Chapter 24

Ch. 24 / 255 May 14, 2026

Nora’s POV

The ride back to his apartment feels different.

We left the diner with the sky turning pink at the edges, and somewhere between "we should probably go" and climbing onto his motorcycle, the air between us shifted. Charged. Electric. When I wrapped my arms around him this time, it wasn't just for balance.

"My mom's working the night shift," he said before we left, casual, like it meant nothing. But his eyes told a different story. An invitation. A question.

"Okay," I said. And that was all it took.

Now we're weaving through empty morning streets, the city still asleep, and his hand drifts from the handlebar to rest on my thigh. His thumb traces slow circles through my jeans, and every touch sends sparks shooting up my spine.

"Both hands on the wheel," I say into his ear, trying to sound stern and failing completely. "I'd rather not die before we get there."

He laughs — that rough, warm laugh that makes my stomach flip — and puts his hand back where it belongs. "Yes, ma'am."

But I can feel him smiling. And I can feel the anticipation building between us with every block we pass.

I think about all the nights I lay beside Tristan and felt nothing. The way my body locked up every time he reached for me, every nerve ending screaming wrong, wrong, wrong while my brain insisted I should want this. I spent two years wondering what was broken inside me. Two years thinking I was frigid, defective, incapable of desire.

Now Danny's hand brushes my thigh for three seconds and my whole body comes alive.

Maybe nothing was ever broken. Maybe I just needed the right person.

His apartment building appears too quickly and not quickly enough. He parks the bike, kills the engine, and we sit there for a moment in the sudden silence. My arms are still around him. His hand finds mine, squeezes once.

"You don't have to," he says quietly. "We can just talk. Or I can take you home. Whatever you want."

Whatever I want. There it is again. The question no one else has ever asked.

"I want to come inside," I say. "I want... you."

He exhales like he's been holding his breath. Then he's off the bike, helping me down, leading me up three flights of stairs with his hand warm and steady in mine.

The apartment is dark when we enter. He doesn't turn on the lights. Just stands there in the shadows, looking at me like I'm something precious and terrifying all at once. Asking permission with his eyes. Giving me space to change my mind.

I answer by stepping closer. By pressing my mouth to his. By letting my hands find the hem of his shirt and tugging it upward.

The kiss is nothing like the Love Room. It's better.

Real lips, soft and warm and slightly chapped. Real breath mingling in the dark. Real hands sliding down my back, pulling me closer, fingers splaying across my spine like he's trying to memorize the shape of me. My body responds the way it never did with Tristan — opening instead of closing, wanting instead of freezing, leaning into his touch instead of pulling away.

I gasp against his mouth and feel him smile.

"Bedroom," I manage between kisses. "Now."

We stumble down the hallway, shedding clothes as we go. His shirt hits the floor first. Then mine. His hands find the clasp of my bra, hesitate, wait for my nod before unclipping it. The cool air hits my skin and I shiver — not from cold, but from the way he's looking at me.

"God, Nora." His voice is rough. Reverent. "You're beautiful."

No one has ever said that to me and made me believe it.

We fall onto his bed together, a tangle of limbs and half-removed clothing. He hovers above me, eyes searching my face, giving me one more chance to stop this.

"You sure?"

"I've never been more sure of anything."

He takes his time.

Every touch is deliberate. His mouth traces a path down my throat, my collarbone, the swell of my breasts. He pauses at my nipple, tongue circling, testing my response. When I arch into him, he takes it between his lips and sucks gently, and the sensation shoots straight to my core.

"More," I breathe. "Please."

His hand slides lower. Over my stomach, my hip, the waistband of my underwear. He doesn't rush. Just lets his fingers trail along the edge, maddeningly close to where I need him.

"Danny—"

"Tell me what you want." His voice is low against my ear. "I need to hear you say it."

"Touch me. Please. I need you to touch me."

His fingers slip beneath the fabric and find me wet and aching. I cry out at the first brush against my clit — too loud, probably, but I don't care. His touch is gentle at first, exploratory, learning what makes me gasp and what makes me moan.

"Like this?" he murmurs, circling slowly.

"Yes. God, yes."

He slips a finger inside me, then two, curling them in a way that makes stars explode behind my eyes. His thumb keeps working my clit while he stretches me open, preparing me, reading every response like I'm a book he's been studying for years.

Because in a way, he has. A year of learning my voice, my moods, my tells. A year of knowing me in the dark. Now he's translating all of that into touch.

"I need you," I gasp. "Inside me. Now."

He withdraws his hand — I whimper at the loss — and reaches for his nightstand. Condom. Right. I watch him roll it on, my heart pounding, my body trembling with anticipation.

He positions himself between my legs and pauses. One more look. One more question.

I pull him down and kiss him.

The first press is slow. Gentle. He gives me time to adjust, watching my face for any sign of discomfort. There's pressure, fullness, and then — he's inside me, and everything clicks into place.

"Okay?" he whispers.

"More than okay."

He starts to move. Slow at first, letting me feel every inch, every withdrawal and return. I wrap my legs around his waist, pulling him deeper, and his rhythm falters for just a second before he finds it again.

"Nora." My name sounds like a prayer in his mouth. "You feel incredible."

I can't respond with words. Can only cling to him as the pleasure builds, as his pace quickens, as our bodies find a rhythm that feels like coming home. This is what I was waiting for. This is what my body knew I needed. Not just sex — connection. Trust. Someone who saw me, who knew me, who earned my heart in the dark before asking for my body in the light.

"Close," I gasp. "I'm so close—"

He shifts his angle, hits something inside me that makes me see stars. His hand finds my clit again, rubbing in time with his thrusts, and the dual sensation pushes me over the edge.

I shatter.

The orgasm crashes through me in waves, my whole body convulsing around him. I hear myself crying out — his name, or maybe just wordless sounds of pleasure — and then he's following me over, groaning against my neck as he pulses inside me.

Afterward, we lie tangled together.

My head on his chest. His fingers tracing lazy patterns on my shoulder. Our heartbeats slowly returning to normal, our breathing evening out, the sweat cooling on our skin.

"That was..." I trail off, searching for words.

"Yeah," he agrees. "It was."

I smile against his chest. "Very articulate."

"Shut up. You broke my brain."

A laugh bubbles out of me — genuine, surprised, happy in a way I'm not sure I've ever been. I turn my head and press a kiss to his bare skin.

"I don't want to leave," I admit quietly.

His arms tighten around me. "Then don't."

So I stay.

Wrapped in his sheets, wrapped in his arms, I finally understand what it means to be held by someone who knows exactly who you are.

And chooses you anyway.
