The Cruel Emperor’s Bride

Chapter 142

Ch. 142 / 150 Dec 05, 2025

Ariaxa did not fall into darkness.

She fell into everything.

Color shattered around her — shards of violet, gold, black, and impossible hues that didn’t exist in any mortal spectrum. The rift wasn’t absence. It was the inside of a broken mirror of reality, a cathedral of fractured timelines and forgotten worlds.

Gravity had no meaning here.

Up and down were suggestions, not rules.

Her wings flared reflexively, but the currents swallowed them, tossing her like a leaf in a cosmic storm.

Kaedan crashed into her mid-fall.

His arms wrapped around her ribs, his wings enveloping her like a shield, his body a barrier as chaos swallowed them whole.

“Ariaxa—!”

His voice was torn apart by the wind, then stitched back together by the bond.

She felt his panic—

raw, feral, shaking.

For a heartbeat, they spun through a storm of torn memories and splintered stars. Ghost-images flickered around them:

A past that wasn’t.

A future that could be.

A nightmare that might have already happened in another version of the world.

Kaedan dragged her tighter against him, teeth bared.

“I’ll shield you—”

“No!” Ariaxa twisted in his grip, her voice trembling with agony as she forced his arms away. “If I lose consciousness, we die. You can’t protect me from this.”

The void reacted to her voice.

It hummed.

Twisted.

Listened.

Kaedan grabbed her wrist again anyway.

“I’m not letting you go,” he snarled.

Their bodies collided again—chest to chest, heartbeat to heartbeat—every touch sparking unstable magic between them. Their bond pulsed hot, violent, then cold, as if struggling against the fabric of the rift.

Ariaxa felt herself fracturing—

not physically,

but mentally.

Whispers slithered through the swirling prism around them, brushing against her mind like cold fingers.

“YOU WILL FAIL.”

“YOU WERE NEVER ENOUGH.”

“YOU WEREN’T MEANT TO LIVE.”

“HE WILL DIE. AGAIN. AND AGAIN.”

“YOU CANNOT SAVE HIM.”

Her breath stuttered.

Images swarmed her vision—Kaedan lying broken on the Blood Court floor, Kaedan chained in sunlight, Kaedan coughing blood, Kaedan falling from the sky.

“No—no—NO—!”

Kaedan heard her panic through the bond.

He tightened his grip on her waist, cupping the back of her head with shaking fingers.

“Ariaxa! Stay with me—look at me—LOOK AT ME!”

His forehead collided with hers, breath hot against her lips despite the freezing cosmic wind.

But the void wasn’t done.

It turned on him.

A new cyclone of illusions battered Kaedan’s mind.

Ariaxa—walking away.

Ariaxa—choosing the Solar throne without him.

Ariaxa—laughing in another man’s arms.

Ariaxa—looking at him with pity.

Ariaxa—collared again, by someone stronger, calling his name while he couldn’t reach her.

Ariaxa—dying in his arms, over and over, slipping through his fingers like ash.

His eyes snapped wide.

“No,” he whispered, voice breaking in a way she’d never heard. “Don’t leave me—don’t—Ariaxa, please—”

His hands trembled harder.

She grabbed his face, pulling him in until her lips brushed his.

“I’m right here,” she panted. “Kaedan—LOOK at me. They’re lies.”

Her words hit the bond like a surge of heat.

He gasped.

The illusions flickered—

but did not die.

His hands clenched on her bare skin, desperation turning every touch bruising. His breath came fast, ragged, every inhale stealing from panic, every exhale fumbling for control.

“Ariaxa,” he rasped, voice like a blade against glass. “If I lose you in here—if something takes you from me—I won’t survive.”

She pressed her forehead to his, wings curling inward against the raging cosmic storm.

“You’re not losing me,” she whispered. “Not here. Not now.”

Their lips hovered—one breath apart, trembling from shock and fury and need.

Raw, desperate intimacy crackled between them, their bond sparking gold and black where their bodies touched.

The void seemed to pause.

Observe.

Then—

It screamed.

Sound and no-sound erupted around them, a shriek of cosmic agony. The prism colors fractured again, collapsing inward as if the universe itself convulsed.

Ariaxa clutched Kaedan’s shoulder with one hand and flung her other arm outward, forcing her Sun-Eclipse magic into a shield of burning gold-black flame around them.

She cried out as power flooded through her, searing hot, ripping along her veins.

Kaedan braced behind her, wings wrapping around both of them as added protection.

The shield sizzled.

The void pressed harder.

Their bond strained—

SNAP. THRUM. SNAP. THRUM.

Kaedan roared into her shoulder as the pressure crushed him.

Ariaxa choked as the magic tried to tear her apart from the inside out.

“We can’t hold this—!” he shouted.

She gritted her teeth.

“We have to.”

But she felt it.

Her strength buckling.

Her magic flickering.

Her wings losing shape.

Her consciousness threatening to tear in two.

Then—

Everything stilled.

The shards of broken worlds froze mid-spiral.

The storm went silent.

The illusions evaporated.

Kaedan stiffened.

“Ariaxa…” he whispered. “What is that?”

She felt it before she saw it.

Something ancient.

Something massive.

Something older than the realms themselves.

A presence stirred in the deep void beneath them, rippling through the fractured dimension like a slow, awakening breath.

The cosmic colors dimmed.

The rift contracted.

The very fabric of reality seemed to vibrate with an impossible heartbeat.

A shadow of unimaginable scale unfurled below them—too big to see, too big to comprehend. Like the silhouette of a celestial beast slumbering under the skin of the universe.

Ariaxa’s wings flickered out completely.

Her breath caught.

She clung to Kaedan—not from fear, but from awe.

Then—

A voice.

Not spoken.

Not heard.

Felt.

A resonance that slid through her bones and into her soul.

Ariaxa Solen.

Sun-Eclipse Queen.

Daughter of the Two Realms.

Kaedan choked on a breath as her name echoed inside both their minds.

The void shuddered.

The presence grew closer.

And then—

It called to her again.

“ARIA—XA.”

Long. Drawn out.

Ancient.

Terrifying.

Reverent.

A colossal force awakening at the bottom of the cosmic rift—

calling Ariaxa by name.
