The Cruel Emperor’s Bride

Chapter 128

Ch. 128 / 150 Dec 05, 2025

Ariaxa hit the ground hard—but the shrine caught her.

A surge of ancient power burst beneath her palms, the stone warm and pulsing like flesh, like a heartbeat rooted in the world’s bones. The gold-black sigils spiraling across its surface flared—

—and her bond mark ignited.

Pain tore through her chest, molten, unbearable.

She screamed.

The cavern walls shook.

Rocks split.

The runes feeding the necromantic ritual shattered like brittle bone.

Kaedan was on his feet instantly, blood running down his jaw.

“ARIA!” he roared, sprinting toward her.

But the shrine reacted—

A blast of Sun-Eclipse energy rippled outward, slamming into him and launching him back into the cavern wall.

He slid to the ground, coughing blood, wings spasming.

“NO—no—don’t touch her—” he rasped, fighting the force pinning him down.

Ariaxa tried to reach for him.

Her arms wouldn’t obey.

Her fingers glowed.

Her veins glowed.

Her bones glowed.

Memories crashed into her skull like tidal waves.

Not hers.

Queens.

Dozens.

Hundreds.

Sun-throned women with crowns of fire, each living and dying across centuries.

Ariaxa gasped for breath as their voices echoed inside her skull, layered and endless.

“We guarded the world.”

“We fell by betrayal.”

“We rose again in prophecy.”

“You are the first in a thousand years to awaken us.”

Her body arched, back bending in agony.

Kaedan roared her name, fighting to stand.

“ARIA—COME BACK TO ME—”

The shrine pulsed—

rejecting every ounce of him.

Rejecting the Night.

Rejecting the curse in his blood.

Ariaxa’s magic answered instead.

Sunfire.

Nightshadow.

Colliding, shattering, fusing.

Her eyes snapped open—

Blazing gold in one iris, midnight black in the other.

Her hair lifted around her like a solar corona, strands crackling with star-light. A wind that came from no air began to swirl around her, fueled by the shrine’s awakening.

Her skin shimmered with light-veins, threads of molten silver and gold weaving down her arms and across her throat. Her bond mark flared into a glowing eclipse sigil, burning through her clothing like branded fire.

The cavern trembled.

Runes cracked.

Ghosts fled back into the walls.

Riven, bleeding and pale above on the fractured ledge, whispered:

“Goddess spare us… she’s transforming.”

The Triarch mage shrieked in triumph and terror.

“THE SUN-ECLIPSE QUEEN—REBORN!”

Ariaxa rose involuntarily—

lifted by pure magic, hovering inches above the shrine.

Her voice was not hers when she spoke.

It was layered with ancient tones.

Queens upon queens speaking through her throat.

“I see,” she whispered.

Kaedan staggered toward her again, broken but determined. “ARIA—FIGHT IT—DON’T LET IT TAKE YOU—”

Her gaze snapped to him.

Not cold.

Not cruel.

But terrifyingly vast.

“Kaedan,” she breathed—

her voice glowing in the air like liquid light.

“I feel everything.”

He froze.

“What… do you feel?” he whispered.

Her gaze flickered, her dual-colored irises shimmering.

“Your fear,” she said softly. “Your love. Your curse. Every moment you ever bled. Every memory you ever buried. I feel you.”

His knees almost buckled.

The shrine pulsed again.

And a voice—

older than kingdoms—

echoed through the chamber.

Not through the air.

Through Ariaxa’s bones.

Through Kaedan’s soul.

“YOU HAVE AWAKENED, ARIAXA SOLEN.”

Her head snapped back, eyes blazing brighter.

Kaedan shouted, “STOP—YOU’RE HURTING HER—”

The shrine replied through Ariaxa’s shaking lips:

“THE SUN-ECLIPSE BLOODLINE HAS RETURNED.”

The cavern shook so violently rocks cascaded from the ceiling. Kaedan shielded his head, desperately trying to reach her.

Ariaxa choked on a sob as the transformation deepened, veins of gold-black spreading over her chest and throat. She convulsed, hands clutching the shrine.

“MAKE IT STOP—” she cried.

Kaedan slammed against the invisible barrier. “LET ME IN—LET ME TOUCH HER—”

But the shrine spoke again.

“THE QUEEN MUST DECIDE.”

Ariaxa gasped, tears evaporating before they fell.

“Decide… what?”

Silence.

Then—

Every sigil in the cavern lit up.

The shrine’s power coiled around her heart.

The air parted.

And the question came:

“Do you choose the empire…

or Kaedan?”

The words echoed through the chamber like a death sentence.

Kaedan froze.

Ariaxa’s breath hitched.

The bond pulsed so painfully she almost screamed again.

She reached toward Kaedan with a trembling hand—

But the shrine held her in place.

Her heart seared with gold-black fire as the question repeated:

“Choose.”
