Alpha King of Ruin and Desire

Chapter 129

Ch. 129 / 150 Dec 30, 2025

The war room’s frantic activity—the shuffling of maps, the issuing of orders, the grim faces of the assembled captains—ground to an absolute halt with the delivery of the package. It arrived not through a standard courier or a whispered threat, but via a strange, shimmering intrusion. A small, obsidian cube, no larger than Kian’s palm, simply appeared on the center of the mahogany table, sitting precisely where his hand had rested moments before.

The air around it was cold, faintly metallic, carrying the crisp scent of ozone and stale magic. It was utterly alien in the ancient Morvane Keep, a jarring blend of archaic Coven energy and something sleekly, frighteningly modern.

Gareth lunged, drawing his short sword, but Kian raised a hand to stop him.

"It’s a message, not a bomb," Kian stated, though his voice lacked conviction. He stepped forward, his eyes narrowed, scrutinizing the cube. It pulsed with a faint, internal blue light, intricately engraved with sigils that were both familiar and entirely foreign. Vane and Aurora had sent their reply, and the psychological warfare had begun.

"How did it breach the newly established perimeter?" one of the Guard Captains whispered, fear thick in his voice.

"It wasn't carried," Kian replied, his jaw tight. "It was teleported through a micro-port, designed to bypass energy fields, not physical walls. Aurora's signature—high-grade magical tunneling with minimal leakage."

He reached out and carefully touched the obsidian surface. As his finger made contact, the cube extruded a single, wafer-thin screen, the image resolution impossibly sharp. The blue light intensified, creating an eerie, theatrical illumination in the already darkened study. Kian waved everyone back, leaving only Gareth and himself to face the onslaught.

The screen flickered, resolving into a static image that stopped Kian’s heart mid-beat. His breath hitched—a raw, strangled sound that ripped through the silence of the room.

The image that filled the screen was a snapshot of pure, calculated cruelty.

There was Amelia.

She was pale, her vibrant, golden Fae aura completely suppressed, leaving her skin stark white against the rough, dark material of a simple shift. She was seated—or rather, slumped—in a crude, straight-backed wooden chair, the kind found in a dungeon or forgotten cellar. Her wrists and ankles were bound tightly with thick, hempen rope, looped several times and anchored to the chair’s solid frame. The restraints were not neat magical cuffs, but simple, brutal bindings—Vane’s signature of rough practicality.

What paralyzed Kian, however, was the unbearable sight of their unborn child. Amelia’s stomach was impossibly swollen, heavy with the full-term life within her. The sight of her vulnerability, magnified by the pregnancy, struck him like a physical blow, bending the Alpha King into the figure of a desperate mate.

She was unconscious, her long, silver-streaked hair falling across her shoulder. Her head was tilted back, exposing the delicate line of her neck.

Then, the focus shifted slightly, and Kian saw it. A dark, ugly bruise bloomed high on her left cheekbone, near her temple. It wasn't the kind of injury from a fall; it was a focused, deliberate mark—a message of violation and contempt. It was the only visible injury, making it all the more terrifyingly significant. The bruise was a silent scream of power, a promise of pain to come.

Kian stared, incapable of movement. The Alpha logic, the strategic planning, the calculated rage—all of it dissolved into a blinding, white-hot vacuum of horror. He had faced armies, fought creatures of nightmare, and stood against the full power of the Fae Court’s wrath. But this image, the sight of his Luna, his pregnant mate, beaten and shackled like chattel, broke him. His entire body locked up, a perfect, agonizing paralysis.

Gareth, watching Kian’s face turn ash gray, instinctively moved to support him, his own hand shaking as he looked at the screen.

The video, which had been static, began to move. It wasn't a live feed, but a short, recorded loop. The camera slowly panned down Amelia's bound figure, pausing cruelly on the bulge of her belly, before zooming in on the bruise.

There was no sound in the video, which somehow amplified the horror. It was pure visual terror. The silence was the absence of a plea, the absence of a struggle. It was the silence of utter subjugation.

A high-pitched, mocking giggle, detached and synthesized, finally cut through the silence of the study, issuing from the cube. A mechanical, distorted voice followed, clearly intended to be untraceable.

"Alpha King. We have prepared a special incubator for your little alliance." The voice paused, the synthesized laughter returning, sharp and cruel. "The next broadcast will feature the delivery."

The screen instantly went black. The obsidian cube pulsed once, a final, mocking blue flare, before dissolving into nothingness, leaving behind only the cold scent of ozone and the heavy knowledge of what Kian had just seen.

The paralysis lasted only a moment, but in that moment, Kian aged a decade. When his eyes finally cleared, they were not the eyes of a King preparing for war, but of a vengeful god. The last vestige of political calculation had been burned away by the sight of the bruise on Amelia’s face.

"They intend to force the child’s birth," Kian rasped, his voice raw, grating against his throat. He did not ask how Vane and Aurora knew of the due date, or how they planned to manage the complexities of a Fae-Morvane delivery. The timeline was everything.

He spun toward Gareth, his voice now a terrifying, controlled thunder. "Forget the search patterns, Beta. Forget finding Aurora’s general stronghold. They are using this video to draw us out. That bruise, that chair—it’s designed to push me past analysis and into pure, frantic reaction."

Kian ran a hand over his face, inhaling deeply, forcing the protective Alpha fury into a cold, lethal focus. "And they succeed. The plan changes. Tactical retrieval only. They want me to react? I will give them a reaction. We need to find the specific location of that broadcast. Now. Before the next transmission."

He slammed his fist down on the table, exactly where the cube had been. "I want every Shadow Guard captain, every Coven Seer, and every available asset focused on tracing that magical residue. We are no longer hunting ghosts. We are hunting a location. And when we find it, we burn it to the ground."
