Anna had just received a phone call from the receptionist, informing her of Jimmy's arrival at the company and she had immediately instructed that he is directed to her office. She stood before the closed door and adjusted her gown while waiting for him to show up.
She was self-conscious with her dressing, especially after what happened this morning between her and Mr. Blackwood. If this was going to be her life now, she needed to make sure that she was never caught.
Soon, she heard footsteps approaching the door and she composed herself, she rushed back to her chair and sat down, pretending to be focused on the laptop. She was trying hard to appear formal, a sophisticated lady working in her office, perhaps to impress Jimmy.
The long awaited knock sounded on the door and she calmly asked him to come in, her eyes fixed on the desktop screen. The door was pushed open and Jimmy walked in, Anna looked up to face him wearing a solemn face, but she couldn’t hold back the smile the moment she set her eyes on him.
Jimmy also wore a grin on his face, he seemed proud to see her at her table, in her office, at least that was what Anna thought.
“Hi,” he said in a soft voice, the office was very quiet and so he couldn’t help but keep his voice down.
“Hey,” Anna stood up with a smile, she walked out from behind the table and went closer to him.
“Here is your lunch,” he said calmly and raised it up a bit.
“Thank. You.” she took it with a grin, stating the words separately.
As she took the lunch bag from him and made to turn around, he grabbed her by the waist and pulled her closer to him, she gasped immediately and stared at his face with mouth agape.
“Why are you messing with my head?” he asked softly.
“I don’t know what you are talking about,” she replied in a hush tone.
“Yes you do,” he said and gently slid his fingers under her jaw, forcing her to look him in the eyes. Anna burst into laughter immediately.
“Stop it! I need to get back to work,” she whined in a babyish voice.
“Fine, I will leave you to your work. But first, you are going to give me a kiss, then you will tell me that you love me and you will mean every word of it.” He announced.
“Huh? Come on, now is not the time.” She grumbled.
“I insist,” Jimmy said, staring at her cute lips. Anna had tiny lips, unlike her large eye sockets.
Anna growled in pretense frustration and then she sighed. “Fine,” she said and immediately gave him a peck on the lips.
“Uh-uhh! Not accepted,” Jimmy said immediately, a light smile appearing on his face.
“That was a kiss.” Anna argued.
“No it wasn’t, I didn’t even feel your lips,” he said, bringing his lips closer for another kiss.
Anna smiled and then she gave in, locking his lips in a tight kiss. He had very smooth lips as he always applied a balm on them, but Anna couldn’t help but feel different when she kissed him. there was something off, she just couldn’t tell what.
After a minute, she broke the kiss and pulled back, he had let go of her waist but she had her arms around his neck, she had always been a natural hugger, she did it out of instinct. “Are you happy now?” she asked with a smile between her lips.
“Yeah, but you still have to say you love me,” he replied.
Anna chuckled and looked down shyly, then she stared up at him again, she admired his seductive blue eyes, it was like he had a charm over her.
“I love you Jimmy, you know that already, I love you with everything in me.” She uttered truthfully.
“Promise me you are always going to be mine, for me and me alone.” Jimmy requested.
Anna paused and then slowly looked away from him. she couldn’t say those words, she would be making herself a liar.
“Jimmy, there is something we need to talk about.” She said suddenly, realizing that she couldn’t keep up with this lie anymore, this was not who she was.
“Okay? Is everything alright?” Jimmy asked immediately, genuine concern on his face.
Just then the door was pushed open and Mr. Blackwood walked in, forcing them to split apart instantaneously.
“Mr. Blackwood.” Anna uttered suddenly, shock written all over her face.
Mr. Blackwood stood still, his face covered in confusion and surprise. What was going on?
“Hello,” Jimmy said to him immediately with a small smile. Maxell muttered a silent “Hi” in response, his face still wearing an investigative look.
“Anny, we are going to talk later, I will leave now.” Jimmy said immediately and Anna nodded with a smile, she walked him to the door and watched him leave, then she closed the door and walked back to Mr. Blackwood.
“Who was that?” he asked in a cold voice, sending shivers through her entire being.
Anna swallowed hard, not knowing why this was awkward. “He… He is my boyfriend.” She summoned the courage to announce it.
Mr. Blackwood’s facial expression changed immediately, “Boyfriend?” he said calmly. “Hmm, okay… but you are aware that this is your workplace and not a brothel, aren’t you?” he queried.
Anna sighed and rubbed her forehead, the irony of his words. Was this company not worse than a brothel?
“I didn’t mean to offend you, Sir. He had only come to bring me lunch, nothing more.” She replied.
“Yeah of course, lunch.” He said sarcastically and scoffed. “Anyways, rearrange my schedule. I am going to Botswana on Friday morning, cancel any appointments that I have that day, get me a ticket and see if my Visa is still valid.” He instructed.
“Alright Sir, I will do that as soon as possible.” Anna replied.
Mr. Blackwood turned around to leave but then he paused and turned back towards her. “You know what? I have a better idea, get us three tickets. You, me and Megan, we are all going to Botswana on Friday.” He announced.
“Huh?” Anna’s jaw dropped in shock. “I am sorry, why Sir?” she queried.
“Why not? You are my Personal Assistant and she is my Personal secretary, or do you have better plans with your boyfriend?” he said with a tone of sarcasm.
Anna swallowed hard, not understanding why he was bringing up the boyfriend matter. “No Sir, but I don’t have a Visa and I sure can’t get one in 24 hours.”
“You have Italian citizenship, that gives you over two months of visa-free stay in Botswana. Megan has an American citizenship, the same applies to her.”
Anna couldn’t believe his persistence, she needed to come up with something. “But Sir, who is going to take care of the company in the absence of the three of us?” she pointed out.
“That is why we have a general manager and supervisors for every department. Don’t act like you care about this company more than I do.” He said bluntly and then he walked out of the office.
Anna stood there frozen. What just happened? Why did he seem so mad at her? What did she do wrong? Was it because of Jimmy? Why would he even be offended by that? Jimmy’s presence in or position in her life was no obstacle for him, he still had control over her body and did with it as he pleased; that was the whole deal, so why was he getting upset?
She sighed and went back to her chair; maybe he was pissed about something else and just ended up taking it out on her.
