The Dark Don’s Punished Bride

Chapter 139

Ch. 139 / 150 Dec 04, 2025

Smoke chokes the stairwell. Sirens scream. The building groans like a dying animal.

Damian sits on the concrete with Aria in his arms, gripping her so tightly she can feel the tremor in his bones. His chest rises and falls too fast, breath ragged, the edges of panic still scraping his throat. She’s never seen him like this—never seen Damian Wolfe look afraid.

His forehead presses to the side of her head, his breath hot against her hair.

“Aria… Aria…” He repeats her name like it’s the only thing keeping him breathing.

She cups his jaw with both hands, forcing him to look at her.

“I’m alive,” she whispers. “Look at me. I’m alive.”

Damian lifts his head—and the look in his eyes is not anger, not fury, but something far more dangerous: pure, unfiltered terror. Terror of losing her. Terror of almost failing her. Terror of the world touching what he has claimed as his.

His voice breaks. “I thought you were gone.”

Aria strokes the side of his face, feeling the tension vibrating through him. His pupils are blown wide, hands still shaking against her back.

“I was trapped,” she says softly. “But you found me.”

“You shouldn’t have needed me to,” he snaps—except the words crack at the edges, shattering. “I should’ve gotten to you sooner. I should’ve—”

She cuts him off by pressing her lips to his cheek. A soft, anchoring kiss.

“Damian,” she murmurs against his skin, “I’m here.”

He exhales like he’s been punched. His hands move—one to the back of her neck, one to her waist—dragging her closer until she’s almost sitting in his lap.

His voice is low, wrecked. “They touched my tower. They touched you.”

And there it is—the shift Aria has felt coming for weeks. The breaking point. The moment Damian Wolfe stops being the controlled, calculating king and becomes something rawer. Older. More primal. A man whose power is fused to his fear of losing the one thing he cannot replace.

Aria wipes dust from his cheek with her thumb. “You saved me.”

“I should never have had to,” he says again, furious with himself, furious with the world, furious with whatever gods dared try to take her away.

His fingers dig into her waist. “I’m not letting you out of my sight again.”

Aria meets his eyes. Really meets them. “Damian… you can’t protect me from everything.”

He lets out a quiet, broken laugh. “Watch me.”

“But I want to fight with you,” she whispers.

He freezes.

Slowly—terribly slowly—Damian lifts a hand and cradles the back of her head.

“You almost died,” he says, voice hoarse. “And all I could think was: if she dies, I die.”

Aria’s heart stops.

He’s never said something so naked. So unarmored. So close to admitting the truth he avoids like a bullet.

He presses his forehead to hers again, eyes closed.

“I can’t lose you,” he breathes. “Not to them. Not to anyone. Not after everything…”

Aria’s hands slide to his chest, feeling his heartbeat slamming against his ribs. “You won’t.”

He opens his eyes—dark, burning, terrified.

“How can you say that when the whole city wants you dead?”

“Because you’re here,” she says. “Because you always come for me.”

The building shakes again. Dust falls. Sirens howl.

But in the center of the destruction, Damian’s thumb brushes her cheekbone—slow, reverent, almost worshipping.

He whispers, barely audible:

“You’re the only thing in this world I’ve ever been afraid of.”

Aria smiles faintly, touching her forehead to his. “And I’m not leaving.”

Something in Damian shatters—quietly, beautifully. He pulls her into him with a kind of desperation that feels like prayer. Like surrender. Like confession.

His lips graze her temple, then her cheek, then the corner of her mouth—not quite a kiss, but close.

Too close.

“Aria,” he murmurs, voice breaking, “I swear to God—whoever did this is going to beg for death.”

And for the first time, Aria doesn’t fear that promise.

She believes it.

She believes in him.

She believes they will burn the world together if they must.
