It was a Saturday morning, luckily. Beauty got home and saw Jessie waiting for her at her entrance door.
“Thank goodness you’re back! Where have you been? I called you ceaselessly yesternight to inquire about the date, but you never answered. I was so worried. You made me super worried and I hate it…I hate panicking..you know you are my best friend and you kept me hanging, what happened?”
She walked past her without uttering a word.
That move surprised Jessie; it struck a nerve.
“Girl, don’t just ignore me. What the fuck is your deal? You don’t know how worried you got me last night.”
She shouted at her, but unusually, Beauty was still quiet. Her body language was disturbing too.
“Beauty, are you alright?” she asked softly.
Beauty forced a smile.
“I am okay, Jessie. Just a failed date again, but it’s fine. I am used to this.”
She opened the door and turned to her friend.
“Come in, please.”
Jessie sighed.
“It’s okay to feel sad… but… maybe it’s not meant to be… you know.”
“Yeah, but if it keeps happening, then something is wrong with me, right? It’s obvious it’s my fault.”
She dropped her bag on the couch and walked straight towards her room.
“Stop talking nonsense, Beauty. I thought we were through this,” Jessie said.
“Yeah, yeah, I am beautiful the way I am,” Beauty said with an eye roll.
Jessie sighed, taking a seat.
“So… where did you spend the night if the date was a failure?”
Suddenly, her eyes widened.
“Wait… don’t tell me he forced himself on you.”
She gasped, ready to throw hands.
“Nah… the man was disgusted by me. He said my face reminds him of a hippopotamus and that I am going to eat everyone in the restaurant.”
She laughed, then jumped on her bed.
Jessie could tell she was hiding her emotions behind that laughter.
“Beauty, he is a real clown, a jerk! Who says that to a woman on a first date? I wish I were there to throw my fist in his face.”
“I wish I was never born, Jessie,” she cried silently.
Jessie was triggered by her insecure statement.
“Why? Because some jerk called you a hippopotamus? Come on, Beauty! I hate you when you are this weak! Who cares what he thinks?”
“Not just him, Jessie! He’s not the problem. It’s the same with all the men I have been with. The only man who has never insulted me would be my dad. Impressive, isn’t it?”
Jessie thought fast about something to prove her wrong.
“And… emmm… what about Mr. Bruno, the boss’s son? He is a man, right? But he never said anything offensive to you.”
“Are you kidding? He hardly says anything at all. He doesn’t count. I am sure if he weren’t the reserved type, he would say it over and over.”
Beauty murmured.
Jessie sighed.
“So, the jerk… you had no sexual… you know… with him?”
“Yes.”
“Thank goodness,” she sighed.
“But I have a bigger problem, Jessie.”
Jessie looked at her curiously.
“And what problem could that be?”
“Last night, I got myself drunk. I know it was stupid… I was so hurt that I ended up getting myself drunk. However, the worst part is… I called Sir Bruno’s line.”
“He didn’t answer?”
“He answered! That’s the issue.”
“What! He never answers my calls,” Jessie snapped angrily.
“He had no idea it was me, I guess. So, he came over to the eatery, paid the bills, and got me out of there. I don’t know all the details, but I woke up the next morning in a hotel room. And guess what he said? He called Tim, Nathan, and Steven jerks and said I deserved better. Jessie, I think I told him about my past relationships!”
“No, you did not!” Jessie gasped.
Beauty covered her eyes with her long brunette hair.
“I am pretty sure I did. He must see me as such a cheap, pathetic cum bag tossed around by men. I am so dead. I can’t face anyone at the company again.”
“You told him that, and so what? Girl, don’t get yourself worked up over all that. You had just three body counts. Some girls got 40. Guess how many I got?”
Beauty looked at her.
A pervert like Jessie must be higher than she.
“20?”
“No, girl! So stop blaming yourself. If he is going to see you as a whore for just having three failed relationships, then he isn’t even better. Like I told you earlier, a hot guy must be a bottom with many body counts.”
“So he is really gay?” Beauty asked, disappointedly.
“Well, not confirmed yet, but he gives off that vibe with his looks.”
“How? He isn’t feminine,” Beauty replied.
“Well, he is a combination of feminine and masculine because his face is too pretty for a man. So, I have to judge that.”
Beauty sighed and covered her face with a pillow.
“I don’t think I can face him at work tomorrow.”
Then she groaned.
“How did Iever let this happen, I am so done for, what will I say? What will I do? Going to that stupid date was the worst decision ever, humiliation upon humiliation, what am I going to say to him tomorrow , what!”
Jessie rolled her eyes aggressively.
“You sound as if he is always in front of you at the company. You’re the one always stalking him.”
