chapter 9

Ch. 9 / 30 Oct 07, 2025

POV Kiara

"Half-truths and manipulations—that's all you've ever given anyone, Aleron. Why should I trust a single word from your lying mouth?"

Something dangerous flickered across his features after that. Pure irritation replacing the patient amusement he'd worn while delivering his devastating revelations. His gaze hardened like winter frost as he sighed wearily.

"Still the stubborn little wolf…" he murmured, his voice carrying a sharp edge that made my skin prickle. "Even with the evidence, you'd rather cling to comfortable lies."

"They're not lies," I snarled, though uncertainty gnawed at me. "My father loved me. He protected me. Whatever you think you know—"

"Your father was a coward," Aleron cut me off with brutal finality, his patience apparently exhausted. "A sentimental fool who spent long years lying to your face because he lacked the spine to deal with what you really are."

"Don't you dare—"

"He knew exactly what you were from the moment you were born," Aleron continued relentlessly. "Hybrid children aren't subtle, love. He knew, and he spent years pretending otherwise."

My claws extended involuntarily, surging to the surface in response to his attack on my father's memory. "He was protecting me!"

But even as the words left my lips, something in Aleron's expression—a cruel amusement, a knowing smirk—made certainty waver in my voice.

"Cameron was protecting himself," he corrected with devastating calm. "From having to explain to his precious pack that their beloved Alpha had bred with a vampire. From dealing with the political nightmare your existence would create."

The words hit like harsh slaps in my face, each one designed to destroy another pillar of my carefully constructed identity.

Around us, the forest seemed to hold its breath. As if nature itself was waiting to see how much truth I could absorb before breaking completely.

"You're twisting everything…" I whispered, but my voice lacked conviction.

"Am I?"

Aleron tilted his head with that infuriating smirk that had once made my teenage heart flutter.

"Alpha Cameron was so pathetically noble," he said, his voice dripping with disdain. "Agreeing to raise the child alone, spinning stories about mother’s heroic sacrifice at war. When really, your mother simply had better things to do than change diapers and sing lullabies."

I attacked him then, fury and desperation driving me forward with enhanced speed that should have been impossible even for an Alpha. But Aleron flowed away from my strikes like liquid shadow.

"He was planning to tell you the truth, actually,” he continued conversationally, as if we weren't engaged in mortal combat. "Your dear daddy finally grew a spine in his final. Started making plans to reveal the truth about your precious mother."

"Stop," I snarled, landing a blow that sent him staggering but didn't wipe that mocking smile from his face.

"Can you imagine how that conversation would have gone?" Aleron pressed on with visible enjoyment. "Surprise, sweetheart! Everything I've told you about your heritage is a lie. Your mother isn't actually dead—she just abandoned you because vampire politics were more important than you."

"Shut up!" I screamed, my strikes becoming more desperate as his casual cruelty sank in.

I landed a blow that sent him staggering, but he just laughed.

"Your father knew this day would come eventually," he continued, sliding away from my claws. "He just lacked the strength to see it through properly."

My claws extended when the fight became as much emotional as physical, years of grief and betrayal pouring out in every blow.

"Besides," he added with casual cruelty, "his death served a more important purpose. It brought you to me when you were ready. When the bond could be properly forged."

I backed away from him, but he moved faster than my enhanced reflexes could track.

Before I could react, his hands gripped my arms, pulling me against his chest with strength that made resistance impossible.

"You still don't believe it's real, do you?" he murmured against my ear, his voice dropping to something intimate and devastating. "That we’re bonded. You think it's just vampire tricks and manipulation."

"Let me go," I snarled, but my body already betrayed me.

Instead of fighting fiercely, I found myself almost frozen by his proximity, by the way his touch sent electricity racing through my nerves.

"Feel it, love," Aleron whispered, his fingers pressed against the back of my neck as something powerful flared to life between us. "Feel what's been forming since the moment my blood touched your tongue."

Heat crashed through my chest like wildfire, and suddenly I could feel him—not just his physical presence, but everything. His emotions, his desires, the way his pulse matched mine beat for beat.

The sensation was overwhelming, terrifying, and impossibly intimate.

It felt like he was inside my very soul.

"No," I breathed, but the word came out strangled as the connection intensified, making every cell in my body sing with recognition.

"With time away from me the hunger you feel will only grow stronger," he continued, his mouth so close to my throat I could feel his breath against my skin. "Sleep will bring only dreams of me. Even your precious mate's touch will feel cold compared to this fire."

I tried to pull away, but the bond pulsed between us with devastating intensity, making my knees weak and my resolve crumble.

"I'll fight it," I managed, though my voice shook with the magnitude of what I was feeling.

"Oh, love," Aleron laughed softly, the sound vibrating through my body where we touched. "You can try. But vampire bonds are absolute, inevitable. And the more you resist, the more it will hurt."

His hand moved to cup my face, thumb tracing my cheekbone with possessive gentleness. In the distance, urgent howls echoed through the forest—pack members who'd discovered my location and were rushing to help their Alpha.

The sound made Aleron's eyes flicker with dark satisfaction.

"Ah, the cavalry arrives," he murmured, but instead of releasing me, his grip tightened possessively. "Time for me to go. But first..."

Before I could react, his mouth crashed against mine with devastating intensity.

The kiss was fire and hunger and everything I'd been trying to deny. Every nerve ending came alive, every cell in my body screaming recognition.

Desperate to break free, to stop the way my traitorous body was responding, I bit down hard on his lower lip. The taste of his blood flooded my mouth, and instead of revulsion, I felt a hunger so sharp and immediate it stole my breath.

Aleron pulled back with a laugh of pure satisfaction, blood trickling from his lip.

"There it is," he said, his eyes blazing with triumph. "The hunger you've been trying so hard to deny. Tell me, love—did my blood taste like poison? Or did it taste like exactly what you've been craving?"

I couldn't answer, couldn't deny the way my body had responded. The way part of me wanted to lean forward and taste more of him.

"I thought so," he said, releasing me so suddenly I staggered. "When the hunger becomes unbearable, when the questions multiply, when you're ready to stop lying to yourself about what you need—you'll come looking for the only person who's been honest with you. You'll come to me willingly."

He leaned closer, his lips barely brushing my ear as he whispered.

"And when you do, love, I'll be waiting to give you everything your vampire soul craves. Everything only I can provide. Relief from the hunger. Understanding of your true nature. Pleasure beyond anything your wolf has ever shown you."

"This isn't over," I managed, though my body was shaking with the implications of everything he'd told me.

"Of course it isn't," Aleron agreed, his voice taking on that seductive quality that made something deep inside me respond despite my horror. "This is just the beginning, little hybrid.”
