Mr. Blackwood and his Employees had just arrived at the Sir Seretse Khama International Airport (GBE): Located in Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. It was 4am, Botswana time on a Saturday morning and the sky was still dark when they arrived.
They were cleared to enter the country after meeting all the requirements and they all headed for the car. They had spent over twenty hours flying as they had taken a direct flight from New York City to Botswana, and they were all clearly tired.
Anna was amazed when they got to the car waiting to pick them up, it was a Rolls-Royce Phantom. Of course she already had an idea of how wealthy Mr. Blackwood was, but it would take a lot more influence to have a Rolls-Royce and professional driver who also served as a bodyguard, judging from his dressing and posture, waiting for him in an entirely different continent.
The weather was cold but a regular type of cold, Anna could only wonder how hot it gets in the afternoon if it was averagely cold by this time of the day. There were bright lights all over the airport with adequate security, she already knew Africa was quite past the stone age but the infrastructure and technology still came as a surprise to her.
Mr. Blackwood immediately shook hands with the Black Driver as he welcomed him back to Botswana; they seemed to be familiar with each other. There was no time for chitchat, so the driver immediately opened the door for us to enter. Mr. Blackwood pointed for the ladies to go first and Megan took the lead, but as Anna tried to follow, Mr. Blackwood held her back with his arm.
“Not so fast, you should sit in the front, you know? For a better view of the city,” he said with a mocking smile and then he sat in after Megan, closing the door on her.
Anna stood there confused, what was that all about? She never asked to get a better view of the city, it was more like he was keeping her away from himself. She sighed and ignored the act, hurrying to the other side of the car and getting into the front seat, she was not going to let him ruin her day before it even began.
Although it was still dark as the car drove out of the airport, Anna had her eyes fixed on the streets, there were street lights to light up the way and a few people on the highway. The roads were clean and free of homeless people, unlike the streets of New York.
Not long after, their car took a turn into Gaborone Sun Hotel, in the heart of the city. Anna looked out in amazement, although not very bright, she couldn’t help but notice the lush greenery, meandering pathways, and sparkling water features that create a serene oasis where guests can relax and unwind. She also caught sight of a swimming pool, surrounded by palm trees and sun loungers.
Their car stopped and the driver opened the door from the outside, Megan was the first to step out and then Mr. Blackwood. He walked to her side of the door and knocked gently on it.
“Miss Owl, are you going to step out or what?”
Anna growled inside and opened the door. So he couldn’t be polite enough to open the door for her? What if she spoiled something in the car, that was why she had stayed put for someone else to open the door.
With the sounds of the clicking shoes against the plush carpeting and under the soft lighting, they walked through the lobby and up to the reception. The receptionist there seemed to be struggling with sleep but the moment she saw the YT’s, she sat up with full attention.
“Good morning, welcome to Gaborone Sun Hotel.” She said with an accent that immediately made Megan chuckle.
“Beautiful morning,” Mr. Blackwood replied casually, and then he turned to Anna, urging her to do the necessary.
Anna was nervous after what happened the last time, she just hoped she didn’t mess things up again, but the receptionist had confirmed her call for reservations. However, Anna had forgotten to mention that they wouldn’t be there till Saturday morning as she had thought that they would arrive in Botswana on that Friday they left, so one of the rooms they had booked had been given off to another customer.
Mr. Blackwood turned to Anna and growled softly, she always managed to mess things up. Now they only had two rooms from their VIP reservations left, unless they wanted to pick a casual room. Mr. Blackwood was almost tempted to book the casual room for Anna but it was in an entirely different building from the VIP lounges and he didn’t want to be far from her.
“We will take the two.” Mr. Blackwood said. “The ladies would share.”
Anna was surprised to hear that, she turned to Maxwell but the look on his face was enough to keep her shut, she held back her words.
A young lady immediately led them towards the rooms. Mr. Blackwood’s room was on the same block but their entrance doors were on different corridors. The room service excused herself after they got to the room and it was just Megan and Anna.
Anna didn’t have time to analyze the room, her eyes just met the large bed and she smiled. She needed a good sleep as her body ached. They had flown first class, as Mr. Blackwood had chosen not to take his private jet for reasons best known to him.
“I will get some sleep, I am stressed out.” Anna said, pointing to the left side of the bed without even looking at Megan.
“Yeah, we both should, since we do have a long day ahead of us.” Megan replied.
Anna paused and turned back to her. “Sorry, what do you mean?” she asked in surprise, she had no idea what Megan was talking about, it was a Saturday.
“You didn’t know?” Megan asked with creased eyebrows.
“Know what?” Anna asked, beginning to get worried.
“Oh, well... Mr. Blackwood did say that we will all be going to the Diamond Mine later today for investigation and inspection, then after that, we will go and meet the people in charge of the land area for proper negotiations in order for work to continue.” Megan announced.
“Oh,” Anna muttered. She couldn’t believe it. SO MB told her but not his personal Assistant? Why has he been acting strange since before their trip? Was he avoiding her or something? Why was he constantly sidelining her?
It now felt like she had switched jobs with Megan or something. As Anna lay down on the bed with her stomach, she could not help but wonder why Mr. Blackwood was being strange? Did she do something wrong?
