The Dark Don’s Punished Bride

Chapter 134

Ch. 134 / 150 Dec 04, 2025

The threat arrives in the quiet between storms.

Wolfe Tower hums under emergency generators, shadows cutting hard lines across the marble floors. Somewhere below, guards march, guns click, security feeds glitch from the citywide blackout. But the penthouse is silent—too silent—until Jaxon bursts in holding a black envelope sealed with a silver serpent.

Damian snatches it from his hand like he already knows it’s bad news.

Aria watches from across the room, pulse already tightening. Damian tears the seal, eyes sharp as razors.

He reads.

Stops.

Something cold and ancient shutters across his face.

“What is it?” Aria asks, stepping closer.

He doesn’t answer.

Not immediately.

He crumples the letter in his fist, the black wax smearing across his palm like bruised blood. “The Serpent Circle,” he says finally, voice a low snarl. “They’ve crossed into Manhattan.”

Jaxon swears under his breath. “They’ve been quiet for years. Why now?”

Damian lifts his eyes. They are no longer human. “Because of her.”

Aria freezes. “What did the letter say?”

He walks to her slowly, like he’s approaching something precious and breakable and already slipping through his fingers.

“They want me to surrender my territory,” Damian says. “Or they take you.”

Aria’s stomach drops.

Jaxon adds, “Serpent Circle doesn’t bluff. They’re traffickers. Assassins. Old-world mercenaries. They don’t stop until someone is dead.”

Damian’s jaw flexes once, twice, like he’s swallowing a tidal wave of violence. “They won’t touch her.”

He turns to Jaxon. “Seal the tower. Double every guard. No one enters or leaves without my permission.”

Jaxon hesitates. “Damian—”

“Do it,” Damian snaps.

Jaxon obeys, leaving them alone.

The silence between them burns.

Aria steps forward. “Let me help.”

“You already are,” Damian says, but not kindly. “By staying alive.”

“I mean in the strategy room,” she insists. “Let me plan with you. Let me—”

“No.” The word hits like a slammed door. “You’re not stepping foot anywhere near a battlefield.”

Aria crosses her arms. “This isn’t Navarro’s cage. I’m not a child. And you don’t get to decide—”

“I do,” Damian growls, stepping into her space, “when the enemy wants your head in a box.”

Her breath catches. Fear, yes—but anger too. “Damian, I’ve survived Navarro. I’ve survived Sabrina. I’ve survived every Syndicate boss who wanted me dead. I’m not helpless.”

“You’re not expendable,” he fires back, voice shaking with an emotion he can’t hide.

Aria swallows. “Neither are you.”

He laughs—a rough, broken sound. “I was expendable the moment I was born. You weren’t.”

“That’s not true.”

“It is,” he says, chest rising and falling hard. “And you know it.”

Aria steps closer, refusing to back down. “Stop treating me like something fragile. Like I’m glass.”

“You are,” Damian whispers. “And they want to shatter you.”

His hand rises before he can stop it, fingers brushing her jaw with a trembling tenderness that destroys her.

Aria holds his gaze. “If you try to hide me in a tower again, you’re going to lose me.”

Damian stiffens.

The accusation hangs between them like a weapon.

“You think I don’t know that?” he whispers, stepping so close their breaths merge. “Every time I touch you, I feel it. Every time you look at me, I’m reminded I can lose you in a hundred different ways.”

He presses his forehead to hers, voice breaking. “And I can’t survive that.”

Aria’s lips part. “You don’t have to protect me from everything.”

He laughs again, softer this time, but no less agonized. “That’s the problem, Aria. I don’t know how to stop.”

He pulls away sharply—like the confession burned him—running a hand through his hair, pacing the room like a wounded predator.

“They want you,” he mutters. “So they’ll burn the city to get you. And if I let you stand beside me on the field—if something happens to you—”

His voice fractures.

Aria steps behind him, placing her hand at the center of his spine.

He freezes.

Like always.

“You’re not the only one terrified,” she murmurs. “Every time you go out there alone, every time you walk into fire without me—I’m the one left wondering if I’m losing the only person who ever fought for me.”

Damian turns.

Slowly.

As if afraid she’ll disappear when he looks.

“Aria…”

She steps even closer. “Let me fight with you.”

“Absolutely not.”

Her palm lifts to his cheek, and he sucks in a sharp breath like the smallest touch liquefies him.

“You taught me,” Aria whispers. “You trained me. You made me your Second. You dragged me into this world and shaped me into something that can survive it. Let me use what you gave me.”

“Not for this,” Damian breathes. “Not against them.”

“Damian—”

“You don’t understand,” he cuts in, voice finally cracking. “The Serpent Circle doesn’t take prisoners. They don’t negotiate. They take trophies. They cut pieces off their enemies and send them back as warnings.”

He cups her jaw with both hands, desperate and shaking. “Do you think I could survive seeing your blood in their hands? Your body? Your scream?”

Her breath breaks.

He leans in, voice trembling. “Do you understand what I would become if they touched you?”

Aria whispers, “You’re already becoming it.”

Damian flinches.

The truth hangs heavy.

His obsession has teeth now.

Sharp ones.

She continues softly, “But I’m not running. I’m not hiding. And I won’t let you fight alone.”

Damian squeezes his eyes shut.

Then—

He pulls her into his chest, arms banding around her as if he’s holding the last living piece of his soul. Aria melts into the embrace, burying her face in his neck. His heart thunders against her skin.

“Aria…” he whispers, voice raw, “I’m afraid.”

She closes her eyes. “So am I.”

He exhales a shaky breath. “But I’ll protect you. I swear it.”

“And I’ll protect you,” she answers quietly.

He stiffens again—because no one has ever said those words to him.

Not in his whole life.

Slowly, Damian lifts her chin, brushing her lips with his thumb. “You don’t understand the hell that’s coming.”

Aria nods. “Then teach me.”

He stares at her like she’s something impossible and holy.

Something he was never meant to have.

Finally, he whispers the words that seal everything:

“Then we go to war together.”

Aria breathes in sharply.

Damian pulls her into a kiss—not hungry, not violent, but slow and solemn and devastating, like a vow carved into bone.

Outside, Manhattan crackles under the assault of the Serpent Circle.

Inside Wolfe Tower, a king and his Second prepare to unleash hell.

Together.
