Daphne lost both her parents overnight, and I could feel her pain.
She was unable to attend their funeral due to her poor physical condition.
Seattle seemed shrouded in a perpetual, sorrowful fog, with even the sunlight losing its warmth.
When Alpha Justin learned of the deaths of his son and daughter-in-law, he was overcome with grief and was urgently taken to the hospital.
Mark's funeral had to be arranged hastily.
Under the gloomy sky, I saw a woman in black, holding a black umbrella, standing in front of his tombstone for a long time.
Her face was contorted in a grimace, revealing her anger and deep resentment toward Mark's decision to die with Holly.
I learned about her identity from Klein.
I also discovered the story of that day from Mark.
Megan had always been scheming but gained nothing in the end. She never expected that Mark would demonstrate his love for Holly in such a way.
I walked up to her and asked softly, "Is this the ending you wanted?"
Megan turned around, somewhat surprised by my presence.
"I've been waiting for you here. This letter is from Mark, for you."
As she reached out for it, I paused and said, "Since it was you who switched Daphne back then, you must know who my biological parents are, right?"
Megan narrowed her eyes as she replied cautiously, "Are you threatening me?"
I shook my head and said, "No, just an exchange. You tell me the whereabouts of my parents, and I will give you the letter. Don't you want to know your place in Mark's heart?"
Megan studied me for a moment before lowering her voice. "I won't tell you about your background, but I'll kindly remind you that if you want to stay safe, you'd better stay in Seattle. Otherwise, you won't even know how you'll end up dead."
With that, she turned and walked away, leaving the letter behind.
I caught up with her and asked, "Don't you want the letter?"
"I can't afford it," Megan said coldly. "I can't afford the cost."
"What will it cost you to tell me the truth?" I asked.
"In short, I advise you to stay in your place and fulfill your role as the Alpha's good daughter of the Silver Moon Pack. Otherwise, you can't bear the consequences." Megan's words revealed a hint of danger, making me feel a little uneasy.
I handed the letter to her. She hesitated briefly, gave me a curt nod, and then vanished down the quiet mountain path.
Holding an umbrella, I stood before Holly's tombstone, laid down a bouquet, and whispered, "Mom, don't worry, I will take care of myself."
Megan's tone made me feel that my real family was complex and full of danger.
Just then, the phone rang and I answered it. It was a call from the hospital.
"Hello."
"Hello, Ms. Hartley. We have the results of the kidney matching from your recent visit."
I rubbed my forehead. Too many things had happened in the past few days, and I almost forgot about this.
"What's the result?"
"Congratulations, Ms. Hartley. It's a perfect match."
I was momentarily stunned.
"Thank you. Please keep this confidential." After hanging up the phone, I immediately dialed Klein's number to share this good news.
It wasn't long before Klein picked up.
"Klein, I have good news. The kidney matching is successful. Where are you right now?"
Klein was stunned for a moment, and his voice trembled as he spoke, "W-what did you say?"
"Can I trade this kidney with you?" I asked, filled with hope and expectation.
