third person's POV
In the office area, the employees who used to suck up to Melinda all put little snacks in front of Vanya.
"Vanya, we were all blind before, please don't take it to heart."
"Yeah, yeah, actually I really liked you, but Melinda and Sabrina didn't let us talk to you!"
"You looked so good, Cliff really had no taste, how could he have liked that Melinda..."
Vanya didn't feel anything about these friendly gestures.
It was common in the workplace to flatter the powerful and look down on the weak.
When she looked up, she just saw Melinda coming out of Evans's office.
The other person looked upset. Vanya leaned back in her chair and watched her gloomy face with interest.
"Melinda!" A few female employees got startled and quickly backed away—they didn't want to offend Vanya, and they didn't want to upset Melinda either.
"I got fired now, are you happy?" Melinda glared at Vanya.
Vanya smiled and said, "You got fired, maybe because you couldn't keep up with the work. What does that have to do with me?"
"Vanya, you only got to run the Dalton family because of Cliff. Who are you to say I'm not good at my job? Just wait, one day I'll show you I'm the one who made it on my own!" Melinda turned and left.
Vanya thought this was really funny.
Which of the things Melinda had didn't come from Cliff?
There was never a single thing she got by her own ability!
Even getting into Upper Wolf International Finance School was thanks to Cliff's connections. Otherwise, with her background, she couldn't have gotten in at all.
Meanwhile, Cliff got a call from the Thompson family business.
Evans kept apologizing over there.
Cliff was getting a little impatient and asked coldly, "So, what is it?"
Evans stammered through what happened today on the phone, then said, "Mr. Todd, I really didn't know Mrs. Todd would come to intern at our company, so I had to let Miss Coleman go first, Mr. Todd..."
"Fired is fired, she never had what it took to get into the Thompson family business anyway." Cliff didn't want to talk about Melinda at all.
Evans was stunned—wasn't Melinda Cliff's lover?
He was way too heartless to his lover, he didn't even ask a single question.
"Yes, yes, yes, Mr. Todd, don't worry. I definitely took good care of Madam! I absolutely didn't let her get wronged at the company!"
Cliff got a little impatient, didn't pay attention to Evans anymore, and just hung up.
Elliot said on the side, "Mr. Todd, if Miss Coleman couldn't find an internship right away, her thesis..."
"If she didn't have this ability, it would have been a waste of all the years I spent training her."
Cliff said calmly, "Don't mention Melinda in front of me again. I'm done with her."
"Yes, Alpha Cliff."
In the afternoon, Vanya got a call from Stuart.
She poured herself some coffee and asked, "What's up?"
"At noon today, several companies under the group all got a resume from the same person."
"Who?"
"Melinda."
Vanya couldn't help laughing—she had just quit her job and was already rushing to find a new one. She was probably worried that this internship would fall through, and she might even lose the hard-won grad school spot she got thanks to Cliff.
"What position did she want?"
"It was... the deputy general manager position." Stuart also thought this Melinda was pretty interesting.
An intern who hadn't even graduated actually dared to ask directly for the position of vice general manager.
Vanya asked, "Which company did she apply to?"
"They were all small companies, some under Dalton, some under the M Group, and some belonged to Mr. Derrick and Ms. Grace."
Vanya got it.
No matter what, the Dalton Group had at least a hundred subsidiaries.
Even if they were small companies, it wasn't stated clearly that they belonged to Dalton, but they really were acquired by Dalton, and they were all well-known old companies in the industry.
Melinda probably didn't know this, or else she wouldn't have invested in Dalton's company even if you killed her.
The new companies that M Group started were really built up by her alone, and the pay was pretty good.
Melinda lost Cliff and wanted to find a place with a high salary to get by, which was also a choice.
Besides, she might have thought that the new company of M Group was short of people, and since she was a graduate student from Wolf International Finance School, she could get herself a good position.
As for Derek and Grace, they were already big shots in the industry, and the companies under them weren't fewer than the Dalton family.
Melinda probably thought that with so many companies in LA, at least one of them had nothing to do with her or Vanya, but she didn't know this place was actually pretty small. Hundreds of companies were packed together, and only a few could really stand out. They either worked together or belonged to the same group.
This time, Melinda just ran right into it.
"Send me Melinda's resume to take a look at later."
"You wanted to leave Melinda?"
Stuart didn't get it—wasn't this just raising a tiger to invite trouble?
Vanya smiled and said, "There's less than a month left in the internship. If I didn't use her, someone else would sooner or later. Might as well keep her where I can see her. With her skills, she couldn't stir up much trouble."
"Yes, CEO Dalton."
Vanya hung up the phone. She actually wanted to see how much ability Melinda really had to climb up on her own.
