149 Help

Ch. 149 / 206 Jan 27, 2026

The music cut and screaming filled the club. People on the dance floor were either running, backing up slowly, or frozen in fear unable to look away from the carnage. Blood oozed down his body while it spurted in other areas. A sickening thud announced the dropping of a head and Jake lifted his chin. Our eyes locked while the world around us spun out of control. A cool hand landed on my shoulder and I turned to find Nyx behind me.

“Don’t feel bad for him. He was in the wrong here,” Nyx said.

She was trying to comfort me. Her words were meant to be one of comfort, but all I could think about was the fact that he would still be alive if I had stuck to my schedule. Did I regret coming here with the girls? No. I was able to see another side of Clara because of it. Not just the usual cold mask she always presented to the world.

I turned to find Jake as he got to his feet. He ran his fingers through his hair and pushed it back. The anger in his eyes was still there. The life he just took still didn’t appease it. Jake is angry but I’m starting to question what is fueling it. Is it because I didn’t go where I was supposed to, because I’m with the witches, because the guy stepped up to me, or because he touched Clara? I’m not sure how I feel about that last possibility.

“A bit far Jake, don’t you think?” Clara asked. She tipped her head to the side in a taunting manner. “We’re big girls. We can handle ourselves.”

“I could care less about you. You put my Luna in danger,” Jake spat.

“I think we all know she was never in any real danger. She could have barbecued him with just a thought. If you hadn’t interrupted I would have taken care of it myself. I was seconds away from making him fly,” Clara pouted.

“You’re a loose cannon,” Jake said.

“That’s funny coming from you. Who killed who? Who just decapitated someone on the dance floor? I’m not the loose cannon, Jake. You are,” Clara singsonged. Not the least bit fazed by his anger.

“You don’t belong here,” Jake growled. “None of you do. This,” Jake points around at where we are, “is because of you. You’re nothing but trouble and I was right to want someone to tag along.”

“We all knew you were tagging along,” Clara said. “Well, minus Kacie. The difference is that we didn’t care. It’s not our fault you can’t keep your eyes off of us.”

“Watch it,” Jake warned as he took a step closer to Clara.

“Or what?” Clara asked lifting her chin and glaring back at him. “You’ll behead us? Did I say something that hit too close to home? ” Clara laughed. “I’d love to see you try wolf boy.”

“Jake,” I said as I reached out to touch him. He didn’t move away but kept his eyes on Clara.

“What were you doing here? What was the point of coming here of all places?” Jake asked. Before I could answer Clara spoke up.

“What does it look like? We were trying to catch a break but you had to swoop in and assert your male dominance,” Clara said.

“I don’t believe you. Kacie?” Jake asked as he turned to face me.

“Didn’t you hear me?” Clara asked.

“I wasn’t asking you,” Jake spat.

“We’ll I’m answering wolf-boy!” Clara yelled. “We were trying to enjoy ourselves, we had a chat, and Kacie here was helping me with… an issue. Weren’t you, Kacie?” Clara asked.

She batted her eyes and slightly swayed. She smiled at me and Jake eyed her suspiciously but Clara didn’t bat an eye. Her smile widened as she turned back to him and stared right back. We were way too intoxicated to be having this talk.

“What issue?” Jake asked.

I could feel Nyx’s gaze as it trailed over the three of us. Silently watching, waiting as the three of us stared each other down. I hadn’t been focused on it but the club was practically empty now. The three of us were standing close, way too close. I could feel the tension in the room.

“What issue, Kacie?” Jake asked as he leaned forward.

I swallowed. How do you tell your partner you were on a dick hunt? I open my lips to answer but the words don’t come out. The sound of a giggle rings in my ears and bounces off the empty club walls. My gaze darts to Clara and I can’t help but join her. We’re giggling and I can hear Nyx sigh behind us.

“You two are shit faced,” Jake said as he shakes his head. “I’m glad the two of you find this funny.”

“I’m sorry,” I wheeze between giggles.

“Why do you have to know everything?” Clara asked. “Can’t a girl have a secret?”

“I don’t care about you or your secrets, witch. All I care about is what my Luna is doing. You just happen to be apart of the problem,” Jake said.

“Jake,” I start.

“No, Kacie. It’s okay. I’ve got this. Jake wants to know about my business because it includes you, or so he keeps telling himself. Let me be the one to air out my laundry,” Clara said as she looked at me with false earnest. “Kacie and I were chatting. We had some girl chat about how sad I’ve been. I’ve been so low even my sisters are getting tired of how much of a downer I’ve been. So I came up with an idea, or a plan if you will. Kacie knew where I was coming from and agreed to help me in my endeavor.”

“Why don’t you just cut the bull shit and tell me what she was helping you with,” Jake said.

“Fine. Asshole,” Clara whispered. “Kacie was helping me get some dick.”
