Sophia’s POV

Sitting at the dining table, I stared at the blank wedding planning notebook in front of me. My thoughts were swirling with everything we had to figure out, but all I could focus on was the heavy weight in my chest. The more I thought about it, the harder it felt to breathe. Ian was sitting across from me, his eyes fixed on the pages too, but I knew his mind was somewhere else. He hadn’t said much in the past hour, and it was starting to eat away at me.

“We need to set a date,” I finally said, breaking the thick silence between us.

Ian’s eyes lifted to meet mine, and I could see the strain in them. “Sophia, with everything that’s happening…”

I cut him off, my voice sharp. “I know what’s happening, Ian. I’m not blind to it. But we still have to do this. We can’t put our lives on hold forever because of the chaos around us.”

He sighed, leaning back in his chair, running a hand through his dark hair. “I just… I don’t want to rush anything. We’re under enough pressure already, and I don’t want to make things harder for you.”

I felt a flicker of frustration rise in me. “You think I don’t know that? You think I’m not feeling that pressure too? I’m the one carrying your baby, Ian. I feel the weight of all of this every single day.”

His expression softened slightly, but it was still tense between us. “I know, Sophia. I know. But I’m trying to protect you and our child. There are too many people who would use this against us.”

I pushed the notebook aside, crossing my arms. “I get that. But protecting us doesn’t mean we stop living. We need to find some kind of balance, or we’ll just fall apart under all of this.”

Ian leaned forward, resting his elbows on the table, his eyes intense. “Balance? How are we supposed to balance protecting our unborn child and planning a wedding when we can’t even guarantee our safety from day to day?”

“By not letting fear control everything we do,” I shot back. “Ian, I love you. But if we keep waiting for the perfect moment, it’ll never come. We have to start living our lives now, even if it’s not ideal.”

His jaw tightened, and for a moment, I thought he was going to argue with me. But then he sighed again, his shoulders slumping. “You’re right. I just… I hate that you’re being dragged into all of this. You deserve so much more than this constant danger, this endless uncertainty.”

I reached across the table, placing my hand over his. “I knew what I was getting into when I chose to be with you. And I don’t regret it. But we need to be in this together, Ian. We need to make decisions together.”

He squeezed my hand gently, his eyes softening as he looked at me. “I’m sorry. I’ve been trying to handle everything on my own because I didn’t want you to feel the weight of it. But you’re right—we need to face this as a team.”

I nodded, feeling the tension in my chest ease just a little. “We’ll figure it out. We always do.”

There was a long pause between us, the air still thick with unspoken worries. I could see the exhaustion in Ian’s face, the responsibility he carried every day. And I knew he was right—we were under more pressure than ever before. The attacks hadn’t stopped, and with my pregnancy becoming more obvious, the stakes were only getting higher.

“I just want our baby to be safe,” I whispered, my voice barely audible. “And I want to know that we’ll have a future together.”

Ian’s grip on my hand tightened, his eyes locking with mine. “We will. I swear it, Sophia. I will protect you both with everything I have.”

I wanted to believe him, and part of me did. But another part of me, the part that had seen the dangers we faced firsthand, couldn’t help but feel doubt creeping in. “What if it’s not enough? What if no matter what we do, we can’t protect our child from the world we’re a part of?”

Ian’s gaze darkened. “It has to be enough,” he said, his voice firm. “I won’t let anything happen to you or our baby. I’ll tear apart anyone who tries.”

The fierceness in his words sent a shiver down my spine, but it didn’t fully ease my fears. “I know you’d do anything to protect us, but that’s exactly what scares me. You can’t take on the world by yourself, Ian. And I don’t want you losing yourself in the process.”

He shook his head, his hand gripping mine tighter. “I’m not losing myself. I’m doing what I have to, to keep you safe. You and our child mean everything to me.”

I pulled my hand away, standing up from the table, needing to put some distance between us. “But you’re shutting me out, Ian! You’re keeping things from me because you think it’ll protect me, but it’s only making things harder.”

He stood up too, crossing the room in a few quick strides to stand in front of me. “I’m not trying to shut you out. I’m trying to keep you safe from everything that’s going on.”

I looked up at him, feeling tears prick at the corners of my eyes. “But I need to be part of this. I need to know what’s happening so we can face it together. You can’t keep carrying all of this on your own.”

Ian reached out, cupping my face in his hands, his expression filled with a mix of love and frustration. “I just don’t want you to get hurt, Sophia. I don’t want to see you suffering because of the decisions I’ve made.”

I leaned into his touch, my heart aching at the raw emotion in his voice. “We’re in this together, Ian. Whatever happens, we face it as a team. You don’t have to protect me from everything. I’m stronger than you think.”

He closed his eyes for a moment, taking a deep breath before opening them again and nodding. “You’re right. I’ve been trying to handle too much on my own. But no more. We’ll face this together.”

I smiled softly, feeling some of the tension between us ease. “That’s all I’m asking for.”

Ian kissed me gently, his lips lingering against mine for a moment before he pulled back, his forehead resting against mine. “I love you, Sophia. More than anything in this world.”

“I love you too,” I whispered, my heart swelling with the truth of those words.

“What do we do next?” I asked quietly, stepping back slightly to look up at him.

Ian sighed, running a hand through his hair. “We focus on the wedding, on building our future. And we stay alert. The attacks haven’t stopped, and we need to be prepared for whatever comes next.”

I nodded, knowing he was right. “And the baby?”

His gaze softened at the mention of our child, and he placed a hand gently on my growing belly. “We’ll protect them, no matter what. But we also need to figure out who’s behind these attacks. I’m not taking any chances with our family’s safety.”

I placed my hand over his, feeling a mix of fear and determination rise within me. “We’ll figure it out. Together.”

Sophia’s POV

The morning of the wedding was bright and warm, the kind of day that makes you want to believe in fairytales. I stood in front of the full-length mirror in the small bedroom at the back of the church, staring at my reflection in disbelief. The white dress hugged my body perfectly, flowing down into soft waves of silk. My hands trembled as I reached up to adjust the veil, my breath catching in my throat.

Jenny was behind me, smiling as she fussed over the last details. She looked radiant, glowing with the kind of happiness that only your best friend can have when she’s seeing you off into the next chapter of your life.

“You look beautiful,” she said softly, her eyes shimmering. “Like a princess.”

I laughed nervously, trying to steady my heartbeat. “I don’t feel like one. I feel like I’m going to throw up.”

Jenny chuckled, stepping closer to me and adjusting the veil over my shoulders. “You’re marrying Ian today. The man you’ve fought for, the man who loves you more than life itself. Everything else will fall into place.”

I turned to look at her, my hands still shaking. “It’s just… I never thought it would happen like this. It feels too good to be real.”

She gave me a soft, reassuring smile. “It is real, Sophia. And you deserve every moment of it.”

There was a knock on the door, and my mom poked her head in, her face lighting up when she saw me. “Oh, sweetheart, you look stunning!”

I felt a lump form in my throat as she walked over to me, her eyes welling with tears. She reached out and cupped my face, her hands warm against my skin. “I can’t believe my little girl is getting married.”

I swallowed hard, trying to keep my emotions in check. “I can’t believe it either.”

Mom pulled me into a hug, and for a moment, I let myself relax into her familiar embrace. It had been so hard keeping so many things from her and Dad, but today was about love, not secrets. Today was about starting a new life with Ian.

“Your dad’s waiting outside,” Mom said as she pulled back, wiping at her eyes. “He’s ready to walk you down the aisle.”

I nodded, my heart pounding in my chest. “Okay. I’m ready.”

Jenny gave me a wink and smoothed out the train of my dress one last time. “Let’s get you married, Mrs. Grant.”

The title sent a rush of warmth through me, and I couldn’t help but smile. Mrs. Grant. I liked the sound of that.

As I stepped out of the room and made my way toward the church entrance, the soft hum of voices filled the air. The ceremony was small, just family and a few close friends. Ian and I had decided to keep it simple, avoiding anything that might draw too much attention. Our life was complicated enough without adding more drama.

Dad was waiting for me at the entrance, his face a mixture of pride and nerves. He gave me a quick smile as he held out his arm. “You look beautiful, honey.”

“Thanks, Dad.” I took his arm, my heart hammering in my chest.

The doors to the small church swung open, and the soft strains of music floated through the air. I took a deep breath as we started down the aisle, my eyes immediately locking onto Ian at the altar. He looked breathtaking in his black suit, his eyes fixed on me with a mixture of love and awe. For a moment, all the doubts and fears melted away, leaving only the two of us in this perfect moment.

As we reached the front, Dad placed my hand in Ian’s, giving him a firm nod before stepping back. Ian’s hand was warm and strong as he pulled me closer, his eyes never leaving mine.

“You’re breathtaking,” he whispered, his voice thick with emotion.

I smiled, my heart swelling in my chest. “You’re not so bad yourself.”

The officiant cleared his throat, drawing our attention. “Dearly beloved, we are gathered here today to witness the union of Ian Grant and Sophia Anderson in holy matrimony…”

His voice faded into the background as I focused on Ian, my mind racing with everything that had led us to this moment. The secrets, the danger, the love that had grown between us—it all came crashing down in a wave of emotion.

“Ian,” I whispered as the officiant paused for our vows. “I love you.”

His eyes softened, and he squeezed my hand gently. “I love you too, Sophia. More than anything.”

The vows were a blur, spoken in soft, trembling voices, but the meaning behind them was crystal clear. When the officiant finally said the words, “You may kiss the bride,” Ian wasted no time in pulling me into his arms, his lips capturing mine in a kiss that was as sweet as it was full of promise.

Applause broke out around us as we pulled away, both of us grinning like fools. Ian leaned down, his forehead resting against mine. “We did it,” he murmured, his voice full of awe.

“We did,” I whispered back, my heart bursting with happiness.

The reception was held in a small garden behind the church, fairy lights twinkling overhead as our family and friends gathered around to celebrate. Jenny was buzzing with excitement, pulling me into a hug every five minutes and gushing about how perfect everything was.

“I’m just so happy for you!” she exclaimed, bouncing on her heels. “I mean, this is it! You’re married! Can you believe it?”

I laughed, shaking my head. “No, I can’t. It still feels like a dream.”

“Well, it’s not,” she grinned. “You’re officially Mrs. Grant. And just wait until the honeymoon.”

A blush crept up my cheeks as I glanced over at Ian, who was deep in conversation with Jacob and Mike. He caught my eye and winked, sending a rush of warmth through me.

Jenny nudged me playfully. “You’re going to have the most amazing time.”

I rolled my eyes, but couldn’t stop the smile from spreading across my face. “You’re impossible.”

As the night wore on, I found myself standing by the edge of the garden, watching the people I loved laugh and dance. Ian came up beside me, slipping his arm around my waist.

“Penny for your thoughts?” he asked, his voice low and soft.

I leaned into him, resting my head on his shoulder. “I’m just… happy. It’s all so perfect.”

He kissed the top of my head, his arm tightening around me. “I’m glad. I want you to always feel like this, Sophia. Safe. Loved.”

I turned to look up at him, my heart swelling with love. “As long as I’m with you, I will.”

We stayed like that for a while, watching the stars twinkle overhead and the soft glow of the fairy lights illuminate the garden. The sound of laughter and music filled the air, and for the first time in a long time, everything felt right.

As the night wound down, Ian and I slipped away quietly, leaving the party to continue without us. We walked hand in hand through the quiet streets.

“I can’t believe we’re married,” I said softly, glancing over at him.

He smiled, his eyes shining in the moonlight. “Believe it, Mrs. Grant.”

I laughed, the sound light and carefree. “I like the sound of that.”

He pulled me close, pressing a soft kiss to my lips. “So do I.”

We made our way back to the condo, the reality of our new life together slowly sinking in. There was still so much to face, but for now, we had this moment. This perfect, quiet moment where nothing else mattered but the love we shared.

As we stepped inside, Ian turned to me, his eyes filled with tenderness. “This is just the beginning, Sophia. Our beginning.”

I smiled, my heart full of hope and love. “I know. And I can’t wait to see where it takes us.”
