At that moment, Marcus ran in from the doorway.
He held onto Lucas' wheelchair handle and said, "Lucas, Alina is alone in the ward, and you should be with her. I'll send you back."
"Marcus, let go."
Marcus refused to let go. After casting a glance at Connor, he pushed Lucas away.
Annette breathed a sigh of relief and walked over to the sofa to sit down.
Connor stepped forward and rubbed her head.
Annette looked up at him with a bitter smile.
A few minutes later, Marcus came back again.
"Connor, nothing happened just now, did it?"
Connor looked behind Marcus and asked, "Where is Lucas?"
"I had the driver take him away. He is angry now, and I don't want him to yell at me.
"Lucas is going crazy all the time. I think it's best for you and Annette not to meet him for a while."
Annette recalled that it was Marcus who had asked her out yesterday. After Marcus left, she chased after him and shouted, "Marcus, wait! I have something to ask you."
"Go ahead."
"Did Alina ask you to call me out yesterday?"
"Yes," Marcus said, and he also told Connor and Lucas about it.
He told Annette everything Alina had said to him before going to the restaurant.
Annette nodded and she was right about it.
"Who picked the restaurant?"
Marcus answered without hesitation, "Alina. Is there anything wrong?"
Annette said seriously, "So, all you did was ask me out, right?"
Marcus nodded and said, "Yes, Alina said she was already grateful to me if I could help her make an appointment with you. And she would do the rest."
Annette patted his shoulder and said, "Okay, I got it. You can go back now."
After hesitating for a moment, Marcus asked, "Annette, did you push Alina or not?"
Annette stared at him and said, "I'm not crazy. Lucas hated me, and if I did that, wouldn't the situation be worse?"
Marcus agreed. He frowned and thought, 'Did Alina fall on purpose?
Since Alina's and Annette's explanations were completely different, it meant that one of them was lying.
How could it be so complicated?' Marcus shook his head, feeling a headache.
After leaving Connor's place, Marcus suddenly thought of something.
'No, why did Annette ask me those questions?
Is there any problem with that restaurant?'
When Annette walked back to the house, Connor was talking to Dwayne.
As Annette came in, Connor waved his hand and said to Dwayne, "Okay, go ahead."
Dwayne nodded and left.
Connor asked, "What did you say to Marcus?"
"Nothing." Annette pursed her lips and sat down next to Connor.
Connor said, "I just told Dwayne to clean up the seaside villa. After he arranges everything, we can go there to stay for a few days."
Annette asked, "Do you plan to avoid Lucas for a while?"
"Whatever I say to Lucas now, he won't listen. I'm not avoiding him, and I just want to avoid conflicts with him."
Annette nodded and said, "I'll listen to you."
Connor was surprised.
"Why are you so sweet today?"
"I know you do it for me."
Connor rubbed Annette's head and said, "It's nice that you know it."
Annette tightened her lips.
She had just seen Lucas' angry face.
Lucas didn't believe her explanation. Annette could only wait for his anger to subside before talking to him.
On the first night Annette and Connor arrived at the seaside villa. She enjoyed the sea breeze and felt at peace.
Connor walked to the beach and wrapped her with a blanket.
Annette turned to look at him, and they smiled at each other.
Connor asked, "Aren't you cold?"
Annette shrugged and said, "A little."
"Then let's go back. Aren't you afraid of catching a cold?"
Annette smiled, "The sea at night is so peaceful. I feel so relaxed."
Connor put his arm around her shoulder and said, "If you like it here, we can come here more often."
Annette felt a bit cold and smiled, "Let's go. Let's go back to the house. It's cold outside."
They thought that moving to the seaside villa could avoid running into Lucas.
However, Connor seemed to have underestimated Lucas.
The next day at noon, Lucas came again.
He looked at Connor and Annette, his face full of sarcasm. "Do you think you can run away from me? Connor, as long as you didn't give up on her, I would never let you two stay in peace."
Connor could no longer contain his anger.
He pushed Lucas's wheelchair out of the house.
Annette watched the scene and did not stop Connor.
After Lucas was pushed out of the villa, Connor said coldly, "Lucas, don't make a scene. If you weren't my elder brother, I wouldn't have let you off so easily."
"Is that so? Then you can give it a try."
Connor bent down and looked Lucas in the eye, his gaze sharp.
"You trust Alina, but I don't. Do you know why?"
