“Netflix?”
He sighed. “Really?”
“Oh, I guess Alphas don't netflix and chill I totally get it, too much fun involved.”
His brow creased and he yanked me up on my feet as I giggled. “Not enough fun involved, actually.”
I stepped into him, with some weird surge of confidence and said, “I can make it fun for you.”
He watched me slide against him and he smiled slowly. whatever had possessed me was going to backfire, because he called me on it. “Deal. Come.”
