Hanna sat frozen, her phone in her hand, her heart racing as she read the message. The words blurred on the screen as a cold wave of dread washed over her.
Unknown Number: You may have taken Ciara down, but you’re not safe. Watch your back.
Hanna’s pulse quickened, her mind immediately flashing back to all the times she had been threatened before. First, it had been Ciara—her manipulations, her lies—but now, it seemed like a new player was involved. A new danger that was just as threatening, if not more.
She sat on her bed for what felt like an eternity, staring at the message, unsure of what to do next. She thought, after everything with Ciara, she would finally find peace. But instead, it felt like she was just getting deeper into a game that she couldn’t escape.
Her phone buzzed again, but this time, it was from Emily.
Emily: You okay?
Hanna stared at the text, her fingers hovering over the screen as she typed back.
Hanna: I think someone’s trying to mess with me again. Got a message from an unknown number.
She waited for Emily to reply, but the seconds dragged by like hours. Her thoughts spun in every direction. Who was behind this new threat? Was it Ciara’s doing, or had someone else taken over the role of tormentor?
Just then, her phone buzzed again, this time with a call from Finn.
Her heart skipped a beat, and she answered quickly. “Hey,” she said, trying to keep her voice steady.
“Hey,” Finn’s voice was calm but laced with concern. “You okay? You’ve been distant all day.”
Hanna hesitated, unsure of whether or not to tell him the truth. She didn’t want to drag him into this mess again. He’d been through so much already.
“I’m fine,” she lied, forcing a smile into her voice. “Just a little tired. You know, the usual.”
Finn didn’t seem convinced. “Hanna,” he said, his tone serious, “what’s going on? You’re not fooling me. I know something’s off.”
Her heart wavered. She couldn’t keep the truth from him forever. “It’s… someone messaged me. An unknown number. They said I’m not safe. That I need to watch my back.”
There was a long pause on the other end of the line, and when Finn spoke again, his voice was low, controlled. “I’m coming over.”
“No,” Hanna said quickly. “I’ll be fine. It’s probably just someone trying to mess with me.”
“You don’t know that,” Finn shot back. “I don’t care if you think it’s nothing. I’m coming over. You’re not alone in this, Hanna.”
His words gave her a sense of comfort, but the fear still gnawed at her. This new threat wasn’t something she could ignore. It wasn’t just about Ciara anymore—it was something bigger, something darker.
She couldn’t help but wonder: Who else had been watching her all along? And what did they want?
The doorbell rang just as she was about to respond to Finn’s last message. She rushed downstairs, her breath catching when she saw him standing there, a determined look on his face.
Without a word, she opened the door, letting him in. He stepped inside, looking around the living room before his gaze landed on her.
“I’m not leaving until I know you’re okay,” he said firmly.
Hanna nodded silently, appreciating his presence more than she could express. “I’m glad you’re here,” she whispered.
Finn walked over to her and placed a hand on her shoulder, squeezing it gently. “We’ll figure this out. Together.”
Hanna let out a breath she didn’t realize she’d been holding. For the first time in days, she felt a small flicker of hope. But deep down, she knew the battle was far from over. Someone was still out there, pulling the strings, waiting for the right moment to strike.
And this time, the stakes were higher than ever.
