My Cruel Alpha

chapter 29

Ch. 29 / 30 May 06, 2026

POV Luella

The great cathedral looked completely different from the last time I'd stood here. Months ago, I had entered this space as a nervous political bride meeting Tobias for the first time. Now, I stood at the altar as a woman who had chosen her own path, her own mate, her own destiny.

The ancient traditions had been rewritten to accommodate two equal monarchs. Instead of one crown, there were two—each bearing half of the original crown jewels to symbolize shared power rather than hierarchy.

We're not king and queen. We're co-rulers, partners in everything.

Kyrell stood beside me in his ceremonial robes, his black eyes warm with love and wonder. Through our mate bond, I could feel his amazement that this was really happening—that we were here, alive, together, and free.

He never thought he deserved happiness. But he's learning.

The cathedral was packed with nobility from across the kingdom and beyond. Foreign dignitaries who had come expecting to see a weakened realm instead observed something that made them distinctly uncomfortable—raw power radiating from two people who had found their perfect match.

They can feel our bond. The strength of it. It makes us more formidable, not less.

High Priest Luca began the ceremony with words that had been specially written for this occasion. "We gather today to witness not just a coronation, but a marriage. Not just the joining of two people, but the foundation of a new kind of rule."

A rule based on partnership, not domination.

When the moment came for our vows, Kyrell spoke first, his voice carrying clearly through the vast space.

"I promise to be your partner in all things," he said, his black eyes never leaving mine. "To challenge you when you need it, to support you when you falter, and to choose you every day for the rest of my life."

My own vows came from the heart. "I promise to see all of you—the darkness and the light—and love every part. To stand beside you, not behind you, and to build something stronger together than either of us could alone."

This is what I was looking for all along. Not someone to complete me, but someone to stand with me.

As the crowns were placed on our heads in that very moment, I felt our mate bond deepen and strengthen.

The crown feels right. Not because I was born for it, but because we earned it together.

The wedding feast that followed was unlike anything the kingdom had seen. The great hall buzzed with celebration, not the forced politeness of political events.

People are actually happy. They believe in us.

Midway through the feast, Kyrell stood and called for silence. I knew what he was about to do, and I squeezed his hand in support.

"Before we continue celebrating," he said, his voice carrying to every corner of the hall, "I need to address something."

This is brave. So much braver than staying silent.

"Many of you have been hurt by my actions over the years," Kyrell continued. "I was cruel, vindictive, and I caused real harm to real people. I won't insult you by making excuses, but I want you to understand what happened."

"My brother systematically tortured and manipulated me from childhood, shaping me into the weapon he needed—someone so feared and hated that no one would believe my word against his. I became cruel because cruelty was the only defense I was taught."

The truth. Final and the complete truth.

"But trauma is an explanation, not an excuse," he said firmly. "I hurt people, and those actions were mine to own. I'm sorry. I'll spend the rest of my reign making amends for the harm I caused."

The response from the crowd was immediate—respect. Understanding. Hope that people could change and grow.

They're starting to see him as I do. Someone who survived something terrible and is choosing to be better.

I stood beside him, my presence a silent statement of support. This was what true love meant—accepting someone's past while helping them build a better future.

Lord Lexter rose from his seat, his weathered face serious. "Your Majesty speaks with wisdom and courage. The kingdom needs leaders who understand both darkness and light."

Even the nobles who once feared him are willing to give him a chance. For three days of celebration they watched a man changed by love.

The celebration felt different from other royal events I'd heard about. The joy was genuine, the hope was real.

On the third day, as foreign ambassadors prepared to return to their kingdoms, the Avelinian representative approached us with obvious reluctance.

"Your Majesties," she said with a deep bow, "my king instructed me to assess the strength of your realm after the recent... upheavals. I must report that he has gravely underestimated the situation."

They came thinking we'd be weak and divided. Instead they found us stronger than before.

"How so?" I asked politely.

"A kingdom ruled by two people who trust and support each other is far more stable than one ruled by fear and manipulation," she replied. "Your bond is... visible. It spreads power in a way that authority never could."

Our love is our strength. And everyone can see it.

I felt Kyrell's quiet satisfaction. We had proven that partnership was stronger than any crown or title.

As the last of the celebration wound down and we finally had a moment alone, Kyrell took my hands in his.

"No regrets?" he asked, though I saw in hi eyes that he already knew the answer.

Never. Not about choosing him, not about the path that brought us here.

"Only one," I said, smiling at his look of surprise. "That it took us so long to figure out we belonged together."

"We found each other when we were ready," he said, pulling me close. "Everything before was just... preparation."

He's right. I needed to become strong enough to choose freely. He needed to heal enough to accept love.

Looking out over our kingdom from the castle balcony, I felt a deep sense of rightness about our future. We would face challenges, certainly. But we would face them together, as equals, as partners who had chosen each other through the worst circumstances and emerged stronger.

This is just the beginning. Our real story starts now.
