Kacie
I didn’t really have a close relationship when I first came to the pack. He was always my mate’s friend and Beta. My focus was on Viktor most of the time as it should have been. I didn’t start spending much time with Jake until I started training. We spent more time together after that and then when Viktor left and he had to watch me, well the rest was history.
I’ve always seen him as a protector and someone who always joked around. He flirted with me a lot and I couldn’t ever take him seriously. I was standing in between his legs but we were standing eye to eye. A rough warm hand slid up my thigh and around my waist. I wasn’t ready for the vulnerability that stared back at me.
“This is all still so new and I think we’re going to have some kinks to work through,” I started, “we don’t have any boundaries set yet so we’re going to have to figure that out. We’re also going to argue like any other relationship. So, it’s going to get bumpy but I think I speak for Viktor when I say we want you here.”
I turn so my back is against Jake’s thigh and look at Viktor. He’s still sitting at the table, he’s watching our exchange with a calmness others wouldn’t understand. Jake turns his head and follows my gaze. I can actually hear him gulp as we stare at our alpha. Viktor looks back at us and his eyes travel between the two of us.
“Kacie is right. I didn’t think I needed to say it but I’ll say it for the two of you. I want you here as much as I want Kacie here. I don’t know how this is going to work but it’s going to. The two of you know me more than anyone else in this world. And you should know when I want something, I don’t stop until I have it. I sit here watching the two of you and I should want to kill you for being so close to my mate but I don’t. When I look at you two… all I see is mine,” Viktor said. His voice is husky and low, his chest rises and falls slowly and deeply.
Jake
Mine. That word. He’s using that word to describe Kacie and me. I’ll admit when we first found her at Alpha Ken’s my heart broke. When he claimed her as his mate at the dinner table, I was too stunned to speak. All I wanted was for him to find his other half, I’d done everything in me to find her for him.
When he linked me to take her to the car, my body moved on its own and I found myself by Kacie’s side. “I’ll be taking you to the car. If you’ll allow me,” I said. I remember offering her my hand and she hesitated for only a second before reaching out and grabbing onto me.
My jealousy disappeared and I wanted to protect her. I knew she was his but she was also my future Luna. I knew that the things she had gone through at Alpha Ken’s pack couldn’t have been good. With her dangling between the two alpha’s, it could have started a war.
There’s no way I could have known the little girl I helped get into the car could have been the glue to hold us together. I couldn’t have known that she was what would bring Viktor and I together. She was… she was everything. This morning I was afraid I’d lose her and him. I was afraid I’d lose my place in my pack and be kicked out. Here I was feeling the happiest and most scared I’ve ever been in my entire life.
“Why are you scared?” Troy asked.
“There are so many reasons,” I said.
I still had my doubts that this could work. The three of us working out wasn’t something that I saw happening but fuck if I wanted it to. I wanted to belong with them, I wanted them to be mine and I wanted to be theirs. I wanted it so much, it scared me. Was there anything I could do?
I was afraid they would throw me away when they got tired of me. I was scared one day one of them would get upset and no longer see me as a part of the relationship. I feared I wouldn’t be welcome anymore. My chest hurt when I thought of the look in their eyes changing from love to disgust.
“But…,” Troy murmured.
“But what?” I asked.
“But are you going to let your fear hold you back?” He asked.
“What?”
“Are you going to let your fear of what might happen, stop you from seeing for yourself if it could be something… amazing?” He asked.
I gulped.
I’d be a fucking idiot if I stepped away from this. Shit, I don’t think I can step away at this point. I got a taste of happiness today and I wouldn’t let go. Viktor would have to change his mind in order for me to let go. Pain stabbed me in the chest as the thought of him telling me he didn’t want me anymore flickered through my mind.
“Come here,” I said aloud. Kacie sat against my thigh as we stared at Viktor. A smile slowly pulled at the corner of his lips.
“Is that an order, Beta?” Viktor asked.
I sighed. I don’t care. I don’t care if they regret this one day. I don’t care if he decides he doesn’t want me one day. I don’t care if the idea of them throwing me away just might kill me. I don’t care that my mind is screaming to run the other way. My heart says to stay. My heart tells me it’ll be worth it. My heart tells me they’re worth the pain.
“Yes, Alpha,” I said. “Now come over here and love me.”
