Alpha King of Ruin and Desire

Chapter 127

Ch. 127 / 150 Dec 30, 2025

The Keep was no longer a symbol of celebration; it was a cage of despair and rage. The air, still heavy with the lingering scent of celebratory wine and scorched earth from the ritual, now held the metallic tang of Kian’s unrestrained fury. He had shifted back to his human form, but only out of necessity, not control. His movements were jerky, his breathing shallow, every muscle in his body coiled for violence. He wasn't pacing—he was hunting an invisible enemy across a silent, shattered landscape.

"I don't care how secure the wards are," Kian snarled, kicking over the gilded table that had held the wedding cake, sending fine crumbs and shards of crystal skittering across the stone. "She was here one moment, gone the next. Find the breach, Gareth. I want every stone moved, every shadow chased. If there's a subterranean tunnel leading a hundred miles, I want it unearthed now!"

Gareth, the consummate Beta, was the only grounding force in the storm. He understood that Kian’s desperation was a fire that could consume them all if left unchecked.

"Alpha, focus," Gareth’s voice was sharp, cutting through the emotional chaos with military precision. "Chaos serves the enemy. Every person here remains contained. We are operating under a three-phase plan: Containment, Interrogation, and Forensics. The perimeter is sealed, the Shadow Guard is taking positions. No one is moving yet."

Gareth had swiftly divided the search into organized, overlapping teams. Morvane warriors, using their exceptional speed and tracking, were running grids in the immediate vicinity of the altar, sniffing for the faintest residual trace of Amelia’s fear or the abductors’ foreign scent. Meanwhile, Fae guards, led by Roric, were systematically checking the structure itself, looking for hidden doors, secret passages, or magical signatures that might betray a teleportation spell.

Kian didn’t participate in the methodical searches; his rage was too loud, his senses too clouded by the agony of the severing Mate Bond. He hovered, a figure of terrifying impatience, watching the only person who held the key to the vanishing act: Myra.

The Witch was in her element, albeit a horrific one. She had cleared the immediate area around the guards, Borin and Silas, who were now being watched by healers. She was no longer wearing the silk gown of a newlywed; she was cloaked in her power, her hair pulled back, her eyes gleaming with focused magical energy.

Myra knelt, holding the linen swatch soaked with the airborne agent, and began her trace. She whispered incantations in a low, ancient dialect, letting the words vibrate the air. The faint, oily sheen of the poison began to react, not by burning, but by releasing a thin, translucent vapor that hung suspended just above the stone.

"The residual energy is almost neutralized," Myra reported, her voice hushed with concentration. "Whoever did this employed specific shielding enchantments on themselves. They didn't just use a chemical agent; they layered it with a magical suppressant to mask their presence immediately after the abduction."

She extended her hand, following the ghost trail. The path was not scattered or random; it was a focused vector leading directly away from the throne and towards a seldom-used service archway leading out of the main courtyard.

"The speed..." Myra muttered, tracking the dispersal rate of the residual magical energy. "It moved too fast for a standard Fae or Coven member. And the chemical agent was designed to incapacitate the largest, strongest Morvanes instantly. This confirms your initial assessment, Alpha."

She rose to face Kian, her expression grim. "It was a combined operation. The speed of the extraction points to Morvane involvement—someone fast, potentially two people. The stealth, the custom-made chemical weapon, and the unique magical suppression point directly to a high-ranking Coven sorcerer, one with access to advanced alchemy and ancient lore."

"A Coven member working with a Morvane," Kian concluded, the puzzle pieces clicking together into a horrifying image of betrayal. "They used our own strengths against us. Who among the Coven knows those archaic formulas, Myra?"

"Few. Only the original inner circle, the oldest bloodlines—and those who have access to the forbidden scrolls," she replied, her eyes narrowing in thought. "But that is still too many names."

The magical trail led Myra and Kian to the perimeter of the ancient, interwoven wards—the Morvane and Fae protection spells that had guarded the Keep for centuries, spells that were stronger than any natural defense. The wards shimmered, visibly humming with life.

Myra pressed her hands against the barrier, feeling its incredible strength. "The wards are perfectly intact, Kian. Nothing got through."

"Then she must have been taken out a separate way," Kian insisted, his voice laced with venomous impatience.

"No," Myra said, shaking her head slowly. She began tracing the ward lines, focusing her energy until the magical lattice was visible, like strands of glowing spider silk stretched taught across the stone. She walked the perimeter, her steps growing slower, until she reached a small, unassuming section of the wall near the archway the scent had led them to.

She gasped, pulling her hands back as if burned.

"What is it, Witch?" Kian demanded, stepping forward.

"The trace... it vanishes here," she whispered, her voice barely audible. "The residual energy from the abductors stops exactly at this point of the ward." She stared at the wall, which looked perfectly normal—solid, ancient stone, crackling faintly with the ward’s energy.

"But the ward is whole," Gareth insisted, joining them, examining the stone.

"It is," Myra agreed, her face pale. "The ward itself was not broken, nor was it shattered. It was... nulled."

She looked up at Kian, her fear a chilling echo of his own. "This wasn't a teleportation or a brute force strike, Alpha. This is far worse. They used a sophisticated Coven spell—an anti-magic matrix—to temporarily create a pocket of localized, magical nullification. They didn't break the seal; they made the seal not exist for a moment, just long enough for Morvane speed to carry her through before the ward snapped back into place."

The revelation was a punch to the gut. To nullify the Keep’s strongest wards—a feat that required power, specific knowledge of the ancient Fae-Morvane spell matrix, and incredible precision—meant the enemy was operating at a level they had never anticipated. This wasn't a rogue enemy or a disgruntled rival; this was a highly organized, deeply knowledgeable faction within the highest echelons of both the Coven and Morvane society.

Kian stood silent, the fragile control he had maintained finally snapping. His Morvane transformation was slow this time, a deliberate, terrifying ripple of muscle and bone. When the massive black beast stood fully formed, the air itself seemed to darken.

His eyes, pure gold slits of concentrated fury, fixed on the innocuous piece of wall where the world’s safest location had proven to be a lie.

"We are not fighting petty thieves, Myra," Kian's deep, rumbling voice settled over the Keep. "We are fighting ghosts who know our defenses better than we do."

He gave a final, desperate sniff near the vanished trace, committing the faint, synthetic scent of betrayal to memory. "Gareth, send a communication. Every Pack leader, every Elder, every Sorcerer. Tell them this: The Alpha King is hunting. And the Keep of Nightshade is closed until his Luna is home."

The hunt had now escalated from a search party to a declaration of total, devastating war against an unseen enemy.
