Abbie
I grabbed the doorknob, ready to walk out when my phone buzzed again. I took it out of my pocket and glanced at it. It was a notification from my bank. I looked at my phone and my eyes widened as I read the notification. 'Bank fraud alert. Your action is needed: please confirm your activity." I read, making my face go pale. My heart began to race at a million per second as I began to panic.
I mean, come on! I don't have enough money as it is, and now this? It has to be a sick joke. "No no no no no! Come on!" I groaned, wanting to scream in anger. I closed my eyes, opening my phone. This is so damn frustrating.
"Is everything okay, Abbie?" Hunter asks, making me whine. I sighed, puffing my cheeks as I grunted out of desperation. "No. Nothing is ok." I say, wanting to throw my phone out the window. I placed my forehead against the door, hitting the door with my fist slightly and grunting.
"Abs?"
"Hunter," I ask, not wanting to open my eyes, but I turn, still resting my body against the door frame. "Yeah."
"Where is the nearest bank?" I ask, pursing my eyebrows feeling defeated.
"Uh, the bank? What for?"
"Just tell me where the nearest Obsidian Financial bank is, please?" I asked a bit irritated, wanting to cry from how shitty my day has been.
"Uhm, sure.. It's three miles east from here. Do you... need a ride?" he asks, but I wave him off, nodding and closing my eyes.
"No. I'm fine, thank you." I say as I open the door and dash out, making my way out of the pack house angrily and making my way to the bank. I didn't care that it was pouring out, I was not going to stop until I handled this.
I storm in there, making heads turn. I walk to an agent, who looks at me mortified as I crash my hands on his desk, wetting his desk from my soaking wet body from how hard the rain was outside. "Uh... Hi, L- Luna."
"Don't call me Luna. It's Abigail, and you know me very well, Darren." I say, grabbing the seat and sitting down as I groan.
"Right... what can I help you with Lu... I mean... Abbie?" he asks, gesturing to another teller. They quickly come, giving me a towel to dry off.
I show him my notification and his eyes widen in shock. Nearly thirty minutes later and still no answer.
"What do you mean I'm 4 thousand dollars overdraft? Where do you see me with that kind of money? Look at my previous transactions. There isn't a single transaction in there higher than two hundred dollars. Does it look like I have that kind of money?" I yelled, slamming my hands on his desk and making heads turn.
I was done. I was done with today, I was done being here. I was fucking done with life. Why was all this happening to me? What did I ever do to deserve this?
He closes his eyes, making me irritated. "Why are you closing your eyes? You better not be talking to Hunter. This has nothing to do with him. This is my account. Not his." I grit my teeth, making him look at me with guilt in his eyes.
"I- I'm sorry, Luna...uh... Abbie, but this bank belongs to the pack and because of our policy, he needs to know what is happening. Maybe he can help resolve this?"
"How? How is he supposed to resolve this, Darren? Is he going to find out who hacked into my account and did that fraudulent transaction? Is he going to give me back my mediocre forty dollars back? You know I still have two semesters to go for my certification to become a teacher? And that I'm overdue for tuition? Or that I needed to pay for my phone today and now I can't even do that? One, because now you're going to have to cancel my card, and two, because I was fired a few days before coming here, making me broke as it is." I say, getting angry. I stopped, closing my eyes and sighing. He didn't need to know all that, but damn, it felt good venting.
"You're being a complete bitch, Abbie. It's not his fault. He's only trying to help. It's policy, remember? You had to do the same shit at work. Go by policy codes. Even when you wanted to deck a bitch on the jaw... Give the guy a break." Merida finally talked, but I was so frustrated by now that I felt like crying.
I know it's not his fault, and I shouldn't vent my anger on him, but it wasn't fair. I've tried doing things fairly all the time, and because of that, I get stepped on, and taken advantage of, and it's not fair. I'm done being a doormat.
I sigh again, placing my hands over my face, and groan. "I'm sorry... I.... shouldn't take it out on you. It's not your fault, and you didn't need to know all that. I know, my life is shitty, right?" I tell Darren, making Merida growl and causing me to chuckle out of frustration. "You're being so mean to this pack, Abbie. I'm surprised by your shitty behavior. This isn't like you." she says, making guilt engulf me. She's right. I've been so caught up with my problems that I haven't taken into consideration that I finally got to see a lot of people I actually cared for back when I was still around.
"Abbie, you will not be held responsible for this fraud, I can guarantee you that. It will not affect your account in any way, but, I will need to cancel your card. I will place a request to issue a new one to you. Make sure you call everyone and make the changes with any payments you have coming up."
"How long will I have to wait for my new card?" I asked, giving up on my rant.
He keeps closing his eyes, evident he is still talking to Hunter. His fingers tap quickly over the keyboard and then press a key that makes a few documents print.
"Come back tomorrow afternoon. I will have a new card issued to you then. As for now, the only thing I need you to do is give me a few signatures to,"
"Signatures? For what?" I ask, making him look up at me clearing his throat. "Uh, just... protocol, you know? It's just to verify that your account was hacked and that the bank will not hold you accountable for it," he says as he places the documents before me along with a pen.
"But... why does it say single/ joint account application? I'm not opening a new account, I'm just getting a new card issued." I asked suspiciously.
"No. I know, it's just... policy. Policy." he says, making me squint my eyes. "He's getting nervous. You're making him nervous, stop it, Abbie. Bad Abbie, bad Abbie. Stop intimidating this kid." Merida says, making me groan.
"Darren, for your sake, you better not be lying to me. Because if you're trying to take over my account, let me tell you... there's never more than four hundred in there. The most... would be five hundred if I'm lucky." I say, making him chuckle.
"No worries Luna. I promise I won't steal anything from you," he says, making me sigh, sitting back in my seat.
I look at him tentatively, making him look away and clear his throat. "Ok. I trust you." I say as I grab the pen and sign the documents, pushing them back in front of him along with the pen. He smiles from ear to ear, grabbing the documents quickly as he taps away on his computer.
"Ok. All set. There's your identification back, Luna. Come back tomorrow morning and I will have your new card ready for you." he says, placing all the documents into a folder, stamping them with the pack's seal, and smiling. "Do I... Get a copy?" I ask, feeling a bit awkward about this whole procedure.
I mean, let me tell you... the procedures with werewolf banks are weird. Much more strict than human banks, that's for sure. "Uh, yes. But tomorrow. Alpha needs to sign them so we can authorize the procedure. You know?" he says, shrugging his shoulders, and making me roll my eyes.
"Fine. I'll be back tomorrow. Thank you for all your help, Darren." I say, standing up from my seat and stretching my hand out to him.
He smiles, stands up, and shakes my hand firmly. "It's been my pleasure, Luna. Have a great evening," he says, making me tilt my head. I looked outside, and low and behold, it was dark already. "Oh, shit! What time is it?" I ask, realizing that we are the only people left in the bank besides two other tellers.
"Uh, it's 8 in the evening, Luna," he says, looking at his watch. "Oh, no. My dad is going to kill me." I groan, realizing I was late for dinner and probably late for training. We had already established back home that we would not miss training while visiting here, whether it was raining or not.
"I have to go," I say as I push my chair back, "Thanks again for all your help. Good night guys." I say as I wave, and make my way out the door. It was pouring outside, making me groan. "Damn it. I don't think there's even time to change. We'll just have to ask Marissa where we're meeting for practice and run out there." I tell Merida, making her chuckle.
I'm ready to run when an arm pulls me, making me look back. Hunter stood next to me, with an umbrella in his hand as he placed it on top of me to cover me from the rain. My eyes widen as I see him soaking wet.
"Hunter! How... how long have you been out here?" I ask, getting closer to him so that the umbrella covers both of us.
"Long enough. Ready to go?" he says, smiling at me. I drop my shoulders, feeling like such an idiot. Why is he being so nice to me? This. Isn't. Fair.
"But... if you've been out here, why didn't you just go inside? Now you're all wet. You can get sick." I say, making his arm pull me by the waist against him. My body fills with the spark, making me suppress a moan. Merida giggles like a dumb little schoolgirl madly in love.
"Well, it's a good thing to see you care," he says, smirking. He looks so hot with that devil smirk. Damn it... what is wrong with me? Get your heat under control, Abigail!
"But, we're werewolves, baby. We rarely get sick, remember?" he says, holding me against him tightly.
The stupid pull from our mating bond is getting stronger, making me want to hug him. Kiss him. ... but I have to fight it.
