POV Luella

I woke before dawn in the royal chambers I shared with Kyrell, watching my husband sleep peacefully beside me. For the first time since I'd known him, his face was completely relaxed, free from the defensive tension that had once never left him.

A year ago, he barely slept at all. Now he rests like he finally feels safe.

The nightmares that had plagued him for years had gradually faded through months of patient love and security. Watching him now, I could hardly believe this was the same man who had once terrorized me with cruel words and mind games.

Our kingdom had flourished under the co-rule we'd established. My diplomatic wisdom balanced with Kyrell's strategic brilliance had created a new form of governance where decisions were made through partnership rather than autocracy.

The morning brought our usual stack of reports, but today carried special significance. Lord Aldrich's message confirmed what we'd been working toward for months—the last corrupt lord had lost his power.

"Good news?" Kyrell asked, his voice rough with sleep as he read over my shoulder.

"The best," I replied, showing him the report. "Lord Brennan was stripped of his titles last night. The investigation found evidence of three separate bribery schemes."

We'd also established new laws protecting citizens from magical manipulation, ensuring no one else would suffer the artificial bonds and mind control that had nearly destroyed our love story.

During our private breakfast, Kyrell teased me about my latest political project. "More schools for teaching young people about psychological manipulation? You're going to run out of teachers."

"Better to run out of teachers than to have more victims," I replied, stealing a piece of fruit from his plate.

Kyrell caught my wrist gently, pressing a kiss to my palm. "My fierce little reformer. Still trying to save the world."

Our conversation was interrupted when Lady Celeste burst into our chambers with a scroll clutched in her hands, her face glowing with excitement.

"Your Majesties," she said breathlessly, "the royal physician's report—"

I took the scroll with trembling fingers, scanning the formal language until I found the words that made my heart stop.

"The examination confirms that Her Majesty is with child, approximately six weeks along."

Pregnant. I'm pregnant.

Through our mate bond, I felt Kyrell's overwhelming joy and wonder crash into me. His black eyes went wide as he processed what this meant.

"A baby," he whispered, his voice filled with awe. "We're going to have a baby."

I placed my hand over my still-flat stomach, marveling at the miracle of it.

After Celeste left us alone with our news, we made our way to the private balcony overlooking the kingdom we'd healed through our partnership. The sun was rising over lands that were prosperous and peaceful, ruled by people who had chosen each other freely.

Kyrell pulled me close, his arms wrapping around me from behind as we looked out over our realm.

"Do you ever wonder what would have happened if—" he started softly.

"If what? If you hadn't tried so hard to make me hate you?" I said, leaning back against his chest with a smile in my voice.

He laughed, the sound rumbling through his chest. "I was going to say if you'd given up on me."

"Never crossed my mind."

"Liar." His arms tightened around me. "I tried everything to make you hate me."

"I know. You were terrible at it." I turned my head to catch his eye. "Lucky for you, I'm stubborn."

"The most stubborn woman I've ever met," he murmured, pressing a kiss to my temple. "Thank god for that."

Our enemies-to-lovers journey had created not just personal happiness but a new model of leadership that was already influencing other realms. Letters arrived weekly from neighboring kingdoms asking for advice on implementing joint rule and partnership-based governance.

As I felt our child growing inside me and looked out over the kingdom we'd transformed together, I realized this was what happiness actually felt like. Not the artificial contentment of drugged bonds, but the deep satisfaction of building something meaningful with someone who truly saw and valued you.

Kyrell's hand settled over mine on my stomach, and through our mate bond, I felt his determination to be the father he'd never had—patient, loving, protective without being controlling.

"What are you thinking about?" he asked, sensing my contentment through our connection.

"I'm thinking," I said, turning in his arms to face the man who had become my equal partner in everything, "that we're going to need a bigger balcony."

His laugh was rich with joy and promise, and I knew that whatever challenges lay ahead, we would face them as we had faced everything else—together, as equals, as partners who had chosen each other through the worst circumstances and emerged stronger.

This is what real love stories look like. Not perfect romance, but two people who make each other better.
