"I will melt if you continue gawking at me like that. Your eyes are burning me down, Callan."
Orla whined, tossing a cushion at her husband. He caught the cushion and flapped the poor stuff with his large hands. His eyes remained on his wife, he couldn't.
He tried to, but he couldn't take his eyes off her.
Orla sighed. He had no idea what those eyes were doing to her.
"I am sorry, Orla."
He veered closer to her when she was shifting away from him. He was careful not to hurt her again.
He was prudent of even the littlest things, getting in her bad books came atop the list of all the things he planned to avoid in life.
"Callan,"
"I know sorry isn't enough for the pain I caused you, but if there is something you want me to do for this pain to wane off. Mention it, I won't hesitate."
She smiled, gliding her fingers on his. "What do you think you can do?"
"I usually have answers to every question, but my brain goes blank when it comes to you."
"I missed you," she looked at him, her eyes holding so much affection.
That was all she wanted to tell him since they made up two days ago, but Callan had been shying away from her.
He had even gotten nervous around her, he didn't do things unless she wanted them. She didn't like that, the Callan she knew would take pleasure in teasing her and she loved every bit of it.
She didn't want him to be reluctant around her. She wanted back her real Callan, the man she fell in love with.
She had never seen him so careful as he was now. It was sweet that he didn't want to hurt her anymore, and he was still trying to set things straight, but this new side of him bothered Orla.
It was awkward. It felt like she lost her husband. She wanted them to talk about everything they had missed together.
She wanted to tell him about her job, she wanted them to talk about their baby. She wanted everything, but Callan had barely sprung up a conversation about them or her personally.
He would stare at her longer than he normally would, but even as he looked at her, he didn't say any word unless she spoke first.
She understood he was taking his time, giving her time to heal and recover from the pain but she didn't like that.
"Callan, those women, are you still in touch with them?" She asked, biting her lips.
"Orla, I never kept in touch with them." His tone was sharp, "I am not in touch with them and I will never be."
She felt it. The remorse in his subtle tone. Like he shouldn't have attempted to hurt her, like he didn't want her to recall any of those things that happened.
"Are we going to be fine?"
She needed his assurance. That was all she needed now.
Callan tossed the cushion aside and sealed the gap between them as they balanced on the couch, gazing into each other's eyes.
He took her hands, his head lowered to place a kiss on her little hand.
"Nothing will come between us anymore, Orla."
He sounded firm and she believed him.
"I was stupid and unwise, but I deeply regret every of my actions. Orla, you only will be my woman until death. I will take care of you and our family as long as I live. You will be my only priority, or maybe I will get smaller ones when you have our babies. But I promise that you will always come first."
"Oh, Callan," she placed his hand over her tummy. "Our baby is here."
"Yes. I have never yearned for perfection like I do now. There are two reasons I want to be perfect. Do you want to know them?"
"Yes, I do." Her smile was big.
She never knew that even her favourite thing to do in the world was to talk to Callan. She loved this man.
"Why do you want to be perfect?"
He leaned closer to kiss her lips unexpectedly and her heart raced.
She bided on the couch as he worked his hands around her hair. It had been so long she felt beautiful again.
His fingers mooched around the nape of her neck, tickling her. "You, Orla. And our babies." He gently trailed his hand down to her thighs, sliding in between her legs as she gasped for air. "I want to be a perfect husband to you and the perfect father to our children."
"Callan, I…" She moaned softly when he teased her.
A thought struck his mind and he immediately let go of her. "I shouldn't be doing this to you."
"Why?" She bit her lips again. He already set her in the mood and he wanted to turn away?
"Let's settle the scores on the ground. Let's talk about us and the baby."
Though her legs were dampened and she could swear that her panties were already dripping with fluid, she acted like she wasn't affected by just lazily staring at him, nodding her head in agreement to his words.
"When did you find out you were pregnant?" He asked, his unwavering focus on her.
He watched as she squinted her eyes, trying to recall all that happened when she was all alone by herself.
"A month ago," she said casually.
"How did you feel when you found out? What thoughts crossed your mind? To terminate the pregnancy and never let me know about it?"
"I don't know. It was unexpected and I was just indifferent about it. We weren't talking, I was planning on divorce and I found out your child is in my womb. It was so crazy I didn't have the time to make my decisions, but I know I wouldn't want to hurt our baby."
He was still looking at her with those leery eyes.
"You didn't want a baby before now. Do you want one now? I have been worried this might be too much for you. You told me you weren't ready to mother a child."
"You knew this, yet, you spilled your seed inside of me." Her tone was funny and Callan got that she was joking.
"We made love," he answered sarcastically.
"Without protection. Didn’t you expect that we would make babies?" She threw at him and he smiled.
Maybe they were back to how they used to be, he thought for a moment.
"You didn't want the protection."
He was right.
She laughed. "Now we have a baby inside of me."
"Will you be fine with that?"
"Yes, I have thought about this and I want to keep this baby. Babies are cute, I want them."
"If you want to do this, fine. I promise that I will be by your side all through and even after the journey. The pregnancy is ours. We are pregnant, Orla. I will never leave your side, and I will take care of you just as much as I should."
She smiled, trusting his words. He'd do just as he'd said.
"Will you agree to transfer the baby into your tummy when my back hurts?"
"I would if I could. There is nothing I would not do for you, Orla."
"But why?" She struggled to stand on her feet.
Callan quickly helped her up, wondering where she was heading when they were still talking.
"Because….you are my wife,"
"And?"
"And?" For a second, he was agitated. "You are the mother of my unborn children. I have to take care of you."
"And?" She repeated teasingly.
"You have to take your antenatal classes seriously. The baby has to be healthy." He pulled her closer, kissing her tummy.
The bump was not yet obvious and Callan couldn't wait as he rubbed his hand all over her tiny frame.
"Thank you so much for doing this for us, Orla. I wouldn't want any other woman to have my kids, but you. I feel so complete and I am sorry I ever hurt you. I…"
She propped her fingers on his lips. "Callan, you're forgiven."
"That's all I needed to hear from you. I promise that…"
"Hey,"
Her arms curled up on his neck, staring straight into his eyes.
"Thank you for not giving up on me."
"Do you want to hear about my work? It's been just two months, but I think I would be retained if I smash this project. I have been thinking of how to get inspiration to get through the park design, but nothing seems to be forthcoming. I can't think, my senses aren't functioning."
She pouted her lips in a very sexy way and Callan kissed them. She groaned, that was not her intention.
"You need to rejuvenate your thinking faculty," Callan suggested.
"I agree but how do I do that?"
"Hmm," he looked around the living room, then back to her. "I have the answer in the bedroom, do you want to see it?"
"Callan, what answer?" She got the hint.
"Good sex will do."
Those were his last words before she smashed her lips to his, idly kissing him until he responded with an aggressive kiss.
He grabbed her roughly and she knew she wanted this too. "I want to see, Callan. Show me."
