CHAPTER 149 — The Prophecy Fulfilled
POV: Soraya
The desert dawn breaks pink and molten gold, washing the dunes in colors that feel unreal—as if the entire land is holding its breath. Zehrael banners flutter beside Ashra ones, their symbols finally woven together for the first time in history. The Ashra fortress has been transformed for the ceremony: silk draped over pillars, moonstones lining the courtyard, incense burning in slow spirals toward the sky.
Peace.
A word we fought for with blood, tears, and nearly our lives.
I stand in one of the private chambers overlooking the courtyard, dressed in a flowing silver gown embroidered with Zehrael runes. My fingers graze the small swell of my stomach. Only Vienne and the healer know the truth. Raevan will know today. I will tell him after the vows—after the world becomes quiet and it’s only us.
A soft knock comes at the door.
Vienne slips in, cheeks flushed from the morning rush.
“You look breathtaking,” she says, placing her hands on my shoulders and turning me toward the mirror.
My breath catches.
I hardly recognize the woman reflected there. Strong. Radiant. Unbroken. A leader. A Luna. A soon-to-be wife. And a mother. Vienne smooths a strand of my hair behind my ear.
“Are you nervous?” she asks.
I exhale a shaky laugh.
“Yes.”
She gives me that knowing look—the one she perfected after surviving both war and Tazir’s terrible jokes.
“Nervous because you’re marrying the dread wolf,” she teases.
“Nervous because everything is changing,” I whisper.
Her eyes soften.
“It’s supposed to.”
A pause.
“We’re safe now, Soraya. You made sure of that.”
Another knock. This time deeper. Familiar.
Vienne grins, then slips out before I can stop her.
The door opens again, and Elder Hestrin enters with several elders following. They wear white ceremonial robes—the highest symbol of peace recognition. He bows deeply, which still startles me no matter how often it happens.
“Luna Soraya,” he says solemnly, “the council has convened. After witnessing your leadership, your victory, and the end of Zarek’s reign… we declare the prophecy fulfilled.”
My breath stops.
“The prophecy?” I whisper.
Hestrin nods.
“The Moon-Marked child who would end the desert’s suffering and bring unity. We did not understand it for generations. But we see now.”
I swallow, skin prickling with emotion as he continues.
“Your existence, your leadership, your mercy in exile instead of bloodshed… You sealed peace between Zehrael and Ashra. Between ash and moon. Between wolf and dune.”
He steps closer and places a glowing moonstone in my palm.
“This is the Seal of Peace. A symbol that the desert will know harmony for an entire generation. Perhaps longer.”
My throat tightens.
“I… I’m honored,” I manage.
Hestrin’s gaze softens with unexpected warmth.
“And today, when you and Alpha Raevan bond as mates, the unity will become permanent.”
As they leave, I remain rooted in place, staring at the moonstone. Its glow pulses softly—like the heartbeat beneath my ribs.
The prophecy. Fulfilled. Not by destiny alone, but by suffering, choice, and love. My eyes burn with unshed tears. Another soft knock sounds.
“May I come in?”
Raevan’s voice. Low. Rough. Unsteady.
I inhale deeply.
“Yes.”
He steps in wearing Ashra black trimmed with Zehrael silver. His hair is tied back, revealing the scar on his jaw. His eyes—those fierce, storm-blue eyes—soften when they land on me.
And for a breath, neither of us moves.
“You’re…” His voice falters. “You’re beautiful.”
Heat rushes up my neck.
“You clean up nicely yourself,” I whisper back.
He approaches slowly, as if afraid I’ll disappear again.
“Are you ready?” he asks softly.
I nod.
“I am.”
He hesitates, just for a moment.
“I meant—” His throat works. “Are you truly ready? For us? After everything we went through?”
I meet his gaze, and something inside me settles.
“Yes,” I say. “I’m ready.”
His breath leaves him in a trembling sigh.
We share a long, quiet moment, just breathing together. Then, without touching me, he whispers,
“I’ve waited so long to hear that.”
He offers me his arm.
“Walk with me?”
I slip my hand into the crook of his elbow.
“Yes.”
When we step onto the balcony that overlooks the courtyard, people cheer, thousands of voices blending into one wave. Wolves howl from the towers, a chorus echoing across the dunes.
Baltimus loved ceremonies like this.
My heart aches softly.
But this—this is a new chapter.
The elders guide us to the crescent-moon archway. Moonflowers bloom magically around it. The air is thick with incense and expectation.
Raevan faces me.
“Luna Soraya of Zehrael,” Elder Hestrin begins, “do you join with Alpha Raevan of Ashra—not as enemy, nor ally, but as equal, partner, and heart?”
I look into Raevan’s eyes and feel the world shrink to the two of us.
“I do,” I whisper.
Raevan’s jaw clenches with emotion.
“And Alpha Raevan,” Hestrin continues, “do you choose Luna Soraya—not as trophy, nor prophecy, but as the one your soul answers to?”
Raevan lifts my hand slowly.
“I do,” he says, voice raw.
Hestrin hands us the crescent rings—silver intertwined with obsidian.
“Bind your vows.”
Raevan slides mine onto my finger.
“With this vow,” he murmurs, “there will never be a corner of this desert where you walk alone.”
My breath shakes.
I slide his ring on.
“With this vow,” I whisper, “there will never be a battle you face without me by your side.”
The courtyard roars with applause. Wolves howl. Moonstones ignite in pale blue flame.
Raevan leans in, voice barely audible.
“Soraya…”
I whisper against his lips,
“We’re finally home.”
He kisses me—slow, reverent, full of everything we survived And the moon blesses our union. The prophecy, fulfilled.
