My head rests against Alec's chest. Together, we gaze at the moon, its silvery glow casting an enchanting spell over the night. As Alec's fingers delicately trace patterns on my arm, we revel in the quiet beauty of the moment, savouring the serenity surrounding us. Alec's face lights up with a mischievous grin as he rises to his feet.
Curious, I ask, 'What is it?'
With a tender smile, he replies, 'There's something I've always wanted to do with you.' Extending a hand, he assists me in standing, his touch warm and reassuring, then places my dress over my head. 'I want to dance with you under the stars right now,' he says with a warm smile. His eyes sparkle with an undeniable fondness, his gaze revealing the love he holds for me.
I nod, returning his smile. His hand gently encircles my waist, the other holding my other hand up and following his lead. We begin to waltz.
The night air is filled with an undeniable magic as we move gracefully, twirling beneath the shimmering night sky. Overwhelmed by a rush of joy, I can't help but smile shyly at Alec.
'I love you, Nina,' he confesses, his words so sweet in the quiet of the night.
'I love you too, Alec,' I whisper in response.
The world fades away, leaving only Alec and me in our private dance beneath the stars. Alec's embrace tightens, and the waltz intensifies until laughter bubbles forth, the shared joy leaving us breathless.
The first light of dawn begins to paint the horizon. I smile up at Alec. 'We should head back to the packhouse. I know you're not fond of daylight.'
Alec, still caught in the euphoria of the moment, grins and responds, 'As long as I'm with you, the day isn't so horrible.' The sincerity in his words warms my heart, and together, hand in hand, we make our way back to the packhouse, leaving the night of making love and dancing behind as a cherished memory.
Hand in hand, Alec and I traverse down the hill, basking in the afterglow of our lovemaking and moonlit dance. However, my reverie is abruptly interrupted as I notice shadowy figures concealed amid the trees.
'Are they vampires?' I ask, bringing us to an abrupt stop.
Alec nods. 'Come and meet your Queen!' Alec's voice booms through the night, echoing into the forest.
In response, several dozen vampires materialize from the darkness, bowing before us in a display of unwavering loyalty. Each one, in turn, approaches to kiss Alec's hand and then mine.
'Where did they come from, and where will they stay?' I question, bewildered by the sudden appearance of them all.
'They have been hiding in many places, away from both humans and supernatural beings, patiently awaiting my return. Now that I'm back, they will stay close to me, most likely here in these forests. Thus enabling them to continue serving me as they did hundreds of years ago,' Alec replies.
In response, I turn to the assembled vampires, warmly welcoming Shadow Crest. They nod, smile, and bow in unison, their allegiance to Alec evident in every gesture.
As we proceed toward the packhouse, the distant sounds of helicopters and jets disrupt the peace. A sense of foreboding seizes me.
'They've discovered our location! But how?' Panic sets in.
Amid the chaos, my immediate instinct is to mind-link Magnus, who swiftly disseminates instructions to the entire pack, rallying them to prepare for the imminent defence of our beloved territory.
Explosions rock our once-tranquil town. Instinctively, I drop to the ground, hands covering my ears, seeking refuge beneath Alec's protective stance. A gut-wrenching sight unfolds as we turn to witness houses obliterated by a bomb. Overhead, planes continue their ominous presence, unleashing more destruction upon us, while soldiers, armed to the teeth, advance in overwhelming numbers.
As Alec and I approach the packhouse, Kadva emerges, his eyes ablaze with magical energy. Using his formidable abilities, he conjures fireballs to keep the soldiers at bay. Simultaneously, the witches, including myself, unleash our own array of spells in a desperate attempt to thwart the advancing army.
'Repeliate!' I shout, sending a dozen troops crashing into a brick wall. May joins in with her magic. 'Tremendous Nebulous!' A dense, hazy fog descends, obscuring the soldiers' vision and granting us a temporary advantage.
‘Tumultuous Volley!’ I declare, conjuring a massive cloud from which lightning strikes repetitively, disorienting and incapacitating our assailants.
Alec, in turn, summons his vampire followers, who materialize with a screech, swiftly engaging the soldiers in battle. Yet, their sheer numbers prove overwhelming, and more bombs rain down, reducing our village to rubble. Dust and debris scatter in every direction, revealing the heartbreaking aftermath of the destruction, with many fallen pack members amidst the devastation.
A tank rumbles menacingly toward us, its colossal form a harbinger of impending doom. Without hesitation, I summon the flames, 'Inferno Flamo!' A torrent of fire erupts from my wand, crashing into the tank with relentless fury. The metal monstrosity is quickly ensnared in the voracious embrace of the inferno. Its cold exterior now ablaze.
The intense strain of wielding such immense power takes its toll on my body. A wave of weariness washes over me. Desperation sets in, prompting me to reach out to mind-link Reaper. 'I need your magic. Where are you?'
'I'm evading gunfire and explosives,' his response echoes in my mind. 'Incoming for landing,' he adds, crashing onto my shoulder with a forceful impact. His eyes blaze with a brilliant white light, and the swirling black mist that envelops him gracefully flows into my essence, rejuvenating and empowering me.
With newfound vigour, I raise my wand once more, this time commanding the element of water. 'Aqua Bedew!' I shout. A colossal tornado of water materializes, tearing through the ranks of soldiers with relentless force. As it reaches its climax, the water cascade collapses into a river, sweeping away numerous soldiers into the adjacent fields. The army now faces the relentless onslaught of the elements, their ranks decimated by fire and water.
Shadow Crest is now a chaotic vision of destruction and death. Amidst the turmoil, a dozen soldiers stealthily approach Magnus, engaged in a fierce confrontation against five adversaries. 'Repeliate!' I command, and with a forceful surge of power, the soldiers are sent airborne, their forms tumbling helplessly through the air.
