My Alpha's Mark

156 Sides

Ch. 156 / 206 Jan 27, 2026

Kacie

The three of us sat on the bed. None of us had said anything after. We dried off and got ready for bed in silence. Jake was still upset and I was upset that he had followed me and the girls. I was frustrated that he was upset. Viktor sat crossed legged in gray sweats and a tank. His hair was still wet but wasn’t drenched. He lifted a towel and proceeded to dry his hair. My mouth watered as I stared at his biceps. Jake sat at the edge of the bed, his back was to me as he stared off into space. I know we needed to talk but I didn’t know how to start. The space between us kept growing and he kept getting far away.

I wanted to reach out and wrap my legs around him but I didn’t want to apologize. I hadn’t done anything wrong and I couldn’t figure out what was going on in his head. I watched as Viktor threw his legs over the edge and stood up. He walked over to the hamper and threw the towel in it. When he turned back to the two of us on the bed he crossed his arms.

“Are we going to talk about this or are we going to go to bed angry?” Viktor asked.

“What’s there to talk about? I don’t understand why he’s angry. He’s the one that followed me like a child needing supervision!” I said.

“It’s a good thing I did,” Jake said. He didn’t turn to look at me, he didn’t even move. “If I hadn’t followed you what could have happened?”

“I would have taken care of myself! I’m an adult and Luna. If it really got serious I could have taken care of myself,” I sighed. I shook my head. He was seriously trying to justify his actions when he already admitted he was wrong.

“I know you are Luna but I’m also your Beta. It’s my job to worry about your safety. That’s not something I can stop doing just because you say you don’t need me. I need to know that you’re okay. I need to know that you’re safe. I need to watch over you. It’s in my DNA, Kace,” Jake said.

“I told you I was fine before I left with the girls and I specifically told you I don’t need anyone to come with me. You disobeyed me! You ignored what I wanted and you took it upon yourself to do the exact opposite of what I asked. Because we’re sleeping together you think that you can tell me what to do and ignore my orders?” I asked.

“Is that all we are? Are we just sleeping together?” Jake asked. “You’re not only my Luna, and it’s not like you’re just some fuck buddy. You’re more. You’re not just the woman I have to protect. You’re one of the loves of my life.”

“Does that mean you can just ignore me and disregard what I ask?” I asked. Tears pricked my eyes and I stared up at the ceiling. I blinked wildly to try and stop the tears from falling. Jake was still faced away from me and it only made me angry.

Why wasn’t he looking at me?

Why wasn’t he giving me the decency of looking into my eyes while we talked?

“I didn’t mean to disregard what you said. I didn’t meant to ignore you, Kace. I just… I was scared. I was afraid that I’d lose you,” Jake said.

“Why would you lose me? How? The witches? Do you still suspect them? They don’t have to be here. They don’t have to help me. Have you forgotten that I’m one of them? I’m a witch Jake. I’m one of the things you despise and hate. Do you hate me? Do I disgust you?” I spat.

“Kacie,” Viktor started.

“No,” I said. I stared at him. “No. You weren’t there,” I said dismissing him.

Viktor looked back and forth between the two of us. This was our first real fight and it made me feel sick. I hated how this made me feel. What could Viktor say? What was he going to say? Was he going to choose Jake’s side? Would he be on my side? Or would he just sit back and let us work through it? I hoped he would leave it to us to figure out. I don’t think I could handle it if he picked Jake. I don’t know if I could keep being with them if he chose him and not me. When did this happen? When were there sides? When were Jake and I on opposite sides?

I turned from him and stared at Jake’s back. I swear if he didn’t turn around I was going to go crazy. Jake turned around and tears rolled down his cheeks. I felt his emotion, I felt his pain but I couldn’t stop. I was angry. I don’t know why and I don’t think I could stop it. I wouldn’t hold my tongue for him. I wouldn’t put my feelings aside for him because of his feelings. I wouldn’t ignore how I felt so that he could feel better. That didn’t seem fair and it didn’t seem logical.

“I wasn’t thinking… I-My wolf and I both wanted to protect you. I couldn’t… I couldn’t…” Jake trailed off. “I don’t care what you are, Kacie. Wolf, were-bear, siren, human… or witch.” He reached for me but I moved back. He froze and lowered his hand. Jake took a deep breath and continued. “Is that all I am to you? Am I just someone you sleep with? Am I only your Beta? Am I just someone who is below you?” Jake asked. “I don’t hate you. I could never hate you.” Jake stared at me hopefully but when he didn’t find what he hoped for in my gaze, he lowered his eyes to the bed.
