“Why is this opened?” The bald, heavily armed man asked one of his companions as they walked hesitantly into the living area.

“Place looks deserted.” Another man who was equally armed responded. “But we know there’s someone here because the alarm got turned off.”

“Let’s work quickly and get out of here before the neighbours raise an alarm.” A fifth man, obviously a superior to the others, said as he entered behind the four armed men. “Remember, we’re not to kill the soldier if we can help it. The boss says he wants to look in his eyes as he breathes his last. But don’t kill the doctor if you find him. He’s to be taken as a hostage.”

“Cool.” One of the men responded as they moved further into the house. “I hear the guy is a lunatic so we have to…”

“We’re thirty men.” The superior snorted. “He’s just one person. What can he possibly…” His words trailed off when a black hunk in black jeans, trainers, and weapons in holsters that virtually covered his entire upper body stepped out and stood before them.

“Hello, boys.” Bradley drawled almost sexily.

“Well, well, well. What do we have here?” The cocky superior drawled. “The shit-stirrer who…” The superior’s cocky attitude and words ended in a horrible gurgle sound as his hands went to the side of his throat where a nasty gunshot wound was gushing out blood.

Even before the other four could react, their lifeless bodies were on the floor. So…thirty men huh, Bradley thought. Five down, twenty-five to go. Lt. Bradley Jackson was in his element. He was like a robot, completely detached from his human sensibilities…a total beast. Bradley looked up when about seven more men entered the room, guns literary blazing. But they were no match for Bradley. Before they could say, Jack, five were joining their ancestors in the afterlife. The other two attacked Bradley as five more appeared at the door. Bradley was quick and fierce.

He dodged punches at the right time and maneuvered his assailant’s bodies such that when the four at the door opened fire, their colleagues caught their bullets. And using one of the dead mercenaries as a shield, he fired at the four at the door, killing three. Bradley looked at the bodies and wished he had the luxury of maiming rather than killing. Rogues though the mercenaries were, sometimes circumstances made people resort to silly ways of life just for a quick buck. But it would be very stupid to leave someone alive only to get killed by that person whilst concentrating on another. He also hated that he was messing up Jean’s floors. The plush rugs would obviously have to be changed. And all those bullets and damage…

Bradley noticed another set of mercenaries just outside the door. It was obvious they were reluctant to come in. That was the disadvantage of using hired guns. They were not loyal. They would cut and run if they realize they could lose their lives. Bradley heard one guy telling the others that it looked as if there was more than one soldier inside the house. Bradley had to stifle his laughter. Maybe they would stop entering the house, he thought hopefully. But of course, there was always someone who would want to either show off or be a hero.

“Oh, shit…” Bradley muttered when he saw one of the guys reach into his thigh holster for what looked like a grenade.

Bradley drew a knife from his ankle holster and threw it with absolute precision, at the man, pinning his wrist to his thigh. His bloodcurdling scream was so disturbing Bradley shot him in the head to put him out of his misery.

“What the fuck!” His colleague who got his face splashed with the grenade guy’s brains gave the surprised gasp as the others fell back.

And that was when Bradley saw General Grupert. He was flanked by two men we were obviously military. All three stared at Bradley with so much anger and hate. Bradley couldn’t resist…he gave them a mock salute and a cheeky grin. He could have shot the general from where he stood but he didn’t want to kill the man. Death would be too merciful an end for a dirty official such as Grupert. The right thing was for Grupert to be taken in and tried for his crimes. Bradley knew that the man was there to kill him but that didn’t bother him as much as the plan he’d overheard the now dead mercenaries discuss earlier, about Grupert’s intention to use his Jean as a hostage. Bradley couldn’t allow that because Jean was so annoying, he wouldn’t last as a hostage for more than five minutes. The General would shoot him just to shut him up.

Bradley knew he had to kill the evil man first. Where the hell were the Arrowheads when…Bradley cocked his head slightly to the side and listened with a satisfied grin. The sudden screams of men outside signaled the presence of the Arrowheads. Bradley didn’t miss the general’s signal to the mercenaries around him to go and face a new threat. They turned and ran off with their guns cocked, leaving the general and the two military men. The general let out a piercing whistle with a shake of his head as he looked down at the bodies of the dead mercenaries.

“I see you decided not to maim this time around.” General Grupert called out from outside the sliding door.

“What’s the fun in that?” Bradley shrugged.

“Your neighbours must have called the police.” The man grinned. “I don’t think they can help you though. You are obviously a great shot.” He nodded with a smirk. “But those policemen will be no match for my bloodthirsty hounds.”

Bradley couldn’t suppress his chuckle at the general’s words. The man actually thought that those men fighting his…hounds were policemen? Bradley grinned.

“You think that’s the police out there?” Bradley almost felt sorry for the general when he saw the quick flash of uncertainty and fear in his eyes. But then the man recovered quickly enough and laughed.

“Of course, it’s the police. You didn’t know we were here. We took care of the twats who were guarding the house so…” He shrugged.

“Oh, you mean the three twats.” Bradley smiled when Grupert gave a cocky grin. “Well, you missed the fourth twat so...” Bradley said so sweetly. “He saw ya. Sorry.”

“Fuck.” One of the soldiers flanking the general muttered. “Let’s just kill him now and leave, General.” The soldier said urgently with growing agitation. “His team is…”

“Shut up.” The general snapped at the soldier. There was a sudden calmness and resignation on his face that Bradley didn’t understand. “I’m trying to have a serious conversation here. You will know when to step in soon.” He added undertone before turning his eyes back onto Bradley. “Now, where was I?”

“You, in denial.” Bradley drawled.

“Hmm…yes.” The general just stared at Bradley, the look on his face a cross between tension and confusion.

General Grupert had everything planned…or so he’d thought. This was supposed to be a quick operation. He was to come to the doctor’s house, kill Jackson, take the doctor as a hostage since he was the son of a prominent man, dispatch the hired help and then meet his third ally…the police inspector, at an arranged venue with his other two allies. It was supposed to have been a quiet, surprise attack on just one individual...Jackson. The doctor would have been held until they were sure they were not going to face any problems.

But somehow, it had turned into a circus, thanks to the so-called fourth guard they hadn’t seen. The murderous SEAL had obviously been expecting them. And from the screams coming from around the compound, Grupert knew Jackson was right...the men dealing with his mercenaries were definitely not the police. Well, he didn’t plan on getting arrested, Grupert thought. He’d rather die. He looked up at the young soldier who had caused him everything.

“Looks like I’m going to be caught after all, Lt. Jackson.” General Grupert said quietly. “And all thanks to you. Why couldn’t you just mind your own damn business? Huh? All the years that I’ve worked for this country… All the respect I’ve earned for myself… And how am I going to be remembered? As a criminal, murderer, and a bad citizen. Well, what’s one more crime? Your death.”
