My Sexy Boss

Chapter 48: Fired

Ch. 48 / 138 Sep 17, 2024

"ARE YOU allowed to drink tonight?" Jeff asked me, but his gaze flew to Rexon.

I laughed at his question. "Of course, I do! I would love to drink." Then my gaze crossed to Rexon, who was just leaning forward on the couch.

"She can't drink. Give her a root beer instead," he said, and he slightly raised the glass he was holding.

"Come on, Rex, let's her enjoy the night," Skye replied.

"Why, isn't she enjoying herself already?" He gave me a crudely insulting stare.

I wait for Jeff to say something, but he does not. Damn! Why were they so afraid of this man?! I wrapped my palms tightly over my thighs and held my breath for a while before thinking of what to say.

"I'm fine here, thanks." My hands gripped the bottle then raised my eyes to him. We stared at each other for what seemed like a second until he finally dropped his gaze.

I sipped the beer as if the sweetness had exploded in my mouth. I glanced at Jeff, who held up his whiskey glass to me.

"Cheers?"

I smiled slightly and shook the bottle from his glass, but what worried me the most was that he almost hugged me. I stiffened my back at the couch and tried to avoid his hand on my shoulder.

Everyone has their own topic and conversation while I was being sealed in my seat.

"When will your contract with Rexon expire?" I was surprised by Jeff's question.

"Huh? What contract?"

He was shocked by my reaction. So I frowned and turned my gaze to Rexon, who was now talking to Candice next to him.

"I mean, the contract, how long will you serve as his P.A.? Any guess?"

I shook my head repeatedly. "I haven't signed the contract yet." I looked at him. "Why are you asking, by the way?"

He could not answer immediately because he first drained the contents of his glass before grinning. "This is unbelievable," he said.

I got puzzled. I don't know what he's saying. Rexon hired me without signing a contract. I thought that was all right.

"So, I can break the rules if I want?"

Again, I couldn't answer because I suddenly felt something strange in his eyes. Now I realized how much I was leaning on his shoulders.

"Jeff, I don't understand," I said emphatically.

"We had rules. What belongs to him, only belongs to him. What mine is mine. It's forbidden to fall in love. It's forbidden to flirt. It's forbidden to take her to bed and most of all, it's forbidden to play." His lips quirked upward in a joyous smile. "In short, invincible," he finally said before sipping his wine.

I swallowed at what he said and quickly grabbed the bottle of root beer and drank it.

"In that case, I can court you," he declared.

That's where I choked, I coughed repeatedly, and Jeff rubbed my back.

"Hey, are you alright?"

"Jeff, I'm just his personal assistant, that's all," I pronounced.

"Better yet, there won't be a problem with him." His face even moved to me, and now I can smell his breath of alcohol.

I can't answer. I couldn't find an answer to his question. I was preoccupied with what he said. What should I respond? Is it right to say I'm not ready yet? I don't want to be a hypocrite. So, in the end, I chose not to speak.

After all, he doesn't seem serious about what he said because he was now talking to another woman sitting next to him.

I just chose to focus on the root beer in front of me. No one even talked to me. They were all busy. It doesn't seem to matter that I'm here at this table.

I glanced at Devon's table. They were laughing loudly. It looked like they were enjoying it. Porsche was now dancing in front of them. I also couldn't help but flew my gaze to Rexon.

It looks like he's drunk based on how he rolls his eyes and smiles even when he doesn't say anything. My eyebrows rose because Candice seemed to be taking advantage of him like a leech.

Until I feel like I need to take a pee. I stood up and was slightly supported by Jeff.

"Do you want me to go with you?" he asked.

"No, I'm fine, Jeff," I refused. I also tried to turn my back on him and quickly walked into the comfort room hallway. The hallway was dark, but it was easy for me to reach the comfort room since I wasn't drunk.

Maybe it's better if I just go back to Devon's table. It looks like they won't notice in case I'm not there anymore.

I adjusted myself for a moment and looked at the dress again before leaving. But my feet were numb as I walked out of the hallway.

Rexon was there, waiting for me.

I quickly made a grip on the wall out of shock. I would have liked to go back inside the CR, but he was the one who stepped closer to me.

He faced me directly, so I leaned against the wall. He tilted his head a bit and looked straight into my eyes.

"What are you doing here?"

I swallowed when I saw how his brow furrowed as he grinned.

"I just went to the comfort room," I said.

"I know! Damn it!" He hit the wall on my side so hard.

My heart almost jumped because of what he did.

"What did I tell you about Jeff?" His baritone voice rumbled down my spine. My legs were shaking, and my lips were parted. It was as if I wanted to get on my knees because my heart was pounding.

"I'm not doing anything wrong," I answered calmly.

"Isn't that right? I just left you in the suite earlier, but have you been able to date someone else? And now you're flirting with my best friend?!" He gripped my two shoulders so tight that I could not move. The hallway was dark, so he can hurt me if he wants to.

"You said that my job is done and I can do whatever want. So what's your problem?" I forced myself to answer even though I could feel the tightness of his grip on me.

"Yeah, and you know what?!" He let go of me before continuing. "You're fired!"

My eyelids seemed to grow cold. I haven't shivered since hearing what he said. I also feel like there's a stone in my chest, and I can't breathe.

He's been gone for a few minutes, but my heartbeat was still not returning to normal. Gradually, my tears began to fall, which I could not hold back.

Sometimes it's not the butterflies that tell you you're in love-it's the pain.
