From Luna to Alpha

Chapter 30

Two months changed everything.

The pack territory is fully restored. Every burned building rebuilt. Every damaged structure repaired. The scars of Varek's rule are fading.

Spring arrives with warmth and new growth. Perfect timing.

The clearing where Sorin first made me Alpha is transformed. Spring flowers decorate every surface. Blues and whites and soft yellows. Ceremonial torches burn around the perimeter, casting golden light as the sun begins to set.

The entire pack assembles. My loyalists who fought beside me.

I stand at the center of the clearing. The same spot where everything changed. Where my life splintered into before and after.

Riven stands before me. The mate bond hums between us, golden and alive. Almost visible in the way we look at each other.

Hardik steps forward as an elder witness. His voice carries across the assembled wolves.

"We gather today to witness the mating ceremony," he announces. "Alpha Arida will name her Luna and complete the bond before the pack."

The crowd falls silent. Reverent. Waiting.

I take Riven's hands in mine.

"Riven," I begin. "You saved my life when you had every reason to walk away. You challenged me when I needed to be challenged. You showed me that strength without compassion is just violence, and that true leadership means valuing the wolves who follow you."

His eyes never leave mine. The mate bond pulses with his love.

"You've been an outcast, alone and packless, since you were five years old," I continue. "Today, I give you a home beside me. As my mate."

A female wolf approaches with a carved wooden tray. The ceremonial ink rests in small bowls. Traditional markings that will bind us publicly as mates and leaders.

"I name you Luna of Obsidian Pines," I declare. "You've earned this place through your loyalty, your courage, and your heart." I pause. "Will you accept this bond? Will you lead beside me as my mate and partner?"

Riven's smile is radiant. Beautiful. Everything.

"I accept," he says. His voice is steady. Sure. "I claim you as my Alpha and my mate."

We turn to face each other fully. I lift his wrist, cradling it gently in my hands. The ceremonial ink is cool against my fingers as I dip the brush.

The first mark is a line. Straight. Strong. Representing our bond. Unbreakable.

The second curves around his wrist. The pattern of leadership. The mark of Luna.

The third intertwines with the others. My mark. My claim.

I work carefully. Each stroke deliberate. Each pattern meaningful. The ink is permanent. A promise written on his skin for all to see.

When I finish, Riven takes my wrist. His touch is gentle. Reverent.

He marks me in return. The same patterns. The same promises. His strokes are confident. Each line is perfect.

The patterns intertwine. Two halves of one design. Separate but connected. Individual but unified.

As he completes the final mark, we press our wrists together. The ink is still wet. Still warm.

"By the old laws and the new, I declare you mated," Hardik announces. His voice carries joy. "Alpha and Luna, bound before witnesses, bound by choice, bound by love."

The pack erupts. Howls split the air. Wolves cheer and celebrate. The sound washes over us like a wave.

But I only see Riven.

He pulls me close and kisses.

When we break apart, the celebration is in full swing. Food appears on tables. Music starts. Wolves dance and laugh and embrace.

I let Riven pull me to the high table where Hardik, Kira, and Thorne wait. We sit together. My pack. My family.

"To Alpha Arida and Luna Riven," Hardik toasts. "May your rule be long and your love be eternal."

"To Alpha and Luna," the pack echoes.

I drink. Smile. Accept congratulations from visiting Alphas who approach our table.

But my hand rests on my stomach. On the secret I've been holding close for weeks.

As the celebration reaches its peak, I stand. The pack gradually quiets. All eyes turn to me.

Riven looks up at me with questions in his eyes. I smile at him. Take his hand.

"I have something I've been waiting to share until this moment," I say. My voice carries across the clearing.

I place Riven's hand on my stomach. Press it there. Let him feel what I've been feeling.

"I'm pregnant."

For one heartbeat, silence. Complete stillness.

Then understanding dawns on Riven's face. His eyes go wide. His hand presses more firmly against my stomach.

"You're pregnant," he breathes.

"I'm pregnant," I confirm.

The pack erupts again. Louder this time. Wolves howl their joy. New leadership and new life. The future made tangible. Real.

Riven stands. Pulls me into his arms. Kisses me again. His hands cradle my face like I'm precious. Breakable.

"You're incredible," he says against my lips.

"We're incredible," I correct.

Wolves approach throughout the evening. Offering congratulations. Touching my stomach with gentle paws. Asking questions about due dates and names and preparations.

Kira hugs me tight. "I'm going to be an aunt," she says. Tears shine in her eyes.

"You're going to be a terrible influence," I tease.

"The best influence," she corrects.

Thorne offers a more reserved congratulations. But his smile is genuine. Warm.

Even Hardik seems younger tonight. Lighter. Like a weight has lifted from his shoulders.

As night falls fully, fires are lit around the clearing. The torches burn bright against the darkness. Music continues.

Riven and I sit together. His arm around my shoulders. My hand on my stomach.

"What are you thinking?" he asks quietly.

"That this is everything I never knew I wanted," I say. "A mate who sees me. A pack who chose me. A future growing inside me."

"Sorin would be proud," Riven says.

The name doesn't hurt the way it used to. The grief is still there. Will always be there. But it's gentler now. Softer.

"He would," I agree. "He wanted this for me. For the pack. He just didn't live to see it."

"But we're living it," Riven says. "For him. For us. For everyone who came before."

I lean into him. Let his warmth surround me. The mate bond hums contentedly between us.

Around us, the pack celebrates. My wolves. My family. My responsibility and my joy.

The story that began with loss and betrayal ends here. With hope. With new beginnings. With life continuing despite everything trying to stop it.

I'm Alpha Arida of Obsidian Pines. Mate to Riven. Mother to the life growing inside me.

And I'm exactly where I'm supposed to be.
