Jenny’s POV

The news hit me like a tidal wave. I stared down at the test in my hand, my heart pounding in my chest, unsure whether to scream in shock or laugh in disbelief. Pregnant. I was pregnant.

Jacob was in the kitchen, making us a late breakfast. I could hear the soft clatter of pans and the gentle hum of music from the living room, but I couldn’t move. For a moment, I felt frozen in place, my thoughts racing.

We weren’t trying for a baby. We weren’t ever going to try. I was a vampire and even though Sophia was able to get pregnant, it didn’t mean I could too. But here it was, plain as day. The test didn’t lie.

I felt a mixture of emotions swirl through me—happiness, fear, excitement. All at once, it seemed like everything in my life was about to change. But most of all, I was happy. I was so happy. Everything that had happened the past year ran through my mind all at once. The attacks, falling in love with Jacob, turning into a vampire, fearing that Jacob would leave me for a woman who could bear his kids. And now, this. This… this felt like a silver lining. Like things are finally better. Like we were moving towards a future we could shape ourselves.

With a deep breath, I walked out of the bathroom, holding the test behind my back, trying to keep my face neutral. But Jacob, with his sharp eyes and instinct, immediately picked up on my expression. He turned from the stove, his brow furrowed.

“What’s wrong?” His voice was gentle, but there was an edge of concern. I wanted to jump and scream and tell him it was nothing to worry about but instead I took in deep breaths.

I swallowed, trying to find the words. My hand trembled slightly as I pulled the test from behind my back and held it out to him. His eyes flicked to it, then back to me. For a split second, he didn’t react, his face blank with surprise. Then, slowly, a smile began to spread across his face.

“Jenny, are you serious?” His voice was a mixture of shock and joy.

I nodded, biting my lip, unable to contain my own smile. “Yeah, it looks like we’re having a baby.”

Jacob’s reaction was immediate—he dropped the spatula in his hand and crossed the room in two strides, sweeping me into his arms. He lifted me off the ground and spun me around, laughing. His happiness was contagious, and soon I found myself laughing with him.

“We’re going to be parents,” he said, his voice full of awe as he set me down, his hands cradling my face. “Can you believe that?”

I shook my head, tears springing to my eyes. “No, but I’m so excited. I didn’t know how you’d react.”

Jacob cupped my face, his thumbs brushing away the tears that threatened to fall. “Jenny, baby this is amazing. I mean, yeah, it’s a shock, but I couldn’t be happier. I’ve always wanted this—us, a family. And now it’s happening.”

I leaned into his touch, my heart swelling. “I’m scared, though,” I admitted softly. “With everything that’s happened, with everything that could still happen…”

Jacob pulled me close, pressing his lips to my forehead. “Hey, we’ll figure it out. Together. No matter what, we’ll make sure our child is safe. I promise.”

His reassurance soothed some of the worries that had been creeping into my mind. With Jacob and I together, I knew we could face anything. Still, the thought of bringing a child into the world we lived in—the dangers of the vampire realm, the constant threat of attacks—was scary.

“We’ll need to stay in the human realm,” I said, voicing the thought that had been at the back of my mind. “It’s safer here, away from the vampire politics and… everything else.”

Jacob nodded, his expression serious. “Agreed. I don’t want to raise our child in that environment. We’ll find a place here, in the human world, where we can just be… normal.”

Normal. The word felt foreign on my tongue after everything we had been through, but it was exactly what I wanted. A normal life. A home, a family. For the first time in what felt like forever, it seemed like it might be possible.

We spent the rest of the day talking about the future. Jacob suggested looking for a house, something a little more permanent than our current condo. “Somewhere with a yard,” he said with a grin, “so our kid can run around.”

I laughed, loving the thought of it. “I want a garden, too. A place where we can grow flowers, maybe even some vegetables.”

Jacob nodded enthusiastically. “Done. Whatever you want.”

It felt surreal, planning for a future that didn’t involve danger or fighting for survival. A future where we could just be ourselves, where we could raise our child in peace. But there was still a part of me that worried. The vampire world had a way of dragging us back in, no matter how hard we tried to stay out of it.

“I can’t help but think about the what-ifs,” I confessed, leaning into him. “What if something happens? What if the vampires or werewolves come after us again?”

Jacob took my hand, his thumb rubbing soothing circles on my palm. “We’ll be ready for whatever comes. But this time, we’re not alone. We’ve got allies. And we’ll make sure to stay out of the fray as much as we can. Our priority is this baby, Jenny. Nothing else.”

I nodded, feeling a bit more reassured. I knew Jacob meant it. He would do anything to protect our family, just as I would.

A couple of days later, we went house hunting, and it felt like a dream. We found a cozy place just outside of town, with enough space for the family we were about to start. The excitement in Jacob’s eyes as we toured the house made my heart swell. He was already talking about converting one of the rooms into a nursery.

“We’ll paint it something neutral,” he suggested as we stood in what would be the baby’s room. “Maybe light yellow, something warm and inviting.”

I smiled at him, loving the way he was already planning every detail. “I was thinking the same thing.”

“Really?” He asked with a laugh as we both began walking out of the baby’s room. “You and I share the same mind.”

“I know, I know,” I replied with a giggle.

Few days after we moved into the house, my pregnancy began to show. Jacob placed his hand on my belly with an expression that seemed like he was in awe. “It’s real,” he whispered.

“It is,” I confirmed, laughing lightly.

“We’re going to be okay,” he said softly. “No matter what, we’ve got each other and we’ve got this baby. That’s all that matters isn’t it?”

I nodded, resting my head on his. “It is. That’s all that matters.” I leaned my head on his shoulder, breathing softly and rubbing my belly. He was right. We were building a life—a family. And that was something worth fighting for.
