Mark's POV
I stood face to face with Megan, her words slicing through me, each one a well-aimed jab at my vulnerable core.
Her pain and fury were palpable.
"You don't love me, and I get it, but I always thought time would heal things. I thought one day, you'd eventually fall for me," Megan confessed, her voice a whisper of despair and sorrow.
"I could've lived with your coldness. I'd raise our girl, make a home, and you'd love her, no doubt," she said, her words a testament to a stubborn hold on the past and a desperate hope for what could be.
But then, her tone turned razor-sharp, laced with venom. "But when I watched our girl slowly slip away, I felt nothing but hatred for you. You're so cruel. You'd rather dump all your love on that skank than share a smidgen with me and the kid. So, I swore to make you live with regret, Mark."
My chest tightened, a wave of panic washed over me.
Her gaze hardened as she continued, "When Holly was pregnant, I lost my baby girl. Why should she live a happy life while I have to suffer? So, I planned everything, and after she gave birth, I snatched that pup."
I was floored. "That pup ... is Daphne!"
"Right. You adore that bitch, don't you? I'll just ruin her life to get even with you," Megan sneered. "Daphne's younger than our girl, and you never questioned it. I should've expected that. You just didn't care about anything and anyone related to me."
Guilt and anguish washed over me. I owed Megan so much.
"You could stay abroad for years when you were with me. But after you mated with her, you gave it all up for a quiet life, even leaving your pack! What does that make me? And all my efforts? And even my baby girl? She was so cute, and she was old enough to call me 'Mom'!" Megan's voice cracked with desolation.
"I didn't mean to hurt you." I tried to explain, but I knew there were no words that made something like this better.
Megan pressed on, "Tell you what? Holly's miscarriage wasn't an accident. Daphne purposely dripped olive oil on the stairs so Holly would slip and lose the baby. That life she lost was a tribute to my kid..."
I felt a wave of dizziness. These uncovered truths were unbearable.
"And that wasn't all. I coached Daphne to put wolfsbane in Holly's skincare products and the milk she drank every day, which resulted in her being unable to conceive for the rest of her life." Her words sent a chill down my spine.
At this point, my expression changed completely. "How could you be so cruel?"
My voice was nearly a roar.
"Cruel? Haha, what if I tell you that Holly's wolf left because I bribed someone from the Amber's Eye Pack to tamper with her food?" Her madness started to freak me out.
My pupils dilated as I grabbed her by the neck.
"If you have an issue, take it up with me! She's innocent. Why did you hurt her?"
But she just laughed, an unsettlingly beautiful yet cold smile on her face. "All my misfortunes can be traced back to you. If you hadn't treated me so coldly for all those years, none of this would've happened, Mark. Just so you know, I already returned Daphne to her. She's at the hospital right now."
"As payment for last night, I'll keep my word. Daphne's blood matches Holly's, and there is still time for a blood donation. However, she's barely hanging on. I don't know if she can survive after it. Who would you choose, Mark? Your mate or your daughter?" she smirked.
Megan's madness and vengeance left me reeling, torn between choices that would shatter my heart either way.
I felt an unprecedented sense of helplessness and panic.
