The Outcast Bride of the Alpha Warlord

CHAPTER 123 — Soraya Refuses

Ch. 123 / 150 Jan 08, 2026

POV: Soraya

The world hangs on a thread of silence.

Zarek’s hand is still outstretched toward me, fingers curled in invitation—as if he believes this moment is already his, as if he believes I will step willingly into the cage he polished with gold.

Around us, thousands of wolves—Zehrael, Ashra, Saren—stand frozen in the Moonsand. They breathe, but nothing else moves. Not a foot shifts. Not a blade lowers. Not a howl breaks the air.

It is the kind of silence that exists right before lightning splits the sky.

I inhale slowly, letting the thin desert air burn all the way into my lungs.

“No,” I whisper.

Zarek blinks.

At first, he thinks he misheard. Then his expression cracks—just slightly—into disbelief, the kind that comes before fury.

“No?” he repeats quietly.

I lift my chin.

“No.”

Kaide blows out a breath of relief. Vienne grabs her mouth with one hand, emotion bursting through her eyes. Raevan takes a step toward me—instinct, protection, devotion all tangled into something he can’t hide.

Zarek’s golden eyes darken.

“You refuse peace?” he asks softly.

“I refuse you.”

The desert wind picks up as if it heard me, swirling sand around my ankles, but it’s not the wind that changes the air—it’s me.

Something inside my chest opens.

Something I’ve held back for too long.

All the pain.

All the fury.

All the loss.

My mother’s death.

Baltimus’s blood on my hands.

A year of hiding.

A lifetime of running.

Everything Zarek stole.

Everything he still thinks he owns.

It detonates.

My heartbeat becomes a drum of raw power.

Zarek senses it and stiffens.

“Soraya,” Raevan says sharply, voice rising. “Control it—”

But I can’t.

I don’t want to.

The power surges upward, crashing through my ribs like a wave of molten silver. The Moonsand glows faintly beneath me. My fingers spark with light—pure, blinding, silver-white. The ground trembles as my power spills out of me in rings of shimmering air.

Zehrael warriors gasp and step back.

Ashra wolves brace themselves.

Saren soldiers clutch their weapons tighter.

And Zarek...

Zarek watches with a strange fascination, as if the monster he made has come home to him in a form even he didn’t predict.

“You always were magnificent,” he murmurs.

I laugh—sharp, shaking.

“You don’t get to say that.”

Electric threads of light swirl around my arms, weaving into glowing markings that crackle up my skin. My hair rises from my shoulders as if charged. My eyes burn with a heat I’ve only ever felt in fragments.

“Soraya,” Kaide calls, voice urgent now. “Steady—”

I spread my fingers and the power lashes outward.

A pulse of silver light blasts across the sands, knocking nearby warriors off balance. The dune beneath my feet shakes as if something ancient stirs beneath it. My wolf roars inside me—no longer afraid, no longer hiding.

I feel her.

All of her.

She is huge, and wild, and glowing with starlight.

She is the part of me I always feared.

The part Zarek wanted to break.

The part that Baltimus taught me to respect.

The part Raevan always sensed but never saw fully.

The power pours through me like floodwater unleashed.

Zarek folds his arms behind his back, watching as if this is entertainment.

“It was foolish of Baltimus to hide you,” he says calmly over the rising surge. “You were meant for more.”

“Don’t say his name.”

He smiles—because he sees the way grief spikes my magic.

“Baltimus,” he repeats softly. “Your husband died because he got in the way of destiny. Our destiny.”

My vision fractures.

Heat blasts behind my eyes.

Everything goes white.

I scream.

The power tears out of me in a column of silver-light, shooting into the sky, splitting the clouds like a blade of moonfire. The shockwave ripples through the entire Moonsand battlefield, knocking warriors to their knees. Wolves cower. Sand erupts upward in spirals.

Raevan stumbles back, shielding his face with one arm.

Kaide drops into a crouch.

Vienne is thrown down into the sand.

Only Zarek remains standing—barely—his cloak whipping wildly in the storm of my making.

This is what being Zehrael means. Not curses. Not fragility. Not defect. Power. Pure, ancient, terrifying power.

My voice cracks as I choke out the words.

“I will never marry you. I will never choose you. And I will never surrender.”

Zarek’s jaw tenses.

“Then you choose war.”

I meet his eyes, my own blazing silver.

“I choose myself.”

Raevan steps forward then—no cloak, no armor, just his bare skin streaked with battle scars and moonlight—and his voice booms across the sands.

“You heard her, Zarek,” he growls. “She. Said. No.”

Zarek lifts one brow.

“And you, Alpha Raevan? Will you stand between me and what is mine?”

Raevan bares his teeth in a way that is purely wolf.

“She was never yours.”

A flash of something dangerous crosses Zarek’s face. It’s not jealousy. It’s ownership, wounded pride, a god-complex cracked down the middle.

He turns back to me.

“Then answer fully,” he says, voice low. “Here. Now. Before all nations.”

His eyes pierce mine.

“Do you reject my claim, Soraya Zehrael?”

My power rises again, crackling with silver heat that tastes like fury and freedom. I straighten, feeling something ancient settle into my bones.

The sky pulses with moonlight though the sun still burns above us.

Every wolf on the battlefield watches.

Every breath holds.

“Yes,” I say.

My voice comes out like thunder.

“I reject you.”

The Moonsand glows so bright it almost blinds me.

Zarek’s eyes narrow—not with surprise, but with the cold certainty of a man who has already decided how the next chapter will be written.

“Then so be it.”

His hand drops.

The Saren army lifts their weapons. My power surges again, ready to strike. War is no longer coming. War is here.
