The Outcast Bride of the Alpha Warlord

CHAPTER 125 — Interfere

Ch. 125 / 150 Jan 08, 2026

POV: Soraya

Raevan steps back from Zarek, chest heaving, fur soaked in blood and dust. For a moment—one fragile, trembling moment—the battlefield feels still. As if the desert itself dares to hope that maybe, just maybe, this is the end.

But I know Zarek.

I know the way his mind coils like a serpent.

I know the exact gleam that enters his eyes when he thinks someone is foolish enough to show mercy.

“Raevan,” I whisper, taking a single step forward.

He hears me. His golden wolf eyes flick toward mine—softening, even in the middle of war, even after everything that has happened between us. He starts to shift back, bones cracking, form reshaping—

And that is when I see it.

The shift in Zarek’s posture.

The tightening of his muscles.

The flicker of golden power crawling up his fur.

“Oh Gods,” I inhale, “no—”

Zarek lunges.

A blur of gold and rage explodes across the Moonsand, faster than any mortal eye should follow. His claws extend, shimmering with lethal alpha magic. He leaps at Raevan’s exposed back with a snarl meant to kill—not injure, not wound—kill.

Raevan doesn’t see it. He can’t hear it. He is shifting, half-human, vulnerable—

“No!” I scream.

My voice tears out of me as my body moves before thought, before reason, before hesitation. I run. My feet barely touch the sand. Energy explodes beneath me in silver arcs. My wolf inside me howls, clawing at my bones.

And then something inside me breaks open.

Heat surges up my spine.

My vision turns white around the edges.

My heartbeat becomes thunder.

The Zehrael part of me—the ancient magic, the forgotten blood, the moon-marked lineage—rises like a tidal wave.

I don’t shift fully.

But my power does.

Light erupts from my skin in a blinding sphere, silver and blue, violent and alive. My hair lifts around me. My fingertips crackle with lightning. The Moonsand ripples outward at my feet.

And I reach Raevan just as Zarek’s claws slash downward.

I throw myself between them.

Silver power bursts out of me in a shield—a dome of raw magic that slams into Zarek mid-air. His claws hit it and screech as though dragging across stone. Sparks fly. Golden and silver light collide.

The shield holds.

Zarek’s attack rebounds off me, throwing him backward. He crashes into the dune with a snarl of pure shock.

Raevan stumbles, mid-shift, staring at me with wide, stunned eyes.

“Soraya?” he whispers hoarsely.

But I barely hear him. The power is too loud. It roars in my skull, in my ribs, in my fingertips. My skin glows like a living star, symbols of the Zehrael etched along my arms in molten-silver lines.

Vienne gasps behind me.

Kaide curses softly.

Even the Saren soldiers step back as if witnessing a goddess descend.

I breathe hard, power rippling around me.

“Soraya…” Raevan says again, louder this time. “What—what did you do?”

I look at him, my voice trembling.

“I protected you.”

Because he didn’t hesitate to protect me a hundred times. Because he would have died in that moment. Because Zarek hitting a half-shifted wolf is instant death.

Because I refused to watch anyone else I love die on Saren’s blades.

Zarek rises slowly from where the shield threw him, shaking sand from his fur. Golden light ripples around him like molten metal. He watches me with something I’ve never seen on his face.

Not rage. Not hunger. Not triumph. Fear.

“Soraya Zehrael,” he growls, voice deep in the alpha link that echoes across all wolves present. “What… are you?”

My throat tightens.

“Your downfall.”

Raevan steps beside me, breathing hard, still half-shifted, blood dripping down his arm.

“You saved my life,” he says quietly, still not taking his eyes off me.

I don’t know how to answer him.

Because the truth is too heavy.

The truth is: I would do it again. Even after everything. Even if we shouldn’t be anything, even if fate broke us apart and stitched us wrong, even if he is married and I am widowed and the world is collapsing at our feet—

I would save him every time.

The silver shield dissolves slowly, drifting upward like glowing mist. My legs shake. My magic buzzes under my skin, too alive, too bright. Raevan touches my elbow, steadying me.

Zarek watches the two of us with something sharp and unhinged behind his eyes.

He shifts.

Not slowly. Not gracefully. In a violent, cracking, tearing burst of bone and light—he shifts back into human form.

The fur recedes in strips. His body contorts into the familiar cruel lines. Blood streaks down his chest. His golden armor manifests around him in molten drops, re-forming instantly from magic.

He stands tall, human, furious—and afraid.

“This changes nothing,” he murmurs, though his voice trembles. “You think this trick of power makes you untouchable?”

I take a step forward, silver light crackling in my palm.

“This wasn’t a trick,” I say. “It was a warning.”

Zarek’s lips curl, exposing his teeth.

The battlefield holds its breath.

Ashra. Zehrael. Saren. All frozen, watching the three of us like we are the center of the world.

Zarek lifts his chin and glares at Raevan with poisonous pride.

“You are weaker than I expected,” he says. “Letting your Luna shield you like a pup.”

Raevan snarls.

“She’s not—”

But I cut him off.

“I am no one’s Luna.”

Zarek’s gaze snaps to me.

My voice grows steady, unshakable.

“I belong to no king. Not to Saren. Not to Ashra. Not to anyone.”

Zarek stares, chest rising and falling.

And then, slowly—deliberately—he wipes the blood from his mouth with the back of his hand.

The smile he gives me is colder than the desert night.

“We’ll see.”
